Let us pray that they will hear the voice of the Good Shepherd amidst the daily events of their lives.

We warmly welcome Fr Kerry to our St Anthony Community.

Social Justice Thought for the Week::

The ‘ is full’ immigration argument suggests we have our infrastructure planning and investment settings quite wrong. To quote the Parliamentary Library: ‘Humanitarian entrants have the youngest age structure of all migrant groups and the largest proportion of dependent-age children…this helps to counteract the effects of an ageing Australian population, by adding to the supply of working age people. Further, humanitarian entrants have begun to contribute to the revival of regional populations and economies, as they are increasingly settling in regional Australia’.

Laurie Reedy Collection: The next collection for the fund, which supports refugees and needy families in our local area, will be held April 28/29.

Presentation People Celebrating 300 Years since the birth of Nano Nagle.

On Presentation Day – 21st November 1954 - the Presentation Sisters came to live in a new convent built by the people of St Anthony’s parish and in 1955 began the St Anthony’s primary school. The Presentation sisters ministered in the parish and school until 1997 and ever since kept in contact with many friends they had made at St Anthony’s over the years. In 2015 the Presentation presence in the Parish was renewed when Sr Maria came to minister within the parish. The Presentation sisters have touched many in your community as they have shared God’s love through the spirit of Nano Nagle - the foundress of the Presentation Sisters. This year marks the 300th anniversary of Nano Nagle’s birth. Honora Nagle (Nano) was born on 9 April 1718 in Ballygriffin County Cork, Ireland and was the eldest of seven children. She founded schools in Cork at a time when the Penal Laws made it illegal for Irish children to be educated. Today she is honoured as the founder of Catholic Education in Ireland. In year 2000 she was voted ‘Irish Woman of the Millennium’ and in 2005 was voted as Ireland’s greatest woman. In 2013 Pope Francis declared her “Venerable” – a step towards her being officially recognised as saint of the Universal church. Three hundred years since her birth, we rejoice that her life has had such an influence across the globe. The Friends of Nano are marking this occasion in a variety of ways. Let us give thanks as we call to mind the contribution of the Sisters to the St Anthony’s parish over these many years. Leadership Team - Presentation Sisters Queensland.

Source : ACBC Communications ( Australian Catholic Bishops Conference) ( Adapted) Pope Francis has given approval for the in Australia to hold a Plenary Council. This will be held in 2020 and will be the first to include women and lay people. The last plenary council, held in 1937, was an exclusively male gathering, with only bishops, theologians and superiors of male religious orders attending. The 2020 version has a different complexion with all-of-church participation from a richly diverse community, and the intent to discuss and legislate on a wide range of issues, including matters of faith, morals and discipline. Everyone in the church is invited to contribute and all are encouraged to speak what is in their minds and hearts about the way the Spirit is calling the Australian church into the future. A process of listening and dialogue will begin at Pentecost 2018 and this will help form the agenda of the Plenary Council. Lana Turvey-Collins from Queensland is the facilitator of the Church’s historic Plenary Council 2020. She is leading a three-year “transformative journey” with the cultural reform of the Church on the table. (See Catholic Leader for more details) The Bishops Commission for the Plenary Council announced the names of those who have accepted appointment to the Plenary Council Executive Committee. Their appointment followed an extensive confidential process of consultation across the Australian Church to ensure diversity. Together they bring a variety of gifts, competencies and experience to the work of the Executive Committee. The Committee will work closely with the Bishops Commission to ensure the successful preparation, celebration and implementation of the Plenary Council 2020. The Executive Committee membership with their home diocese is as follows: Mr Daniel Ang – Broken Bay. Mr Shayne Bennett – Brisbane. Br Ian Cribb SJ – Broken Bay Dr Gemma Cruz – . Sr Moya Hanlen FDNSC – Sydney. Ms Sally Hood – Brisbane Mr John Lochowiak – Adelaide. Dr Brigid McKenna – Hobart. Ms Sarah Moffatt – Adelaide. Sr Grace Roclawska CSFN – Parramatta. Rev Dr Ormond Rush – Townsville Dr Debra Sayce – . Mrs Theresa Simon – Sydney (Maronite Church) Dr Nigel Zimmerman – Parramatta. The Plenary Council is a response to the call of Saint Pope John Paul II that the Church of the third millennium discerns what the Spirit has been saying and to put into practice pastoral plans with the help of the people of God to prepare for the future. It also carries forward the call of Pope Francis for the Church to become truly synodal in its engagement with the whole Catholic community. Archbishop Coleridge said that the Plenary Council will play a crucial role in shaping the Church’s future in Australia. The Plenary Council will place the Church on a sound footing to respond to what is not merely an era of change but a change of era.’ Membership of the Bishops Commission for the Plenary Council includes: Archbishop Mark Coleridge, Archbishop Philip Wilson, Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, Bishop OFM Conv and Bishop Michael Kennedy. You can sign up for an e-newsletter by visiting the plenary council website at www.plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au
