Storyline, screening, portrayal of women, in every sphere it matured a lot. It successfully overcomes the‟ K‟ genre, where “sans-bahu” where the main character, where one of them whether vamp or the holy cow. In those serial storylines or the treatment were more or less same and nonetheless the portrayal of women. Quarrelsome sans, extra-marital affairs of husband, conspiracy in family, loud make-up and dresses, etc. were becoming the sign of serials. If you are a women, you have to be a „vamp‟ with loud and extra make-up and jewelry, or a holy cow with minimum make-up, minimum dialogues and minimum acting (because in every action she has to be soft-spoken, less active). But, today the time has changed. Now we are experiencing a different kind of story with different character. „Jassi Jaisi Koi Nehi’ shows your look cannot be an issue in your success. Before the series „Mahi Way‟ we hardly imagined that a fat girl also can be a lead character.

Evaluation of 4 New Strategic Initiatives - Confidential - 0 Where are we today as a Network and the Indian TV Market… TAM’s introduction of LC1 Markets in the panel, has resulted in the ratings of the flagship channels to fall, along with reach and TSV The MSM bouquet doesn't have a material presence in the Regional space Key competition – Star, Zee and Colors have a well established presence in the regional space and Star and Zee’s flagship channels are performing better in the GEC genre, even with the LC1 expansion Absence of regional channels in the bouquet is a clear gap in the Network's genre reach Key competition, has a far more “pan-India” offering both in terms of genre spread and ratings Competition has a strategic advantage with presence in carriage. Both Star & Zee have presence in ground distribution (Star DEN, Tata Sky & Dish) MSM currently doesn’t have a “complete package” offering for advertisers and distributors - Confidential - 1 The Potential implications.. Flagship channel’s falling reach & TSV, may result in advertisers reducing the Premium on the channel With programming not targeted to female audiences in small towns, the introduction of TAM meters and further expansion, in Rural markets may result in further drop in ratings We also run the risk of being dropped by operators due to gaps in our bouquet offering and also for strategic reasons, which may further fuel a decline in reach and ratings. ABSTRACT Television content in India has come a long way from public broadcaster Doordarshan controlled social and developmental programs to modern day entertainment shows. The article traces the major trends witnessed in the Indian television content, Hindi and other regional languages, and attempts to analyze the factors behind the nature of such programming. The article provides a critical analysis of the television soap operas (fiction) and the reality shows (non-fiction) aired in General Entertainment Channels (GECs). Some of the key trends witnessed in the content industry includes remakes, adaptations and dubbed content from transnational programs and concepts; remakes among Indian languages- from Hindi to regional language and vice versa; and a clear tilt towards the rural content, dictated by the ever expanding rural viewership for television channels. Importantly, the article establishes the fact that, though the content seems Indian in terms of production values, the origin of some of these popular programs are undoubtedly from the transnational borders. KEYWORDS: Content industry, fiction, Indian language channels, Indian television, non-fiction, rural television market, South Indian language channels, transnational content.

  • BORDERS Piro Rexhepi
Borders Piro Rexhepi it is a fine summer evening and i am with my parents in lake Prespa, Macedonia while Muslimgauze’s ali Zarin is playing in the background. the tranquillity of the season belies the tension in our midst. news of refugees being rounded up in Greece, hunted on the Bulgarian borders or stuck at the Macedonian ones crowds our thoughts. We watch intently as Deutsche Welle maps the movement of people in transit to Europe via a new route at the Greek-albanian border. a few days later we watch the turkish coup unfold on television as mass protests continue in skopje against the government and more images of syrian children captivated in terror appear on tV. My parents switch through channels nervously and settle for their new favourite indian soap opera: ‘Diya aur Baati hum’. they can’t watch or talk about the refugees, too close to home, too many memories, too much pain. later, i drive to salonika to meet my friend saffo who i met at a failed queer collective, ambitiously and somewhat appropriately named the Balkan Queer initiative – for it remained just that, an initiative. Disappointed with the anti-racist festival we had attended earlier in the month, we hoped to go to the no Borders Camp together; an initiative to summon the precarious commons into togetherness and think of ways to confront Eu borders in the face of refugee pleas on all sides. Greece, or as saffo likes to call it, the former Ottoman Province known as yunanistan FOPOy (a pun on Greece’s persistence that Macedonia be called the Former yugoslav republic of Macedonia FyrOM), seems to be boiling too.

  • Do Hindi Cinema & Television Serials Propagate Caste Stereotypes
The International Journal of Indian Psychology ISSN 2348-5396 (e) | ISSN: 2349-3429 (p) Volume 3, Issue 3, No.3, DIP: 18.01.055/20160303 ISBN: 978-1-365-03419-0 http://www.ijip.in | April - June, 2016 Do Hindi Cinema & Television Serials Propagate Caste Stereotypes through Surnames of Characters: A Content Analysis Rakesh Kumar Maurya1* ABSTRACT Caste affiliated surnames are very common in India. In fact, they convey a lot of caste stereotypes about the bearer. This is a subtle way of practicing caste based identities and related discriminations. The current study is a content analysis of the surnames of leading fictional characters in Hindi TV serials and movies to see if TV and cinema propagate caste stereotypes through surnames of their fictional characters. The result shows excessive use of upper caste affiliated surnames used both in TV serials and cinema while surnames affiliated to lower castes have negligible presence in these programmes. Keywords: Stereotype, Caste stereotype, Surname, Television, Hindi Cinema, Media. The word ‘Caste’ is of European origin and it was first used by Purtgies travellers to India in the middle of fifteenth century. This word originated from Spanish word ‘Casta’ which means ‘lineage’ or ‘race’ or ‘a group of people having hereditary quality’.(Srinivas, 1968; Ghurye, 1932). Caste can be defined as hereditary endogamous group, having a common name, common traditional occupation, common culture, relatively rigid in matters of mobility, distinctiveness of status and forming a single homogeneous community. In India, it is a system of social stratification which divides communities into thousands of endogamous hereditary groups called Jati.
