Moonbot Studios: a Lunar Adventure in Louisiana
MOONBOT STUDIOS: A LUNAR ADVENTURE IN LOUISIANA Timothy D. Wise, Southern Arkansas University March 5, 2012 was a big day in Shreveport, Louisiana. Confetti flew and a brass band played as a parade made its way down Texas Street. Bill Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, the creative partners in charge of Moonbot Studios, rode in convertibles and held their Oscar statues high. Managing Partner Lampton Enochs and Trish Farnsworth-Smith, the studio’s head of production, rode behind them. The Byrd High School marching band played a special arrangement of “Pop Goes the Weasel,” and Moonbot’s artists, animators, programmers, and administrative staff tossed Moonpies to the crowd from their cars and floats.1 In May, 2011, Moonbot Studios of Shreveport, Louisiana, released its first project, an animated short called The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore on Apple’s iTunes Store. By July, partly in response to an article in Fast Company, sales of the film had skyrocketed to the top of iTune’s charts. By Wednesday, July 14, the Morris Lessmore film short was the top selling film on iTunes. The New York Times declared the iPad App, created in collaboration with Twin Engine Labs, another Shreveport start-up2 to be “The best...a visually stunning bit of work with entertaining interactive features.”3 MSNBC.com’s Gadgetbox declared the app, “a must-have interactive book.”4 The beginning of 2012 brought even more excitement. At the end of January, the Moonbots discovered that Morris Lessmore had been nominated for an Academy Award for best animated short. At the studio, the Moonbot creative team was ecstatic.

This comes with a magnificent account of the year’s exhibitions in Stockbridge and across the nation, educational and community programs, scholarship to advance illustration art, and curatorial achievements. This remarkable Museum does all of this and more, inspired by the values Norman Rockwell depicted in his iconic paintings. His works portray freedom, tolerance, humanity and kindness, integrity, honesty, and authenticity along with a joyfulness and celebration of life. These values inspire our visitors and staff alike. The Museum concluded its fiscal year on June 30, 2012 in a strong position. As noted a year ago, we eliminated our long-term debt. This year we are pleased to report that we have no short-term Norman Rockwell Museum President Anne Morgan borrowing on our balance sheet. Annual attendance at the Museum has generated good revenue, and and Chairman Thomas we saw nationwide interest and attendance grow for our traveling exhibition program as well. L. Pulling. The animated result isn't bad. It's an adequate baby sitter. But where's the allure in telling the truth? Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios present "Adequate"? A few days after seeing "Epic," which is loosely based on a few concepts in William Joyce's book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs," it's difficult to keep its story and characters, or even its visual design, in your mind's eye, in part because the five credited screenwriters overload the narrative with incident and threatening complication. Day-old ("Ice Age") or fresh ("Ratatouille"), globally successful animated features tend to invite simple description. Mammoth family and pals want to survive. Rat wants to become a gourmet chef. "Epic"? Cum a devenit William Joyce scriitor? William Edward Joyce s-a născut la 11 decembrie 1957, în localitatea Shreveport, Louisiana, din Statele Unite ale Americii. Locuind într-un orășel din sudul Statelor Unite, accesul la carte i-a fost limitat, singura bibliotecă din împrejurimi funcționând într-o cabană aflată în pădure, într-o zonă îndepărtată.
