The restructuring of the local government system through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2013 is another major step forward in our efforts to make public goods and services available and accessible to everyone without any exception. We believe effective local governments work for the people and reflect their needs as closely as possible - and that is where communication is positioned to play a key role. For us, communication is an important medium to inform you about our priorities and achievements. At the same time, it goes far beyond that. We are strengthening two- way communication mechanisms to foster responsive local governments and informed citizens. Both are crucial for a meaningful dialogue. The five municipalities of Adenzai, Bahrain, Barikot, Kabal and Khwazakhela were established in 2010 as a result of re-configuration of the administrative setup in Malakand Division to address security measures and flood damages. -

Soil contamination with feces of dogs hide infective stages of the parasite represents a health-risk to humans. This study was aimed to assess the eggs of gastrointestinal parasites of stray dogs and household dogs in lower Dir district, Pakistan with special consideration to those that can be spread to humans. One hundred and fifty two stool specimens from (stray dogs=90 and household dogs=62) were collected. The helminth eggs were processed by direct smear method and centrifugation techniques and identified by microscopic examination. Of the total examined dogs 26.8% (n=41 /152) were found to be infected with one or more intestinal parasites. -

The work was focused on traditional medicinal folk remedies based on the knowledge of the local peoples. During each trip, questionnaires were used to query the local men and women who were familiar with local knowledge of indigenous plants species. Main aims of the study are to conserve the old knowledge about the important medicinal plant. Forty (40) plant species were collected belonging to 30 different families. These plants are used for various purposes including Carminative, Stimulant, Digestive, Anti-diarrheal, Narcotic and Antipyretic etc. Key words: Lower Dir Flora conservation Collection of old knowledge Medicinal Uses INTRODUCTION Plants species were collected from different areas of Lower Dir including Stanadar, Malakand, Banda Bala, Dir District is rich in medicinal plants, used by the Banada Faeen, Balambat and Collage Khawar. Amongst them one taxa was Monocotyledonous (2.0%) while remaining forty nine taxa was Dicotyledonous (98.0%). Plants were mostly used for various ethno medicinal purposes viz. Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Diuretic, Blood Purifier, Refrigerant, Tonic, Antispasmodic, Analgesic, Toothache, Healing of wounds, Skin diseases and Kidney stones. INTRODUCTION Tehsil Laalqilla of District Lower Dir is located between 34°-37' to 35°-07' North latitude and 71°-31' to 72°-14' East longitude in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Tehsil Laalqilla is connected towards north with Upper Dir district and shares its boundaries towards East with Swat district, towards south connected with Malakand district and connected with Afghanistan and Bajour agency on west side. Its altitude ranges from 1300 to 2000 meters having hilly and mountainous areas which are covered with snow during winter season. -

Pakistan Situation Report #14 21 August 2009 This report was issued by OCHA HQ with a coverage period from 13 to 19 August. The next report will be issued on or around 28 August, 2009. I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES • Government figures show that 1.6 million IDPs have returned to their areas of origin so far. • Flash floods caused 14 deaths and destroyed 900 houses in Mardan and Swabi Districts of NWFP. • Registration of IDPs from Waziristan was completed this week, and approximately 126,290 individuals have been registered in Districts Tank and D.I. Khan. II. Situation Overview IDP Returns : According to the Government, the total number of families who have returned to their places of origin is 228,768 families or about 1.6 million individuals (of the 329,000 families or 2.3 million individuals registered and verified by the NWFP Government as Internally Displaced People (IDPs). The average return has dropped from 1,430 families per day to 560 families per day. Families have returned from camps, schools and host communities in the five districts of Nowshera, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda and Swabi during the last week. Over half of the returnees – or 55 percent – have returned to Swat District followed by over 70,000 families or 490,000 individuals (30 percent) to Buner District and 26,000 families (12 percent) to Dir District. Another 8,000 families (3 percent) have returned to Shangla District. Over the last reporting period, two new camps have closed. To date, 13 camps have been closed and decommissioned. Seventeen camps still exist in hosting districts of the North West Frontier Province. -
