MAY 23, 2021 11:30 WORSHIP SUNDAY OF PENTECOST

PRELUDE Another in The Fire The Net Band by Chris Davenport & Joel Houston

There’s a grace when the heart is under fire Another way when the walls are closing in And when I look at the space between Where I used to be and this reckoning I know I will never be alone

There was another in the fire standing next to me There was another in the waters holding back the seas And should I ever need reminding of how I’ve been set free There is a cross that bears the burden where another died for me There is another in the fire

All my debt left for dead beneath the waters I’m no longer a slave to my sin anymore And should I fall in the space between What remains of me and this reckoning Either way I won’t bow to the things of this world And I know I will never be alone

There was another in the fire standing next to me There was another in the waters holding back the seas And should I ever need reminding what power set me free There is a grave that holds no body and now that power lives in me There is another in the fire

And I can see the light in the darkness as the darkness bows to Him I can hear the roar in the heavens as the space between wears thin I can feel the ground shake beneath us as the prison walls cave in Nothing stands between us nothing stands between us

There is but the Name that is Jesus He who was and still is and will be through it all So come what may in the space between All the things unseen and this reckoning I know I will never be alone I know I will never be alone

Chorus 2: There’ll be another in the fire standing next to me There’ll be another in the waters holding back the seas And should I ever need reminding of how good you’ve been to me I’ll count the joy come every battle ‘cause I know that’s where You’ll be I’ll count the joy come every battle ‘cause I know that’s where You’ll be

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP Holy Spirit by Bryan & Katie Torwalt

There’s nothing worth more that will ever come close Nothing can compare, You’re our living hope Your presence Lord

I’ve tasted and seen of the sweetest of loves Where my heart becomes free and my shame is undone In Your presence Lord

Chorus: Holy Spirit, You are welcome here Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere Your glory God is what our hearts long for To be overcome by Your presence Lord

Let us become more aware of Your presence Let us experience the glory of Your goodness Let us become more aware of Your presence Let us experience the glory of Your goodness

Chorus: PRAYER OF CONFESSION God of power and possibility, With the flame of your Spirit, you give us energy to move into the world in Jesus’ name. With the breath of your Spirit, you refresh us to engage life in its complexity. Your Spirit embraces us in our diversity and invites us to find unity in your love.

Yet, we confess that we have not always paid attention to the urging of your Spirit, calling us to follow your will and your way. Too often we claim to belong to Jesus but choose instead to ignore his teaching. You created us to love you and one another, but we fail to offer your love to those who differ from us.

Stir in our hearts and in our lives with your Holy Spirit. Transform who we are, and direct who we shall become through Christ’s redeeming love.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Elementary children are invited to participate in a brief lesson and activity at this time and will return during the anthem.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION AND OLD TESTAMENT READING Psalm 104:24-34

NEW TESTAMENT READING AND SERMON Acts 2:1-21 “Anxious Times” Rev. Dr. Donnie R. Woods General Presbyter – Charleston Atlantic Presbytery

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH A Brief Statement of Faith We trust in God the Holy Spirit everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”

ANTHEM Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) Words & music by Matt Crocker, Joel Houston and Salomon Ligthelm

You call me out upon the waters, the great unknown where feet may fail And there I find You in the mystery, in oceans deep my faith will stand

Chorus: And I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise my soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours and You are mine.

Your grace abounds in deepest waters, your sovereign hand will be my guide Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me, you’ve never failed and You won’t start now.

Chorus:

Bridge: Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters wherever You would call me. Take me deeper than my feel could every wander Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger in the present of my Savior

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

CLOSING SONG And All the People Said Amen by Matt Maher, Trevor Morgan & Paul Moak

You are not alone, if you are lonely When you feel afraid, you’re not the only We are all the same, in need of mercy To be forgiven and be free It’s all you got to lean on but that God it’s all you need

Chorus: And all the people said amen And all the people said amen Give thanks to the Lord for His love never ends And all the people said amen If you’re rich or poor well it don’t matter Weak or strong you know love is what we’re after We’re all broken but we’re all in this together God know we stumble and fall And He so loved the world He sent His son to save us all

Chorus

Blessed are the poor in spirit who are torn apart Blessed are the persecuted and the pure in heart Blessed are the people hungry for another start For theirs is the kingdom, the kingdom of God

Chorus
