ABOUT THE FRONT BOTTOMS Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Brian Sella and drummer Mathew Uychich, The Front Bottoms have gripped listeners and press around the world with their ragged honesty and emotional urgency. The New Jersey based band’s 2017 LP, GOING GREY, arrived to critical acclaim with lead single “Peace Sign” breaking into the Alternative Radio charts. GOING GREY is highlighted by a string of celebrated singles, among them “Vacation Town,” “Everyone But You,” and “Raining,” which NPR avowed as “…brutally honest, witty and confessional…” adding, “The group’s heart and humor shine… .” The FADER declared, “The Front Bottoms make memorable sing-a-longs that call back to a different, simpler, sadder era of confessional guitar music” with Stereogum praising the new music as, “grand and reflective and damn near arena-ready.” “…Submit to the awesome power of The Front Bottoms” stated VICE, while A.V. Club professed, “The Front Bottoms are more confident, and secure enough to confess to all they don’t yet know. It’s a privilege to listen in as they work it out.” Earlier this year The Front Bottoms returned with Ann, the 2nd installment of their Grandma Series. The six-track collection, which follows 2014’s Rose EP, features five new recordings of never before released fan favorite songs as well as the brand-new track, “Tie Dye Dragon.” CONNECT WITH THE FRONT BOTTOMS: WWW.THEFRONTBOTTOMS.COM FACEBOOK INSTAGRAM TWITTER FUELEDBYRAMEN.COM ABOUT MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA Always seeking to push themselves creatively with each subsequent release, Manchester Orchestra expanded their dynamic sound to peak form on 2017’s cinematic and epic album A Black Mile To The Surface, which features production by Catherine Marks, John Congleton (St. Vincent, Explosions In The Sky, Angel Olsen), and their longtime studio partner Dan Hannon. The record showcases a band that rethought, deconstructed, and rebuilt their songwriting process to propel their music into a new emotional arena, drawing on Hull and McDowell's unique experience scoring the 2016 Sundance hit film Swiss Army Man (directed by The Daniels). The album earned acclaim from outlets including Entertainment Weekly (“…the alt-rockers to up the drama on their latest LP. The resulting collection is a mix of sweeping guitars, booming drums, and delightful vocal harmonies"), Pitchfork ("[Manchester Orchestra's] most thrilling album to date"), Vulture, Noisey ("It's the most lyrically intricate and sonically ambitious record that the band have made. It's also their best."), Alternative Press ("One of modern rock's most consistently great bands just raised the bar again"), and MAGNET, among others. Manchester Orchestra performed Alternative Radio Top 15 and AAA-topping single“The Gold” on both Jimmy Kimmel Live and CBS This Morning: Saturday Sessions, and is among the most-booked bands at music festivals this year, playing a career-high number that includes Lollapalooza, Governor’s Ball, Austin City Limits, Boston Calling, Bottlerock, Shaky Knees Music Festival, Osheaga, and Hangout Music Festival, among others. The band recently released a new single, “I Know How To Speak,” and a documentary of the same name that chronicles the recording process of A Black Mile To The Surface, as well as an EP of that album’s demos, The Black Mile Demos. • Most Underrated Band of All Time?
:: View email as a web page :: For the past 15 years, Manchester Orchestra has been one of the most popular emo bands on the planet. The one person who has been there every step of the way is founding singer-songwriter Andy Hull, who started the band when he was in his teens and has charted his own growing-up process with each album. Manchester Orchestra has also matured a lot over the years, evolving from an intense and volatile post-hardcore outt on albums like 2009’s Mean Everything To Nothing to the expansive and philosophical indie rock of their latest, The Million Masks Of God, which drops next week. Along the way, they’ve managed to somehow grow their audience while retaining committed fans who connected with the early records as teenagers, including famous acolytes like Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker. “Even though everything did well at that time, it wasn’t really accepted by critics and ‘cool’ people,” Hull recently mused about his back catalogue, “and that totally worked in our favor, because it still holds up. It sounds, to me, pretty timeless.” Ahead of the release of The Million Masks Of God, Hull reected on every Manchester Orchestra LP, candidly breaking down the myriad fascinating dramas that marked the process of making each record. Check it out here. -- Steven Hyden, Uproxx Cultural Critic and author of This Isn't Happening: Radiohead's "Kid A" and the Beginning of the 21st Century In case you missed it... • Alt-Nation: Profile of the Silks and Events You Can’T Miss
Alt-Nation: Profile of The Silks and Events You Can’t Miss I wanted to start this column addressing the recent passing of Lou Reed. I remember reading about The Velvet Underground as a band “that almost nobody bought their records but everyone that did started a band.” As a person that perpetually starts fake bands that never go anywhere, this seemed like something to check out. This was in the early 1990’s, 20 plus years after their demise and The Velvet Underground still sounded avant garde. If one tried to explaining their greatness to someone that they got this 7 minute song called “Heroin” that uses only two chords or a three chord song called “Sister Ray” that’s 17 minutes you’d sound bat shit crazy. This is exactly what their music was, crazy. Crazy brilliant capturing the seedy underbelly of New York and Andy’s Warhol’s Factory scene. They inspired Bowie just as they were the most prominent inspiration to The Strokes 30 years later. Lou Reed’s genius is weaving his stories over a simple beat forever changed music. Sure some of his solo records sucked but some of them were great. Lou seemed like he was so ornery that I doubt he cared what anyone thought anyways. RIP Lou, nobody else besides maybe Iggy Pop can claim credit for laying the seeds of glam, punk, and alternative rock in general. The Silks – The Last American Band It seems pretentious for a band to christen itself as “The Last American Band” as The Silks do in their debut album.

  • It's Wild Sweet Orange's Time
http://bhamterminal.com/timetable July 21, 2008 André Natta Wild Sweet Orange. Courtesy of the band’s Flickr profile. Wild Sweet Orange‘s new album We Have Cause to Be Uneasy is being released within a matter of days, and The Terminal was lucky enough to receive an advance copy. The strange thing is, I think I’ve already heard this before; let me explain. The first track is an updated version of their much-touted single Ten Dead Dogs. But as I moved on to the newer tracks, my mind started to race. Everything in the national media reads pretty much the same with frontman Preston Lovinggood being praised for his “slight Southern tinge” and “country influences”. I think I’m not alone when I say that there are plenty of Birmingham bands that have an “alt country/southern” charm that is more expansive and accurate. But for Wild Sweet Orange, this isn’t really a bad thing. It’s VH1 and Grey’s Anatomy-friendly and that’s something the city’s music scene can cling to. Four guys from town on tour with Augustana and being compared to Snow Patrol is certainly attention that’s hard to shy away from. The band signed with Canvasback, the same folks that brought you Manchester Orchestra, The Swell Season and Annuals. The songs on We Have Cause to Be Uneasy seem frighteningly natural for driving music. No matter which one becomes your repeat offender, it’s hard to not be reminded of My Morning Jacket minus the reverb or Okkervil River.
