inFOrMatiOn On hôPitaux universitaires Genève (huG)

Born of a centuries-long tradition of excellence in the sciences and , the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) were established in 1995. The first university hospitals in Switzerland – they comprise nine hospitals and more than 11,000 staff members – they manage a first-class research programme, closely linked to the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva. Their combined fields of expertise ensure their patients privileged access to the latest in technological developments and medical progress. Their technical support centre, one of the most modern in Europe, includes 39 operating rooms, 2 surgical robots and 5 surgical navigation systems, 51 intensive care beds, 13 rooms for angiographies, endoscopies and catheterisations, 43 medical imaging machines (PET- MRI, PET-CT, SPECT-CT, MRI, cyclotron) and 5 radiotherapy devices. Each year, the HUG devote more than CHF 20 million to the updating of their equipment. The hospitals’ private sector, which was fully renovated at the end of 2011, combines expertise and comfort.

Situated in the heart of Europe, Geneva, known as the world’s smallest metropolis, is also considered as the world capital of health. The World Health Organization (WHO) has its headquarters in Geneva, as do dozens of other international and non-governmental organizations, along with many large multinational industrial groups which are active in the health sector. This unique combination of financial capital, an ultra-qualified workforce and first-class research makes Geneva a worldwide magnet for biotechnology, the life sciences and cutting-edge medicine. With an international airport at its disposal, it offers city life on a very human scale. Nestled between Lake Geneva and the mountains, Geneva guarantees you a pleasant stay.

The Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (BFM), French for "Power plant building", was the power house of a former hydro power plant and waterworks in Geneva called Usine des Forces Motrices. It was created between 1883 and 1892 to exploit the flow of the river to provide water pressure to feed the city's water supply and a hydraulic power network. The structure lost its original function as a power source in 1963, but it nevertheless continued to house pumping equipment to service Geneva's drinking water supply until 1988. Towards the end of the twentieth century the BFM was converted into an entertainment venue, reopening in 1997 as an opera house/concert hall designed by the architect Bernard Picenni in association with the acoustician Peutz and the scenographer dUCKS scéno.

12:30-13:30 2nd International Poster Competition on Organ Donation: Award Ceremony and Exhibition - Room 4 The exhibition will consist of first 100 poster designs which will be evaluated by Jury according to the competition rules and purpose. Regulatory Authority is authorized to decrease this number if it is needed. Organized by:

COMPETITION BACKGROUND The Dumlupınar University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Departments of Visual Communication Design which has hosted many artistic activities of Turkey in national and international areas realized the 1st International Organ Donation Poster Competition in 2015 with the Turkish Transplant Foundation. Successful designers and artists from all over the world have shown the importance of organ donation with the artistic works they have prepared. The competition has been the first in the world with this theme. A catalogue of the work which was created after the competition, has been distributed to thousands of foreign participants in scientific events organized within the scope of the International Transplant Network (ITN) Project coordinated by the Turkish Transplant Foundation. The feedback from the competition has shown that similar projects should be continued in order to “increase public awareness on organ donation since it is a global issue”. The 2nd International Organ Donation Poster Competition is a continuation of the project started with the Turkish Transplant Foundation. The competition aims to raise public awareness of organ donation at the international level and to provide the opportunity for more patients to return to life after transplantation. The exhibition will consist of the first 100 poster designs, which will be evaluated by a jury according to the competition rules and purpose. The poster designs will be displayed for all to view on Level 1 of CICG. The Awards Ceremony will be held on September 7 from 12:30 to 13:00 followed by a reception on Level 1.
