CAMARILLO Breakfast Club -AUGUST 1, 2009 Alternate Vehicles Rule By Pam Alfenito ore than 20 “alternate vehicles” covered the lawn at the Way-Point Café competing for space with the 56 MPorsches attending our August Breakfast Meeting. SBR President Dave Stone welcomed everyone and introduced a few special guests, including Walt Branscome from Santa Barbara Auto Group. Walt announced the October 18th Launch Party for the new Porsche Panamera. We’re all invited, and details are Dave Stone presents Janice Herndon with her PCA Award on Page 8 of this issue. Also, at breakfast were Rusnak’s Adam Chirchick, who has been promoted to New Car Sales Manager, and Mark Stratmeyer, who has recently joined the Porsche side of Rusnak after eight years on the BMW side. Speaking of BMWs, Activities Co-Chairs Oscar & Toni Briones proudly drove Toni’s brand new 7-series BMW, securing a prime parking spot. Additionally, both Oscar & Toni were decked out in BMW shirts. Maybe they’re taking the “alternate vehicle month” thing a little too far? All agreed Toni’s new super-sedan was spectacular. There were lots of other interesting “rides” on display, several pictured at right. From a “slammed” 1963 Lincoln to a new Aston- Martin, “alternate vehicles” ruled! Toni Briones new 7-series BMW Eddie Kosakoski from World Class Motoring made a pitch for their Ventura Show, scheduled for the Ventura Fairgrounds October 3 & 4. Region volunteers are needed for three-hour shifts. If you’d like to assist, see the ad on Page 5 for contact information. Membership Chair Janice Herndon was presented with the plaque honoring Der Auspuff for its first place finish in Class IV at the 2008 PCA National Newsletter Competition. Janice received 1963 Lincoln a well-deserved round of applause for all her creative efforts. Oscar Briones outlined the upcoming events with Bill Sampson touting the Detail Clinic on September 12 and the Concours d’Elegance on October 11. Ted Lighthizer promoted the September 26 Gimmick Rally. It was another very successful breakfast gathering, with 129 members and guests attending. We sincerely hope you’ll consider joining the fun folks at the Way-Point Café on Saturday, September 5, when next we meet in Camarillo. = Photos by John Alfenito “Bond, James Bond.” The Aston-Martin

Children’s Play Day At Casa Pacifica Saturday, October 17, 2009 SBR Board Member Steve Kaller is organizing a special day for the children living at Casa Pacifica in Camarillo. On Saturday, October 17, 2009, plan to bring your Porsche (or other unique vehicle) to Casa Pacifica for a barbeque lunch and “play day” with the kids. Volunteers are being recruited right now to help gather “gifts” for every child. People with special talents - face painters, actors, story readers, ball players, game organizers, musicians, etc. - are sought for their skills in helping to entertain the children. If you can help, we’re not asking for your money. We’d like a committment of your time. This event is our way of showing the Casa Pacifica kids that the Santa Barbara Region truly cares about them. If you’re planning to attend this event, please R.S.V.P. to Steve Kaller today at: [email protected] We want to make certain there’s enough food for everyone!

wenty R.U.F.-ians answered the call to adventure on July 23, 2009. Their Televen-Porsche-rendezvous was set for 10:30 a.m. at Camarillo’s Way-Point Café. The destination was the incredible Gardens of the World, situated directly across the street from the Civic Arts Plaza and City Hall in the City of Thousand Oaks. First, however, awaited a challenging drive through and across the Malibu Hills of the Santa Monica Range. What a drive! The Gardens of the World became a reality when Ed and Lynn Hogan, founders of Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays, decided to build a striking monument to commemorate the various cultures of the world. Their motivation was simple: to give something back to the community where they live and conduct their highly successful business, and the desire to share with others their travel experiences and the beauty they have seen during their treks around the world. The Gardens of the World exist not only as a cultural contribution to the community, but as an educational tool. www.pcasb.org • Porsche Club of America • Santa Barbara Region • September 2009 31 ...the last word Feed Archie!

When the R.U.F. group visited The Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks in July, we were surprised and pleased to find this bronze statue along the garden pathway. It’s a depiction of Archie, the Newfoundland, who serves as official mascot for Casa Pacifica in Camarillo, one of our region’s two desig- nated charities for 2009. Archie’s sculpted self is nestled among some of his “children,” perched above the sign “So He Can Care For His Kids.” The Newfie’s giant mouth is open, awaiting cash donations, which we happily supplied. A small world brought even closer together by our affiliation with PCA/SBR.
