GRAN PREMI " CIUTAT DE BARCELONA " Quan per les piscines europees van començar a proliferar les reunions de natació, Barcelona, amb la Federació Catalana al davant, va intentar en diferents ocasions organitzar una d'aquestes reunions, per bé que, per una raó o altre (gairebé sempre per raons econòmiques, però) va haver de deixar-ho córrer. Fent una mica d'història cal esmentar el "Gran Premi de Pasqua", organitzat des del 1907 pel degà de la natació catalana, i espanyola, el Club Natació Barcelona, que va comptar en diferents ocasions amb participació internacional. No va ser, però, fins el gener del 1978 quan s'organitzava la primera edició del "TURBO INTERNACIONAL", encara que sense aconseguir de reunir una gran participació internacional, ni en quantitat ni en qualitat, i tant va ser així que en la segona edició, i darrera, la participació es va limitar als nedadors nostrats, sense intentar d'invitar cap nedador estranger (el 1980 l'organització d'aquest TURBO INTERNACIONAL va passar a Palma de Mallorca, on si que va aconseguir un cert ressò internacional) Va ser cap a finals del 1979 quan, sense gairebé ni pensar-s'ho, la F.C.N. amb el seu President, En David Moner, al davant, va desfermar el darrer assalt per tal d'oferir a la nostra natació la possibilitat de veure en acció alguns dels millors nedadors del mon. Es va pensar aleshores en una fórmula de competició que no fos la normal d'invitar a un determinat nombre de nedadors, competint amb el programa clàssic de proves, i es va arribar a una entesa, segons la qual s'invitaria a un determinat nombre d'equips, masculins i femenins, compostos de quatre nedadors/es (un per cada especialitat), que competirien en els 100 i 200 metres de cada estil, i un relleu de 4x100m.estils, amb una puntuació que seria la suma dels temps aconseguits en cadascuna de les proves. -
