TECHNICAL DETAILS LOCATION The first news of Vinci date back around XIth century and it is certain that the Vinci castrum is risen with the expansion of the Earls Guidi and Earls Alberti’s feudal property in this area. In the 1180 relations between Florence and Earls Guidi made better thanks to the marriage of Guido Guerra with Gualtrada, Bellicone Berti’s daughter, that was friendly of Florentines. Briefly Earls Guidi died away. The Emperor Frederic II, in the 1220, with benevolence, invested every branches of Guidi, including Empoli, Monterappoli, Cerreto and Castrum de Vincio. The village and the Vinci’s castles remained involved in the feudal age’s events, until wasn’t incorporated with the assignment of the feud to Florence. In the 1320 Castruccio Castacani devastated Vinci, sowing damages and terror; only in the 1329 the Montopoli’s peace, between Pisa and Florence, succeeded to take again a short period of quiet.

Vinci’s inhabitants wrote their page of glory in 1364, foiling the assaults of Pisans that took to their service the English captain Giovanni Hawkwood. In the 1538, the Captain Giovanni da Vinci stood out for courage and diplomatic ability obliging the Spanish soldiers to degrade that wanted to sack Vinci and Cerreto Guidi. The Vinci’s history enrich with these facts, but we find its name tied to Leonardo da Vinci.
