Headteacher's Message Issue 6 Headteacher’s Message GENEROSITY GENEROSITY And so another academic year draws to a close and the summer break awaits. The summer term has been full endeavour, achievement and celebration as the newsletter bears testament. The academy has much to TRUTH celebrate and is looking forward to embracing the future with positivity and energy as new and exciting challenges arise. I would like to draw particular attention to the inaugural LAAT awards ceremony held recently at which our two nominees, Jamie Smith (pupil) and Mrs June Howman (Staff) won awards. Congratulations to both on their awards and their roles as RESPECT ambassadors for the academy. On Tuesday 17th July I had the pleasure of attending the school concert. An ensemble of both students and staff put on an Andrew Lloyd Webber 70th Birthday tribute evening, showcasing talent and performance skills. FORGIVENESS My thanks and admiration to all concerned. JUSTICE JUSTICE May I take this opportunity to wish you all a safe, restful and peaceful summer break. We look forward to welcoming you back in September refreshed, invigorated and ready for the fray. JUSTICE JUSTICE My best wishes to you all. FORGIVENESS Mr Sprague Interim Head Teacher RESPECT TRUTH GENEROSITY GENEROSITY School concert cast and crew 2018 GENEROSITY RESPECT JUSTICE FORGIVENESS TRUTH Introducing our Head Boy and Head Girl for 2018-2019 Congratulations go to our newly appointed Head Boy Thomas Loveley and Head Girl Sarah Plowman. I am sure both students will be a credit to William Lovell Academy in their future roles. Sarah and Thomas with Mrs Stafford Key stage 4 Leader Meet our go to team, we wish them well in all their future tasks. Well done to all involved! Heads of House & House Captains Coningsby Head of House: Mr Hopwood House Captains: Nathan Hall Libby Simpson-Tunnard Scampton Head of House: Mrs Wilman House Captains: Sophie Giles Nathan Houghton Waddington Head of House: Mr Wise House Captains: Adam Mackinder Katherine Tomes Year 7 are the District Rounders Champions !!!! Huge congratulations go to the William Lovell Year 7 girls rounders team who have won the Boston District Rounders Tournament held at Boston High School on Tuesday 12th June 2018. Excellent matches were played against Middlecott, Haven High, Boston High School, Thomas Cowley and Giles Academy and the William Lovell team were the overall champions. Throughout the event, our girls showed a wide range of excellent rounders skills in both batting and fielding. There were some excellent whole rounders scored from long hits and a good number of excellent catches to get batters from the other team out. The team also demonstrated an outstanding level of tactics, knowledge and game play and it was lovely to see them grow in confidence and excitement throughout the evening. We now go on to represent the Boston area in the next round match to be played at Spalding High School on finals night, Wednesday 4th July 2018 !! Keep your fingers crossed for us then and wish us luck !! Team players were Jasmin Johnson, Maya Thomas, Sydney Lovelace, Courtney Ellis, Megan Hall, Gerda Jucinskyte, Rebekah Kelly (Capt) and Daisy Bradshaw (Capt). Year 7 Rounders Team As Boston area champions, William Lovell Y7 Girls rounders team went further afield to play the next round match against Spalding High School. It was a beautiful sunny evening and the girls were a complete mix of excitement and nerves ready to play this next round. After loosing the coin toss, we were put into bat first to face 20 good bowls. Unfortunately we had a quick succession of our good batters put ‘out’ early and we struggled to hit the ball far enough to score whole or half rounders confidently. When Spadling came into bat they had a significant number of long hitters and regularly scored whole rounders putting our fielders under pressure. Half time score William Lovell 2 ½ Spalding 12 ½ . During the second innings we produced some improved hitting and added another 5 rounders to our total, already not enough to beat Spalding before their second batting innings. The final score was William Lovell 7 ½ Spalding 24 rounders. Congratulations to Spalding High School who go onto the next round, William Lovell remain Boston district winners and we will return again next year with even more confidence due to this fantastic experience. I would like congratulate all the Y7 girls involved with the addition of Evelynn Lawson. Thank you to Mr Hopwood for giving up his time to come with us to the fixture for extra support. September brings a return to the netball season !!!! Thank you and well done, I am very proud. Mrs Cooper Year 10 Rounders Team O n your marks… Get set... Fifteen primary schools from the Boston area took part in the two-day event. Tri-Golf is a FUN, energetic, version of golf, which young children in primary schools can enjoy with their classmates as they hit the target with their first golf shots. Tri-Golf is genuinely inclusive as it suits all abilities; every child can succeed in the games and with the flexibility between individual play and team interaction, it engages well with youngsters who might not want to play a traditional team sport. Tri-Golf promotes ‘Skills for Life’ attributes including co-operation, good sportsmanship and