Bolig The advent of this online discography is a continuation of record descriptions that were compiled by me and published in book form by Allan Sutton, the publisher and owner of Mainspring Press. When undertaking our work, Allan and I were aware of the work started by Ted Fa- gan and Bill Moran, in which they intended to account for every recording made by the Victor Talking Machine Company. We decided to take on what we believed was a more practical approach, one that best met the needs of record collectors. Simply stat- ed, Fagan and Moran were describing recordings that were not necessarily published; I believed record collectors were interested in records that were actually available. We decided to account for records found in Victor catalogs, ones that were purchased and found in homes after 1901 as 78rpm discs, many of which have become highly sought- after collector’s items. Knott's Berry Farm
Knott's Berry Farm Yes, it did all begin with a farm. Back in 1920, Walter and Cordelia Knott came to Buena Park and started a small, 20 acre berry farm. It became Knott's Berry Place in 1928 when they built a permanent building to serve as a berry stand and tea room. Despite some success in the propagation of the boysenberry, money got tight as the depression hit and they needed another source of income, so, in 1934 Cordelia reluctantly began serving chicken dinners in the tea room on her own wedding china. The chicken was a hit. By 1937 they built a full-fledged restaurant, and soon they had thousands of customers lining up to get in -- so many that Walter began to look around for some way of keeping them entertained while they waited. In 1940 he moved the Old Trails Hotel to the Farm from Prescott, Arizona -- the first of many old buildings that he would relocate or replicate to form his own ghost town. He added "The Covered Wagon Show," a cyclorama, to the hotel's lobby and the farm had its first themed attraction. In the 1950's more buildings and more shows were added to what was now known as Knott's Berry Farm. In 1952 Walter bought the entire the Denver and Rio Grande railroad and moved it to the farm where it was reborn as the Ghost Town & Calico Railroad, the park's first ride. Since then the park has continued to grow, developing into one of the world's premier theme parks (Knott's Berry Farm won the Amusement Business/Liseberg Applause Award in 1988, only the fourth park so honored.) After the deaths of Cordelia and Walter the Knott family carried on as managers until 1997, when the park was acquired by Cedar Fair, L.P., which has continued to expand and improve the park. -

“The Greatest Gift Is the Realization That Life Does Not Consist Either In
“The greatest gift is the realization that life does not consist either in wallowing in the past or peering anxiously into the future; and it is appalling to contemplate the great number of often painful steps by which ones arrives at a truth so old, so obvious, and so frequently expressed. It is good for one to appreciate that life is now. Whatever it offers, little or much, life is now –this day-this hour.” Charles Macomb Flandrau Ernest Hemingway drank here. Cuban revolutionaries Fidel Castro and Che Guevera drank here. A longhaired young hippie musician named Jimmy Buffett drank and performed here, too. From the 1930’s through today this rustic dive bar has seen more than its share of the famous and the infamous. It’s a little joint called Capt. Tony’s in Key West, Florida. Eighty-seven-year-old Anthony ‘Capt. Tony’ Tarracino has been the owner and proprietor of this boozy establishment since 1959. It seems Tony, as a young mobster, got himself into some serious trouble with ‘the family’ back in New Jersey and needed to lay low for a while. In those days, the mosquito invested ‘keys’ (or islands) on the southernmost end of Florida’s coastline was a fine place for wise guys on the lam to hide out. And this was well before the tee-shirt shops, restaurants, bars, art galleries, charming B&B’s and quaint hotels turned Key West into a serious year-round tourist destination. Sure, there were some ‘artsy’ types like Hemingway and Tennessee Williams living in Key West during the late 50’s when Tony bought the bar, but it was a seaside shanty town where muscular hard-working men in shrimp boats and cutters fished all day for a living.
