During the Second Annual Veterans Service Awards in Edmond, Oklahoma, the City of Lawton received the Pinnacle Award for Large Veteran Friendly Community—a special recognition given to Oklahoma municipalities who have excelled in service towards Oklahoma veterans. The Oklahoma City Thunder through a partnership with the Thunders Cares Foundation announced the selection of Lawton as the latest location to receive a new outdoor basketball court. The new basketball court located at Lee West Park will mark the 24th created by the Thunder Cares Foundation since 2009.
