Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Game Notes JACKSONVILLE JUMBO SHRIMP GAME NOTES Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (5-9) at Tennessee Smokies (7-7) Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp – Double-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins Proud Member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Southern League Champions 1996, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014 Saturday April 21, 2018 – 5:30 p.m. Smokies Stadium – Kodak, Tennessee Shrimp: RHP Pablo Lopez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Smokies: RHP Trevor Clifton (1-2, 4.80) Game #15 – Road Game #11 (2-8) Last Game: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Jeff Brigham won his third straight start to begin his Double-A career, with home runs by first baseman Eric Jagielo and catcher Chris Hoo propelling a 5-1 win to snap the Chattanooga Lookouts’ seven-game winning streak at AT&T Field Friday night. Chattanooga (9-6) scored its only run to take a first-inning lead against Brigham (3-0). Left fielder Brent Rooker hit a one-out triple to center field and scored on shortstop Nick Gordon’s sacrifice fly. It was the first run of the season allowed by Brigham, who scattered five hits and one walk with two strikeouts in his third straight five-inning start. Jacksonville (5-9) tied the game in the top of the second inning against Lookout left-hander Lewis Thorpe (0-2). Right fielder John Norwood extended a nine-game hitting streak with a leadoff triple to right-center field and scored the tying run when a third strike to designated hitter Colby Lusignan got past Lookouts catcher Brian Navarreto. Jagielo gave the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with a one-out solo home run – his team-high third of the season – to right field. Hoo led off the fifth inning with his first Southern League home run to make it 3-1. Hoo notched his first three-hit game in Double-A. Left fielder Austin Dean tallied three hits to raise his Southern League-best .521 average. Thorpe departed with a runner at first base and two outs in the sixth inning, and left-hander Anthony McIver entered to face third baseman Brian Schales, who doubled to left field, putting two runners in scoring position. Designated hitter Colby Lusignan hit a two-run single into center field, extending the lead to 5-1. Thorpe allowed four earned runs on six hits and no walks with eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. McIver allowed the final run on five hits and one walk in one inning. Following Brigham, Jumbo Shrimp left-hander Jose Quijada pitched three hitless innings, allowing only a leadoff walk in the eighth inning before inducing an inning-ending double play. Left-hander Jeff Kinley pitched a perfect ninth inning. UPCOMING SCHEDULE AND PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS DATE OPP. This is his first call up to the major leagues and the first for a player from the Jacksonville roster to Miami this season. Gonzalez is listed by MLB.com as Miami’s No. 15 prospect and a top-20 Marlins prospect for 2018 according to Baseball America. Gonzalez made his major league debut on Thursday night, working a scoreless seventh and eighth inning, scattering three hits, and he struck out Lorenzo Cain for his first big league strikeout. Norwood Picks Up Dean’s Baton: One streak ends, one continues for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. On Thursday night Austin Dean saw his Southern League- best 11 game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-3 game despite driving in Jacksonville’s lone run with an RBI groundout in the eighth inning. During his streak, he hit .550 (22-for-40) with seven runs batted in and five doubles, and seven of the 11 games were multi-hit games. While Dean’s streak is over, John Norwood now has the longest hitting streak on the Jumbo Shrimp, having hit safely in his last nine games, hitting .308 (12-for-39) with three RBI and a home run during his hot stretch at the plate. Brian Schales has the next hottest hitting streak on the team, having hit safely in the last five games (7-for-17). Brigham S.L.
