Von meinem Opa, der Zdarsky noch persönlich kannte, bekam ich immer wieder Geschichten über einen kleinen, von seinen vielen Verletzungen verkrümmten Mann, der trotzdem unglaubliche Energie ausstrahlte, und dieser Zeit erzählt. In den vier Jahren, in denen ich das Gymnasium Lilienfeld besuchte, fuhr ich täglich an seiner Gedenktafel vorbei und verbrachte auch einige Zeit mit Freunden und Freundinnen die Pausen im Zdarskypark. Der zweite Beweggrund war, dass ich aus einer skifahrbegeisterten Familie komme. Meine Großeltern waren sowohl im Sommer als auch im Winter in den Bergen unterwegs, im Winter auch mit Skiern.
