We’re changing the way you park

A Major construction is now underway at Airport as we build the Airport of the Future. The next phase of development will have a significant impact on the capacity of the terminal carparks, meaning we will need to make some changes to where staff park.

What’s changing?

We are moving over 700 staff car parks to the expanded Park&Ride car park on Verissimo Drive. This is to accommodate the start of major construction around the international terminal precinct. In this area we will expand the international arrivals area, construct a new five-star hotel and, most significantly, begin works on the new domestic jet terminal of what will ultimately be a combined domestic and international airport.

Who will be moving?

All staff located in staff car park 7 will be relocated to the Verissimo Drive car park, where we have developed an additional 1000 spaces and a new bus shelter exclusively for staff.

1 What is Park&Ride?

Park&Ride is a secure parking facility that offers a free transfer service to both terminals, and is located only a few minutes away. The Park&Ride service operates 24 hours a day providing dedicated buses to each terminal. We have increased the frequency of the shuttle service to and from the international terminal to every five minutes from 4am to midnight. We have also developed a contingency route for the bus to use at peak congestion to maintain access to and from the international terminal.

How will this affect me?

As the Park&Ride buses operate to a schedule, we suggest that you plan an extra 10-15 minutes into your journey to ensure you arrive at or leave work on time. While the change to Park&Ride may feel like an additional step, you will benefit from a safe, secure park and get dropped off and picked up right in front of the terminal.

When does this take place?

The change will be effective from 30 September 2017.

2 How do I get there?

Park&Ride is located at 42 Verissimo Drive in Mangere. If you’re coming from the North, proceed as normal down onto George Bolt Memorial Drive, and take a left onto Verissimo Drive at the Landing roundabout (opposite the Hellmann building).

3 Auckland Airport New access route for staff living south and east.

We are making it easier for you to get to and from the carpark if you access the airport via Puhinui Road / Tom Pearce Drive. We’re upgrading Nixon Road to a two way 60km/h road and providing a new entry and exit point to the car park from this road.

4 How will I gain access to the car park?

Your existing swipe card will allow you to enter and exit the Park&Ride car park. Staff will have a dedicated entry and exit into their area of the car park, which will be clearly marked prior to the entrance.

What if I need help getting in or out of the car park?

As Park&Ride is a 24-hour operation, pressing the call button at the gate entry or exit will connect you with a staff member. Alternatively, you can phone Auckland Airport Monitoring on (09) 256 8817.

Security

Park&Ride was designed in collaboration with Auckland Airport security and the Police, to ensure the safest possible car park. The car park is fully electric-fenced and the entry and exits are equipped with sliding gates to limit entry. CCTV cameras are monitored by the Auckland Airport operations team and also the 24/7 parking attendant located in the public waiting area.

5 Auckland Airport OUTSIDE GATE

STAFF SWIPE POST 6 Where do I park once I arrive?

Staff will have a dedicated entry and exit from the north and south to this car park. Staff parking will be in a completely separate car park to the public area.

7 Auckland Airport How will the Park&Ride bus service work?

The Park&Ride bus service operates on a strict timetable, departing every 5 minutes during peak staff change-over times from 4am to midnight. The short journey from the Park&Ride car park to the International Terminal takes 5 minutes each way, including an additional stop on Ray Emery Drive, to service the cargo areas as per the map on page 10. There is also a dedicated domestic terminal transfer service from Park&Ride, with the buses clearly marked international or domestic.

8 How long does this take compared to parking in staff car park 7?

We have compared Park&Ride journey times with the time it currently takes staff to park up in Carpark 7and walk to the terminal. For staff arriving from the north and south, there is very little difference in total journey times. We suggest that at least for the first few weeks you plan an extra 10-15 minutes into your journey.

9 Auckland Airport 10 The buses and the facilities

Four Park&Ride buses operate the service to the International Terminal and can transport up to 45 passengers per trip. Enclosed, separate waiting facilities are available for the exclusive use of staff and customers.

Do I have to schedule a space on the bus?

No booking is required. Please ensure you arrive with time to spare, as the buses operate on a strict timetable.

Is there cover where I can wait at the bus stops?

Cover is provided at all bus stop locations, including the international cargo bus stop on Ray Emery Drive. By September a new covered waiting area for staff will be in place to complement the facility already available in the centre of the Park&Ride carpark. We believe that these covered areas and the transfer to the terminal doors will provide a better parking experience for staff, particularly through the winter months.

11 Auckland Airport 12 INTERNATIONAL BUS STOP

13 Auckland Airport Where will the Park&Ride bus drop me off?

The Park&Ride bus stop is clearly marked outside the International Terminal by the main bus stop between Doors 7 and 8. In addition the bus will stop on Ray Emery Drive to service the cargo areas.

What will it cost me?

From October 2017, the cost of staff bronze parking will increase to $628.45 per annum which works out to $2.61 per day.

What if I require disability assistance?

The Park&Ride bus is equipped with 4 wheelchair spaces per bus, and the bus driver is trained on securing and fastening. If you need assistance, please ask the driver. If you are worried, the best approach would be to discuss your concerns with your direct manager.

14 General Rules for the Park&Ride Bus Service
