  • Parliamentary Team Visits M'sia Over Workers Issue
04 FEB 2002 Indon-Team PARLIAMENTARY TEAM VISITS M'SIA OVER WORKERS ISSUE JAKARTA, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- A five-member team of Indonesian parliamentarians flew to Kuala Lumpur this afternoon to appeal to the Malaysian government to relax its decision to reduce the number of Indonesian workers in the country. The team, led by a Deputy Speaker of the People's Representatives Assembly, Muhaimin Iskandar, comprises Sabam Sirait who is also head of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee, Bachrum Rasir, Happy Bone Zulkarnain and Posma Lumban Tobing. Muhaimin, who is responsible for parliamentary affairs on the people's welfare, told reporters before leaving for the Malaysian capital that during the two-day visit the team would hold discussion with Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Syed Hamid Albar. He was confident that with the close working relationship between the parliaments of the two neighbouring countries, an amicable solution to the problem could be reached. Indonesia had been worried by Malaysia's drastic action in deporting thousands of its workers as this could put pressure on unemployment at home where almost 40 million people are already without jobs. The move was prompted by a series of criminal incidents involving Indonesian workers, the latest being the violent riot at a textile factory hostel in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, and the fight among themselves in Cyberjaya. Indonesia has not only apologised for the rampage but also appealed to Malaysia to continue giving Indonesia priority in its recruitment of foreign workers. Displaying concern over the issue, President Megawati Sukarnoputri last Friday sent Justice and Human Rights Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra as her emissary to discuss matters affecting Indonesdian workers.

This is open access article under the CC-BY-NC 4.0 International License The Legal Politics of Recall Right of Political Parties Relevance with the System of Popular Sovereignty In Dynamics of the Constitution of Indonesia Malicia Evendiaa,*, Armen Yasirb, Yulia Netac, Ade Arif Firmansyahd a,b,c,dFaculty of Law Lampung University, Lampung, Indonesia *e-mail : [email protected] Abstract: The existence of regulation of recall rights of political parties as regulated in Law No. 17 of 2014 and Law No. 2 of 2008 bring a great influence on the position of legislative members. Based on these rules, legislators may be dismissed from their positions if proposed by Political Party. This certainly brings a polemic for the people as the sovereign owner, who have chosen their representatives through the electoral process, but when chosen representatives of the people can be dismissed from his position by a political parties through the mechanism of the right of recall. This research was done by doctrinal method approach as well as the use of the statute, historical, and conceptual approach. This results showed that the legal politics of recall right of political parties is actually only used as an instrument of the political parties in controlling its members in parliament in order to always adhere to the party's policy direction. This makes the recall right political party is legal products that characterized conservative or orthodox. The existence of a political party's recall rights order gives a great authority to the political parties to negate the result of the people's choice as the holder of sovereignty for the sake of the political party.

  • In Search of Hegemony: Islamism and the State in Indonesia
In Search of Hegemony: Islamism and the State in Indonesia LUQMAN NUL HAKIM This thesis is submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy The University of Melbourne February 2019 Declaration I certify that this thesis is the product of my own research, fewer than the maximum word limit in length, and contains no material which has been accepted as part of the requirements of any other degree at any tertiary education institution, or any material previously published by another person except where due reference is made. Luqman Nul Hakim i Abstract In post-authoritarian Indonesia, but particularly following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Islamism has become a contentious matter of scholarly debate. The prominent accounts emerging from security and democratisation studies place much analytical weight on ideology and culture by often portraying the relationship between Islam and politics in essentialist fashion, associating the dynamics of Islamism with interpretations of Islamic doctrine or the contest between moderate and radical Muslims. The institutionalist literature, on the contrary, explains the rise of Islamism as the result of the weak capacity of the state following the fall of the centralised New Order authoritarian regime. Another variant draws attention to the moderation of Islamic politics as the result of participation in democratic processes, especially electoral politics. Yet, such linear and teleological explanations obscure the complex circumstances that establish the different trajectories of Islamism. They also fail to comprehend how the prevalence of Islamist discourse on power struggles in the current democracy can produce a more conservative and illiberal form of Islamism. In contrast, this thesis utilises the politics of hegemony approach as developed in the traditions of political discourse theory.

