The world has changed dramatically in these last months, which means that there have been dramatic changes for Prince of Peace. We are doing things differently these days, but our mission and vision remain the same. Whatever the state of the world is, we are called to live & love like Jesus as we seek a world restored with grace and peace. This means that we proclaim a message of life-changing hope. We continue to build and foster real connections with each other, people in our communities, and our partners around the world. And we live lives of service that reflect God’s greater purpose in our world. In this current reality, some days it is difficult to focus on this greater purpose. I hope you are inspired by the stories in this magazine that demonstrate how the people of our community are serving this greater purpose even in the face of the challenges that surround us. The Holy Spirit is moving in our midst, calling us, and encouraging us with the hope-filled promise of better days ahead. -

It is extracted from the seed of the evening primrose, but the seed of borage is an alternative source of supply with agronomic advantages. Lines of borage of diverse origin were assembled, and selections for increased seed production, oil content and GLA content, and for reduced erucic acid content, were made. All these characteristics except for oil content were clearly heritable, but GLA content was negatively correlated with oil content and positively correlated with erucic acid content. There are strict closures of entry roads, parking lots, restrooms, picnic areas and some trails in addition to Visitor Centers and campgrounds at National, State and County parks and reserves. In most cases you need to be a local resident to enter trails that are still accessible to foot or bicycle visitors. If you are out on trails, please practice social distancing precautions. Situations change quickly, so it is advised that you check on websites before venturing out. A list of some web links appears at the end of the report. That said, the weather has been cool so the blooms of last week are still mostly intact. In the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, parking lots and other amenities at trailheads are closed, but the park remains accessible to local day-use walkers, hikers and bicyclists. The National Park Service urges all visitors to follow social distancing protocols. Please avoid crowding or gathering on trails. Speaking of access to locals, a resident of the Santa Monica Mountains who lives on Stunt Rd. near the Stunt Ranch, was able to walk across the street and enter one of the small trails that eventually leads to the popular Backbone Trail. -

2003SOUTHEASTERN NATURALIST 2(3):347–368 THE VASCULAR FLORA OF GUS ENGELING WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA, ANDERSON COUNTY, TEXAS 1 2,3 2 JASON R. SINGHURST , JAMES C. CATHY , DALE PROCHASKA , 2 4 5 HAYDEN HAUCKE , GLENN C. KROH , AND WALTER C. HOLMES ABSTRACT - Field studies in the Gus Engeling Wildlife Management Area, which consists of approximately 4465.5 ha (11,034.1 acres) of the Post Oak Savannah of Anderson County, have resulted in an annotated checklist of the vascular flora corroborating its remarkable species richness. A total of 930 taxa (excluding family names), belonging to 485 genera and 145 families are re- corded. Asteraceae (124 species), Poaceae (114 species), Fabaceae (67 species), and Cyperaceae (61 species) represented the largest families. Six Texas endemic taxa occur on the site: Brazoria truncata var. pulcherrima (B. pulcherrima), Hymenopappus carrizoanus, Palafoxia reverchonii, Rhododon ciliatus, Trades- cantia humilis, and T. subacaulis. Within Texas, Zigadenus densus is known only from the study area. The area also has a large number of species that are endemic to the West Gulf Coastal Plain and Carrizo Sands phytogeographic distribution patterns. Eleven vegetation alliances occur on the property, with the most notable being sand post oak-bluejack oak, white oak-southern red oak-post oak, and beakrush-pitcher plant alliances. INTRODUCTION The Post Oak Savannah (Gould 1962) comprises about 4,000,000 ha of gently rolling to hilly lands that lie immediately west of the Pineywoods (Timber belt). Some (Allred and Mitchell 1955, Dyksterhuis 1948) consider the vegetation of the area as part of the deciduous forest; i.e., burned out forest that is presently regenerating. -
