GENERAL INTRODUCTION The following systematic revisions of New Zealand taxa within the Arionacean subfamilies F l ammulininae Climo, 1969, Otoconchinae Cockerell, 1893 and Endodontinae Suter, 1913 (family Endodontidae Pilsbry, 1894) are based on quantitative reappraisals of shell morphology and studi es on radular and soft-part morphology. The last major revision of these New Zealand pulmonate taxa was presented by Suter (1 913) i n hi s Manual of the New Zealand Mollusca, and illustra ted in hi s Atlas of Plates which appeared in 1915. Suter' s work was, as were the great majority of earlier pulmonate systematic studies, based on studies of shell and radular morphology, and was the major contribution towards the erection of a systematic hierarchy which illustrated the indigenous nature of the New Zealand endodontid fauna. -

Unfortunately, much of the Hawaiian land snail fauna has been lost, with overall extinction rates as high as ~70% (Hayes et al ., unpubl. data). However, the recent rediscovery of an extinct species provides hope that all is not lost, yet continued habitat destruction, impacts of invasive species, and climate change, necessi - tate the immediate development and deployment of effective conservation strategies to save this biodiversity treasure before it vanishes entirely (Solem 1990, Rég nier et al . 2009). It was originally described from the island of O‘ahu in 1868 and was subsequently recorded throughout the Ko‘olau Mountain range. -

Email: [email protected] ABSTRACT – The coast of the Western Australian Kimberley boasts an archipelago that comprises several hundred large islands and thousands much smaller. While the non–marine gastropod fauna of the Kimberley mainland has been surveyed to some extent, the fauna of these islands had never been comprehensively surveyed and only anecdotal and unsystematic data on species occurrences have been available. During the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation’s Kimberley Island Survey, 2008–2010, 22 of the largest islands were surveyed. Altogether, 17 species of terrestrial non–camaenid snails were found on these islands. This corresponds to about 75% of all terrestrial, non–camaenid gastropods known from the entire Kimberley region. In addition, four species of pulmonate freshwater snails were found to occur on one or more of four of these islands. Individual islands harbour up to 15, with an average of eight, species each. Species diversity was found to be higher in the wetter parts of the region. -

Además, se aportan datos sobre la mor fología conquiológica, principalmente, y anatómica de esas especies; también, se presentan nuevos datos acerca de la distri bución. SUMMARY As a result of a bibliographical compilation for lberian Península, the next check-list has been obtained: Punctum pyg maeum, Toltecia pusilla, Helicodiscus singleyanus, Discus rotundatus and O. ruderatus. Moreover, data of conchyological, mainly, and genital features of these species are provided; also, sorne new data concerting the distribution are presented. Observations on the Native Land Mollusca of Taranaki
TANE 20 1974 OBSERVATIONS ON THE NATIVE LAND MOLLUSCA OF TARANAKI By P.G. Parkinson* SUMMARY The author's recent collections of land snails from parts of Egmont National Park reveal a total of 40 species of which 22 are new records for Taranaki and three are putative new species (not herein described). When earlier publications of the mollusca of Taranaki are taken into consideration the local fauna is found to consist of 65 recorded species. The commonest species found in the author's montane collections appear to be Charopa pseudoleioda, Ch. reeftonensis, Laoma regularis and Paralaoma sericata "brown", which appear in almost two-thirds of all the samples. Other common species are Ch. wairarapa (a new record), Laoma mariae, Obanella rimutaka and O. spectabilis (both new records) and a putative new species Paralaoma "roseate". The only common native slug is Athoracophorus bitentaculatus rufovenosus. The discovery of the interesting "Egmont Paryphanta" is described and the known collections traced. PREVIOUS LAND SNAIL COLLECTIONS FROM TARANAKI Land Mollusca seem to have been first collected in Taranaki by Mr R. Murdoch of Wanganui who published some of his findings9 and by Preston (published by Sykes14). Most of Murdoch's collection was destroyed by fire sometime before 1913 but duplicates of most of his species were in the collection of Suter (formerly at Wanganui but now in the National Museum, Wellington), and these specimens are the basis of the records made by Suter in his Manual13. These collections furthermore provide the distribution records for Climo5'6 in his review of the New Zealand Charopids. -

