Ninety-Eighth Commencement Ninety-Eighth Commencement May 27, 2021 Bishop Noll Fieldhouse Hammond, Indiana Principal’s Greeting Dear Class of 2021, This year has easily been the most difficult year of our lifetime. We have been plagued by the COVID-19 virus, restrictions with social distancing, restrictions for masking, quarantine and isolation. This year has forced us to be alone and observe the school year through millions of emails, hundreds of Zooms, and all through a screen. You have endured graduating high school during a global pandemic that has taken the lives of over half a million Americans. When the year started, none of us knew how long school would remain open, what school would look like, or what challenges we would face. Through all of this you as a senior class were unsure of what to expect. Yet on the morning of August 12, you draped yourself in your BNI uniform, grabbed your bookbag, placed a mask on your face and entered the doors of what felt like a battle to graduation! This battle didn’t come without sacrifices. As a class you sacrificed Homecoming, games, events, and more for the health of others. You sacrificed activities you wanted and looked forward to. You sacrificed time with your classmates in an effort to support your neighbors and community. Although you have sacrificed a lot this year you’ve also gained so much as young adults. You learned the value of giving of yourself for others. You’ve realized the importance of family time and cherishing those you love. You’ve learned how to find balance and how important it is to keep a pulse on your mental wellness. You’ve learned how to manage disappointment. As a Warrior you learned how to fight through these challenges and persevere in the classroom, on the court, on the stage and throughout our community. As seniors you set the tone for the building. You all respected the rules and worked toward making this the best year we could given the circumstances. Although this year may have felt ‘unfair’ as a class you still managed to attend outdoor lunches, petting zoos, outdoor movies, field day, prom, and today commencement. As your principal the only words I can speak today are about how proud I am of you! All of you could have waved the white flag in defeat, but instead you kept your focus, met the demands of your education and preserved. Your struggles this year did not go unnoticed, your determination to succeed was seen, you have fought the good fight and today you are victorious as you draped on your gown and grabbed your graduation cap. I admire your hard work, determination and grit. Class of 2021, remember you “can endure all things through the power of the one who gives you strength.” This year was hard but through your commitment to your education and through the grace and support of our Lord, you are here. As you approach the stage this year you will come battered and wounded, but this year - more than any other year - you can stand proud with your fellow Warriors as you have just won the battle of 2021! I love you and am so proud of you! God Bless you today, tomorrow and always, Lorenza Jara Pastrick Principal Program Opening Prayer. .Stacia Bolakowski Campus Minister Opening Remarks.