concentration and is designed to be used across curriculum learning. Students involved; Amy Baldry, Kian Baxter, Sam Carter, Holly Coupland, Lily Dixon, Joe Haime, Nathan Hall, Mason Harris, Jayden Houghton, Nathan Houghton, Shaniece Johnson, Emily Nixon, Abi West, Tom Loveley. Prom Night Celebrations Friday 66h July 2018! All the glitz and glamour of the Hollywood Oscar Ceremony could not outshine William Lovell’s year 11 students as they arrived, in film star style, at their very own end of school prom! A variety of transport came down the drive, a New Holland Tractor, Ford Mustang, VW Beetle Hotrod, Aston Martin DB7, Porche 911 and Lamourghini to set down our students in the warm evening sunshine to be greeted by proud family, friends and staff. Prom Night Celebrations 6h July 2018! Glistening sequins and wide smiles were the order of the evening as everyone took their turn to be photographed before heading into the main event. Black and gold balloons and bow adorned chairs added to the glamour of the evening. Music played and food was served. Selfies galore were taken as precious memories were shared and saved. It was wonderful to see friends gather for the official group photographs. Delighted staff were invited to have their photographs taken with students – all as proud as punch! Later in the evening, everyone voted for their Prom King and Prom Queen. Suitably crowned, Chloe Halstead and George Andrew took their bow on the dance floor. Well done! As usual, with events such as these, preparation and planning began last year.

Reference: No Summary: In March 2016 the Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee (CYPSC) published a report into its wide-ranging investigation into the Council's grammar school transport policy. The 2016 report is attached as Appendix A. One outcome of the report was that the Council's Executive opted to leave the policy as it was but asked for a review and update after 2 years. This report is that updated review. Actions Required: The Committee is invited to 1. note and comment on the outcomes of the 2018 review; 2. support the continuation of the existing policy in relation to grammar school transport. 1. • The Business of School Improvement
the business of school improvement ACHIEVEMENT LANDSCAPE PICTURES: KEY STAGE 4 2018 At the end of each academic year, for the past eleven years, ECARDA has used the published national datasets to produce pictures of school achievement. The attached selection shows the achievement of schools in Lincolnshire and the Humber sub- region, including Doncaster, at the end of Key Stage 4. On one set of graphs, the horizontal axis refers to “attainment” and, since 2016, uses the published attainment 8 measure. On the other set, the horizontal axis refers to KS4 FSM. The vertical axis refers to “progress” and, since 2016, uses the published progress 8 measure. For 2018, we have used the adjusted progress 8 measure, which mitigates extreme effects. The labels in each of the chart quadrants are no more than indicators: Higher-than-average attainment with higher-than-average progress is indicated as accomplishing; Lower-than- average-attainment with higher-than-average progress is indicated as striving; Lower-than- average-progress with higher-than-average attainment is indicated as cruising; Lower-than- average attainment with lower-than-average progress is indicated as struggling. Those clustered around the intersection of the axes may be described as “in line with national averages”. Discounting those clustered around the centre/average, the proportion of schools or pupils which fall into each of these categories makes for an interesting comparison across local authority areas. See the ECARDA website for a presentation of this type of analysis in 2016. The final three pictures show the achievement landscape of all local authorities across the country with differing labelling to highlight differing characteristics.

University of Kent's Institution Contextual Flag All schools on this list meet the requirements for the University of Kent's Institution Contextual Flag. The Institution Contextual Flag is given to all institutions whose data indicates that they perform in the bottom 40% nationally for KS5 results reported by the Department for Education each year. We use the average point school per entry and where data is not available, we use KS4 result, if available. In order to make this more reliable we look at data over a three year period to see if they are low performing for at least two out of the last three years. In cases where an Institution is flagged, but subsequently closes, the flag will be retained and the institution will continue to appear on the list. We use the Institution supplied by you in your UCAS application (the UCAS centre or Last Institution) to identify whether it has a Contextual Flag. Please note: independent schools are not included, neither do we have data from government agencies in Scotland and Northern Ireland and therefore these cannot be given a flag. Similarly, there may be schools or colleges which have recently changed name, status or have merged and this has resulted in no data being reported by the Department of Education , in these instances we will not be able to assess the Institution for a Contextual Flag.