Spixiana 38 (1): 139- 143. Trindade is an oceanic island 1140 km off Vitória, Brazil. The Marion Dufresne Expedition (1987) recovered there many land snail shells, all stylommatophoran pulmonates. Here, four microgastropod species found in this material are re- corded for the first time on Trindade Island: Lilloiconcha gordurasensis (Charopidae), Pupisoma macneilli (Valloniidae), Gastrocopta barbadensis (Gastrocoptidae) and Ver- tigo sp. (Vertiginidae). The last one could be a non-native, introduced species. Unfortunately, none of these species can be currently found alive on the island, which can be indicative of extinction. Johannes Thiele and His Contributions to Zoology. Part 2. Genus-Group Names (Mollusca)
NEMOURIA Occasional Papers of the Delaware Museum of Natural History NUMBER 39 SEPTEMBER 30, 1991 JOHANNES THIELE AND HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO ZOOLOGY. PART 2. GENUS-GROUP NAMES (MOLLUSCA) Kenneth J. Boss 1 and Rudiger Bieler2 ABSTRACT. This is the second part of a series on the German zoologist Johannes Thiele (1860-1935) and comprises a critical listing of the genus-group taxa which he described as new to malacology. Each of these names is accompanied by author and bibliographic references, original status, type-species with its original binominal spelling and bibliographic source and some data on subsequent taxonomic placements. Thiele introduced a total of 291 such names in the Phylum Mollusca, distributed as follows: 11 Aplacophora; 39 Polyplacophora; 200 Gastropoda (138 Prosobranchia; 20 Opisthobranchia and 42 Pulmonata); 31 Bivalvia; 10 Cephalopoda; there were no new scaphopod or monoplacophoran names. Of these, later authors recognized as valid 85 at the generic level, 110 at the subgeneric level; 71 are considered to be synonyms, and the remaining 25 are unjustified emendations or errors. INTRODUCTION As part of a series on the scientific contributions of Johannes Thiele, the eminent German zoologist, we provide here an alphabetical listing and analysis of all the genus-group taxa introduced by him in his publications on mollusks as delineated by Bieler & Boss (1989). [email protected] Abstract: Araucocharopa gallardoi gen. et sp. n. of Charopidae (Gastropoda: Stylommatophora: Punctoidea) from Southern Chile. Araucocharopa gallardoi gen. et sp. n. from Southern Chile is described. It is characterized by a small trochoid shell (mean diameter: 1.8 mm), 4 ½ - 5 convex whorls, body whorl subcuadrangular; elevated spire (mean height / diameter: 0.74); adult sculpture of high, prominent and vertical 120 axial ribs; periostracal lamelae growing on the axial ribs; protoconch of 1 ¾ whorls with microsculture consisting of 12 spiral costulae with barely visible irregular rings; semilunate aperture descending basally; umbilicus very narrow. The ringed spiral costulae of protoconch is a distinctive feature into the family Charopidae. As part of the discussion, the protoconchs of type species of Stephanoda and Austrodiscus are described for the first time, the embrionic sculpture of S. dissimilis shows irregular axial and spiral fine ribs, and delicate incisurae; in A. twomeyi the protoconch begins smooth, showing axial ribs crossed by fine spirals costulae, not well separated from teleoconch. The faunaof the KnchauffRange in the Central Ranges is an exception to this general rule as the Finke Gorge National Park contains at least 25 species of snails, 30% of the central Australian fauna. Similar areas in the Central Ranges. such as the George Gill Range and eastern MacDonnell Ranges have a significantlylower diversity of land snails. It is postulated that high levels of diversity and endemicity in central Australian camaenids are the product of vicariance events related to Tertiary and Quaternary changes in climate. This is the first record for S. calderaensis after its description, extending its known distribution about 350 km northwards. Details on the protoconch of B. holostoma are presented for the first time, and this species extends its distributional range 145 km southwards. The microhabitat of these species in litho-refugia may explain the presence of these minute terrestrial mollusks in hyper arid northern Chile, further highlighting the need of additional studies of this neglected fauna. © 2017 Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Instituto de Biología.
