MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship PRESS RELEASE MIES, 18/08/2020 FOR MORE INFORMATION : ISABELLE LARIVIÈRE COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER [email protected] TEL +41 22 950 95 68 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship/ FIM Supersport and Supersport 300 World Championships 2020 calendars, UPDATE 18 August The Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), Circuito Estoril officials and Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO) are pleased to announce an additional round to the 2020 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. The Circuito Estoril, situated just 30km from the Portuguese capital city of Lisbon, will host the WorldSBK class, along with the FIM Supersport World Championship and the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship from the 16th – 18th of October. The event will replace the Riviera di Rimini Round at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” as the season-ending round and will be the first time in WorldSBK history that two rounds will be held in Portugal. The track has been on the WorldSBK calendar in the past: the first year of the Championship in 1988 and in 1993, the most recent occasion. The Estoril round has not yet decided about the presence of fans and on-site external media, but a decision will made at a more relevant time, in accordance to the protocols of the moment. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of all parties involved, the Riviera di Rimini Round of the 2020 Championship at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” has been cancelled. 2020 was the final year of the current contract and despite the cancellation, a new three-year deal has been secured to bring the fastest production-based Championship in the world to the Adriatic Coast again. 2021 will be mark the 30th year of WorldSBK’s presence at the track, with it being on the calendar in all but two years of racing. • Racing Towards a Sustainable Future a Review of the Sustainability Performance of International Racing Circuits
RACING TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE A REVIEW OF THE SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE OF INTERNATIONAL RACING CIRCUITS Edition June 2021 Racing towards a sustainable future FOREWORD I have been involved with the safety and sustainability of racing tracks for many years now, as a driver, GPDA Chairman and a circuit designer. And while I would argue that big improvements have been made in terms of safety, I also know that there is a long way to go in terms of fully embracing sustainability for racing tracks around the globe. Though circuits have started to change the way in which they approach sustainability, more guidance on what sustainability means and how a circuit can be sustainable are needed. This is why I welcome this new research and the data-driven proposal of the Sustainable Circuits Index™, highlighting indicators from the wider sustainability and sport ecosystem, encouraging best practice and calling attention to the importance of transparent reporting and independent validation. Motorsport has historically been defined by its commitment to innovation and excellence through competition. It’s now critically important for our sport to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability through collaboration. This paper highlights the new metrics for success in this global effort and provides circuits with the tools they need to help win the race for our planet, a race which we can only win together. Alexander Wurz Former F1 Driver, GPDA Chairman, and Consultant on Road Safety and Circuit Design Sustainability is one of the key issues of today’s society as confirmed by the increasing attention of governments, media, academics, and industry.
