Hafıza mekânında ele alınacak konularla ilgili kapsamlı bir içerik çalışması yapıldı. Mekânın tasarımı ve hafıza mekânında uygulanacak ziyaretçi programlarının içeriğinin geliştirilmesiyle ilgili çalışmalar 2018 yılı boyunca sürdü. PROJE KOORDİNATÖRÜ Hrant Dink hafıza mekânı hazırlık sürecindeki PROJECT COORDINATOR faaliyetler ‘Yirmiüçbuçuk Hrant Dink Hafıza Mekânı NAYAT KARAKÖSE Hazırlık Süreci Raporu’ adıyla yayımlanarak, yaygınlaştırılmaya başlandı. Raporda yürütülen PROJE EKİBİ çalışmalar ve öne çıkan öneriler özetlenirken, ‘hafıza PROJECT TEAM mekânı’ kavramına genel bir bakış ve Avrupa, Güney NESLİHAN KOYUNCU Afrika, Güney Amerika ve Amerika’daki çeşitli hafıza SUMRU TAMER mekânları ve müzelere dair gözlemler de fotoğraflar SENA BAŞÖZ eşliğinde sunuldu. 23,5 HRANT DİNK 8 HAFIZA MEKÂNI 23.5 HRANT DINK SITE OF MEMORY A range of activities were carried out as part of the DESTEKÇİLER project for turning the former office of the Agos SUPPORTERS newspaper, located in Sebat Apartment in Osmanbey, into a memory site. The site has a special meaning in the collective memory since the assassination of Hrant Dink on 19 January 2007. A comprehensive work on content development was carried out for the topics that will be addressed in the memory site. In addition to that, works on the design of the memory site and the development of visitor programs in the site continued throughout 2018. Activities carried out during the preparatory phase for the Hrant Dink Site of Memory were published under the title of ‘Twenty three and a half Hrant Dink Site of Memory Preparatory Phase Report.’ The report summarizes the preparatory activities and leading recommendations, features an overview of the concept of memory sites as well as observations about the museums and memory sites in Europe, South Africa, South America and United States of America, accompanied by photos.     The Dispossession of Ottoman Armenians during the World War I Genocide Dr. Uğur Ümit Üngör Associate Professor Department of History Utrecht University This paper traces the Turkish government’s economic policies towards the Armenian population from the Young Turk coup d’état in 1913 to the fall of the regime in 1918. It will chart how this policy moved from boycott to discrimination, into confiscation and outright plunder, resulting in the mass pauperization of the victims. It identifies main currents and developments of this ruthless policy and how it affected Ottoman Armenian communities. The boycott movement Well before the war, the hawks within the Committee of Union and Progress urged peremptorily for the nationalist ideology to be translated into real economic action. The CUP launched a boycott movement against Western businesses as well as Ottoman Christians. In the period 1911-1914, the scope of the boycott movement gradually expanded and intensified. Initially economic boycotts were initiated against Habsburg businesses, soon to be followed by boycotts of Greek merchants, and in early 1914 ultimately also employed against Armenians. In a painstaking study of the boycott movement in the Ottoman Empire, Doğan Çetinkaya has concluded that the boycotts enjoyed the endorsement among wide circles of supporters, including port workers, immigrants, merchants, urban notables, low-ranking officers, professional classes, and peasants. The boycotts were truly a national project, a mass movement that transcended the antipathies and struggles that may have existed between classes. United in a tightly-organized empire-wide network, local trading networks and traditional guild organizations joined hands in the movement.

History has buried many secrets along the way, but we will try to gather together this heritage through the work of passionate musicologists. This work is neither a manual nor an encyclopedia, but instead presents a synthesis of knowledge acquired over time. It is dedicated to all those who wish to discover or better understand this unusual musical universe. Armenian words transcribed into English (phonetic of Eastern Armenian) will be indicated with a capital first letter and will remain in the singular. The author 3 4 PREFACE The long-awaited book on traditional Armenian instrumental music that was lacking has finally arrived! As my long-time friend Gerard Madilian wrote in his foreword: "History has buried many secrets along the way." It was thus urgent to share the fruits of this research with the general public, and that is why this work was deliberately written in French and translated into English, to make it widely available to as many people as possible. This book is a digest including the essential elements needed to form an opinion in this area. The specialized website www.armentrad.org was in fact selected by the author for this purpose of dissemination. I have shared the same passion with Gerard for many years, having myself practiced the Tar within the Sayat Nova ensemble, which was a traditional Armenian ensemble founded in Paris in 1965.

Biberyan, whose career began with the political articles he wrote for the Armenian newspapers and developed a distinctive voice in the Armenian press in the course of time, was late to view the literature, with which he had been on intimate terms since his childhood, as a power providing the possibility to move from ethics to politics. For detecting the reasons and consequences of this delay, it is essential to analyze the conditions under which he produced. I firmly believe that his representation of the trauma surrounding the Armenian community life and the way this trauma reverberates on his life will transform into a discourse on true collectivity. The thesis is composed of three chapters. In the first chapter, which presents an extensive biography of Zaven Biberyan, the unpublished memoir of the writer takes center stage. To make explicit the gravity of the Catastrophe imposed upon social life, the ethical concerns of Zaven Biberyan will be traced through the help of his articles. Second chapter focuses on the analysis of Biberyan’s literary works.