  • Popularitas, Akseptabilitas, & Elektabilitas Kandidat Calon Presiden

  • MEGAWATI TOLD to DISCUSS WORKERS ISSUE with DR MAHATHIR (Bernama 07/02/2002)
07 FEB 2002 Indon-Bomer MEGAWATI TOLD TO DISCUSS WORKERS ISSUE WITH DR MAHATHIR JAKARTA, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- President Megawati Sukarnoputri should discuss with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad Malaysia's plan to halve the number of Indonesian workers in that country. She should also take up with the Prime Minister, Malaysia's introduction of a "hire Indonesian last" policy, a former Manpower Minister Bomer Pasaribu has suggested. Bomer, who is also the Director of the Centre for Labour and Development Studies, said that Indonesia needed to make extra efforts to prevent the straining of bilateral ties between Indonesia and Malaysia, a country that had offered many job opportunities to Indonesian workers. "Megawati should address the matter personally with Dr Mahathir because the jobs of hundreds of thousands of Indonesian workers are at stake...what will their families eat, when they come back to Indonesia without a job?," Bomer was quoted as saying by the English daily "The Jakarta Post". He said sending ministers to Malaysia to deal with this messy issue was not going to bring about any change. Dr Mahathir himself had been making the policies and this issue needed to be dealt with at national level or Indonesia risked worsening its ties with Malaysia, he said. Indonesian workers had been involved in a series of incidents with the latest being a rampage at a textile factory in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, on Jan 17, and three days later fighting broke out among themselves at Cyberjaya near Kuala Lumpur. In the latest development over the issue, Malaysia had decided to retain only those hired as maids and plantation workers.

Don’t fight the current Taye Shim ([email protected]) Head of Research / Strategist Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia Research Emma Fauni ([email protected]) Research Associate Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia Research June 26, 2018 Don’t fight the current . Turbulence driven by external factors: It has been a rollercoaster ride for the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) in 1H18. The JCI started off with a good start reaching a year-high of 6,693pt on February 20. However, the upward trend was reversed following the release of Fed minutes hinting gradual monetary policy normalization (rate hikes). JCI continued its downward spiral driven by external issues including nuclear threats from North Korea, rising geopolitical risks in Middle East, US- China trade tensions, etc. How’s the domestic growth story? Macro wise, we think it’s not too hot, not too cold. External issues continue to challenge growth, however, domestic growth is strong enough to cushion the impact (stable consumption and exciting investment growth). Corporate earnings remain elusive amid stubbornly low inflationary backdrop. Indeed, our Universe revenue growth is projected to slip to 9% YoY from 13% YoY (2017). However, considering the gravity of the recent market pullback (-8% YTD), we judge market reaction to be overdone. The unwinding of index funds: Large caps were the darling during the strong inflows driven by global index funds. As market volatility escalates redemption of index funds have relentlessly net sold large caps regardless their fair value. As we expect prolonged strong dollar to prompt Long USD/ Short EM Asset strategy, we think the unwinding process is less likely to be short-lived.

  • Indonesian Presidential Election, 2014
E2-2-1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesian_presidential_election,_2014 Indonesian presidential election, 2014 The next Indonesian presidential election will be held in July 9, 2014. It will be Indonesia's third direct presidential election, and will elect a president for a five-year term. Incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term in office.[1][2] According to the 2008 election law, only parties or coalitions controlling 20% of DPR seats or winning 25% of the popular votes in the 2014 parliamentary elections will be eligible to nominate a candidate. This law is unlikely to be amended before the 2014 elections.[3] Arrangements for the election Arrangements for the conduct of elections in Indonesia are carried out under the supervision of the Indonesian Election Commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum, or KPU). The presidential elections in 2014 will be carried out in accordance with Law (Undang-undang) No 28 of 2008 about the election of a President and Vice President. Voting system Indonesia is working towards e-voting in the hope of implementing the new system in the 2014 general elections.[4] The basis of the e-voting system is electronic identity cards (e-KTP) which are expected to be ready by 2012 nation- wide, but have been tried in six districts/cities, namely Padang (West Sumatra), Denpasar (Bali), Jembrana (Bali), Yogyakarta (Java), Cilegon (West Java) and Makassar (South Sulawesi).[5] Political parties Candidates for president will be nominated as individuals (along with a vice-presidential running partner). However, support from the main political parties is likely to play a key role in influencing the result.
