Luxembourg will be keen to put in a better performance against Ukraine than they managed the last time the teams met, eight years ago, as they go head to head again in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group C. Match background • The sides' only previous encounter was a 3-0 away win for Ukraine on 8 June 2006, with Oleh Blokhin's side warming up for the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals. Second-half goals from Andriy Voronin and – both half-time substitutes – and Maxym Kalinichenko settled the game at Stade Josy Barthel. • Ukraine have won both of their UEFA age-group meetings with Luxembourg, recording a 6-0 victory in the most recent encounter, a UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifier on 4 November 2012. • Ukraine goalkeeper Dmytro Bezotosniy celebrates his 31st birthday on the day of the Luxembourg game; team- mate Roman Zozulya turns 25 two days later.

5 Luxembourg - Ukraine Saturday 15 November 2014 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Match press kit Stade Josy Barthel, Luxembourg Head coach Luc Holtz Date of birth: 14 June 1969 Nationality: Luxembourger Playing career: Red Boys Differdange, FC Avenir Beggen, FC Etzella Ettelbruck Coaching career: FC Etzella Ettelbruck, Luxembourg Under-21s, Luxembourg • Holtz started his career with Red Boys Differdange, a club which today is part of successful outfit FC Differdange 03. • A creative playmaker with a keen eye for goal, Holtz moved to Avenir Beggen in 1992 where he went on to win the domestic double in 1993 and 1994. He was chosen as Luxembourg's footballer of the year in 1993. • Played until 2008 when, aged 38, he finished his career at Etzella having gone there from Beggen in 1999 to take over as player-coach. • Led Etzella to promotion to the top flight in 1999, his first season in charge. Lifted the cup two years later but was relegated in 2002, only to bounce back immediately. Proceeded to reach the cup final in 2003 and 2004, although both ended in defeat. • Having earned 55 caps for Luxembourg, he accepted an offer to coach the U21 national side in 2008. He was then handed the reins of the senior team following the resignation of Guy Hellers in August 2010. Mykhailo Fomenko Date of birth: 19 September 1948 Nationality: Ukrainian Playing career: FC Spartak , FC Zorya Luhansk, FC Dynamo Kyiv Coaching career: FC Frunzenets Sumy, FC Desna , FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih, FC Guria Lanchkhuti, FC Rashid Baghdad, FC Avtomobilist Sumy, FC Dynamo Kyiv, FC Veres Rivne, Guinea, FC CSKA Kyiv, FC Metalist (three times), SC Tavriya , FC Salyut Belgorod, Ukraine • An integral part of the famous Dynamo Kyiv side of the 1970s, the defender lifted three Soviet league titles, three domestic cups, the 1975 European Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Super Cup, as the Ukrainian outfit established themselves as a major European force. • Earned 24 caps for the USSR between 1972 and 1976, and was a key member of the team during qualifying for the 1976 UEFA European Championship, which were defeated by eventual winners Czechoslovakia at the quarter-final stage. • First moved into coaching in 1979 with Frunzenets Sumy, working in Ukraine, Georgia and Iraq, before taking over at old club Dynamo Kyiv in 1993 and helping them to a Ukrainian league and cup double during his only season in charge. • Enjoyed a first taste of international management when taking the helm of Guinea, but swiftly returned to the domestic game. Had three separate stints at Metalist Kharkiv between 1996 and 2005, and also took CSKA Kyiv to the final, only to fall to FC Shakhtar Donetsk. • Spells at Tavriya Simferopol and Russian side Salyut Belgorod followed, before he was called upon by the national federation to take permanent control of Ukraine after Oleh Blokhin stepped down following UEFA EURO 2012. Helped his country to a play-off place in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying; however, despite a 2-0 first-leg success against France, Ukraine fell 3-2 on aggregate to miss out on Brazil.

EURO finals: The UEFA European Championship was a four-team event in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 (when the preliminary round and quarter-finals were considered part of qualifying).

From 1980 it was expanded to an eight-team finals and remained in that format in 1984, 1988 and 1992 until 1996, when the 16-team format was adopted. UEFA EURO 2016 was the first tournament to be played as a 24-team finals.

Records of inactive countries A number of UEFA associations have been affected by dissolution or splits of member associations. For statistical purposes, the records of these inactive countries have been allocated elsewhere: therefore, all Soviet Union matches are awarded to Russia; all West Germany – but not East Germany – matches are awarded to Germany; all Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro matches are awarded to Serbia; all Czechoslovakia matches are allocated to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Abandoned/forfeited matches For statisical purposes, when a match has been started and then abandoned but later forfeited, the result on the pitch at the time of abandonment is counted. Matches that never started and were either cancelled or forfeited are not included in the overall statistics.
