He was chosen as Luxembourg's footballer of the year in 1993. • Played until 2008 when, aged 38, he finished his career at Etzella having gone there from Beggen in 1999 to take over as player-coach. • Led Etzella to promotion to the top flight in 1999, his first season in charge. Lifted the cup two years later but was relegated in 2002, only to bounce back immediately. Proceeded to reach the cup final in 2003 and 2004, although both ended in defeat. • Having earned 55 caps for Luxembourg, he accepted an offer to coach the U21 national side in 2008. He was then handed the reins of the senior team following the resignation of Guy Hellers in August 2010. Had three separate stints at Metalist Kharkiv between 1996 and 2005, and also took CSKA Kyiv to the Ukrainian Cup final, only to fall to FC Shakhtar Donetsk. • Spells at Tavriya Simferopol and Russian side Salyut Belgorod followed, before he was called upon by the national federation to take permanent control of Ukraine after Oleh Blokhin stepped down following UEFA EURO 2012. Helped his country to a play-off place in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying; however, despite a 2-0 first-leg success against France, Ukraine fell 3-2 on aggregate to miss out on Brazil. 6 Luxembourg - Ukraine Saturday 15 November 2014 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Match press kit Stade Josy Barthel, Luxembourg Match officials Referee Kristinn Jakobsson (ISL) Assistant referees Gunnar Gunnarsson (ISL) , Johann Gudmundsson (ISL) Additional assistant referees Thoroddur Hjaltalin (ISL) , Thorvaldur Árnason (ISL) Fourth official Sigurdur Oli Thorleifsson (ISL) UEFA Delegate Michel Pralong (SUI) UEFA Referee observer Vitalijs Liholajs (LVA) Referee UEFA EURO Name Date of birth UEFA matches matches Kristinn Jakobsson 11/06/1969 7 93 Kristinn Jacobsson Referee since: 1990 First division: 1994 FIFA badge: 1997 Tournaments: 2006 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, 2001 UEFA European Under-16 Championship Finals 2006 UEFA European Under-19 Championship UEFA European Championship matches featuring the two countries involved in this match No such matches refereed Other matches involving teams from either of the two countries involved in this match Stage Date Competition Home Away Result Venue reached 26/11/2008 UCL GS FC Shakhtar Donetsk FC Basel 1893 5-0 Donetsk 27/08/2009 UEL PO FK Austria Wien FC Metalurh Donetsk 3-2 Vienna 25/08/2011 UEL PO Paris Saint-Germain FC Differdange 03 2-0 Paris 29/09/2011 UEL GS FC Vorskla Poltava Hannover 96 1-2 Poltava 22/08/2013 UEL PO JK Nõmme Kalju FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 1-3 Tallinn 7 Luxembourg - Ukraine Saturday 15 November 2014 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Match press kit Stade Josy Barthel, Luxembourg Competition facts 8 Luxembourg - Ukraine Saturday 15 November 2014 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Match press kit Stade Josy Barthel, Luxembourg Match-by-match lineups Luxembourg European Qualifiers Matchday 1 (08/09/2014) Luxembourg 1-1 Belarus Goals: 1-0 Gerson 42, 1-1 Dragun 78 Luxembourg: Joubert, Jänisch, Schnell, Philipps, Gerson, Da Mota (67 Laterza), Bensi, C.

  • A Turbulent Year for Ukraine Urbulent Was the Way to Describe 2009 for Ukraine, Which Plunged Into Financial Crisis
No. 3 THE UKRAINIAN WEEKLY SUNDAY, JANUARY 17, 2010 5 2009: THE YEAR IN REVIEW A turbulent year for Ukraine urbulent was the way to describe 2009 for Ukraine, which plunged into financial crisis. No other European country suffered as much as TUkraine, whose currency was devalued by more than 60 percent since its peak of 4.95 hrv per $1 in August 2008. In addition, the country’s industrial production fell by 31 percent in 2009. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko con- fronted the challenge of minimizing the crisis fallout, while at the same time campaigning for the 2010 presi- dential elections. Her critics attacked her for pursuing populist policies, such as increasing wages and hiring more government staff, when the state treasury was broke as early as the spring. Ms. Tymoshenko herself admitted that her gov- ernment would not have been able to make all its pay- ments without the help of three tranches of loans, worth approximately $10.6 billion, provided by the International Monetary Fund. Her critics believe that instead of borrowing money, Ms. Tymoshenko should have been introducing radical reforms to the Ukrainian economy, reducing government waste, eliminating out- dated Soviet-era benefits and trimming the bureaucracy. The year began with what is becoming an annual tra- Offi cial Website of Ukraine’s President dition in Ukraine – a natural gas conflict provoked by the government of Russian Federation Prime Minister President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko at the heated February 10 meeting of Vladimir Putin. • FC Shakhtar Annual Report Season 2009|10
www.shakhtar.com FC Shakhtar Annual Report season 2009|10 The season 2009/2010 turned out to be interesting and eventful. I think the fans will remember it for many years to come. WE HAVE CONSTRUCTED DONBASS ARENA – THE STADIUM IS OF A HIGH EUROPEAN STANDARD. IT MEETS THE AIMS AND AMBITIONS OF OUR CLUB. Donbass Arena was constructed for Shakhtar to play there and for the spectators to eagerly come and support their team. I think we managed to achieve this. Before the opening of Donbass Arena I had supposed that 30–35 thousand spectators were a real number for an ordinary game of the Ukrainian Championship. The first year of the stadium’s operation proved it. Shakhtar won the gold medals of 2009/2010 Ukrainian Championship. It is the fifth champion’s title of our team. This time Shakhtar starts the most prestigious European club tournament from the group stage. The Club’s management and fans are looking forward to the successful performance of our team. I’d also like to say that we are very grateful to the head coach, Mircea Lucescu, for the team he’s created. Over the last 6 years, we’ve won 4 championship titles, the UEFA Cup, and we are showing spectacular football of high European standard. Today we all believe in our team and this means for We BELIEVE in our team us a lot more than just words. with our whole HEARTS We believe in our team with our whole hearts and know, whoever our team plays against, we may expect victory.
