Corresponding author: [email protected] Abstract New distribution record of Scapexocentrus philipinus (Vives, 2020) with remarks of the female specimen previously not recorded in the original description is presented. Keywords: Beetle, biodiversity, distribution, longhorn, woodborer. Introduction The genus Scapexocentrus, Breuning, 1965 was established by Breuning in 1965 under subfamily Lamiinae, tribe Acanthocinini Blanchard, 1845 with the type species Scapexocentrus spiniscapus Breuning, 1965. This genus is distinct with the following characters, antennal tubercles far from each other and barely protruding, scapus presenting a spine in the apical part, pronotum presenting stronger curvature on each side, a posteriorly oriented, lateral spine, eyes coarsely faceted and slightly protruding, elytron rounded at the apex, femora strongly dilated at the middle, and divaricate claws (Breuning, 1965; Vives, 2020). Currently, this oriental genus includes two species Scapexocentrus spiniscapus Breuning, 1965, and Scapexocentrus philipinus Vives, 2020. Recent scientific expeditions led by the University of Mindanao Coleoptera Research Center (UMCRC) allowed the collection of three specimens of S. philipinus. These specimens are of primary importance being the first records of the taxon on the island. Materials and methods A field survey was conducted in Mt. Talomo [7° 02' 06.6"N, 125° 19' 43.7"E] and Catigan, Toril [7° 00' 17.1"N, 125° 24' 41.4"E] in April 2019. Opportunistic sampling was performed in all possible Cerambycidae habitats using insect nets, and handpicking, during the daytime, and light trapping during nighttime. The collected specimens were killed using ethyl acetate and stored temporarily in 75% alcohol. Materials were dried, mounted, and are now at the UMCRC. Species identification was verified and confirmed by Eduard Vives. The specimens were photographed using Canon EOS 6D camera, stacked, and later edited through licensed Adobe Photoshop 2021 v.22.0.1.73. The female species, however, looks very similar to the male except on the absence of the spine at the apex of its scapus, shorter but wider spine on the lateral side of the pronotum, longer body (9.0 mm) and shorter width between the humeri (4.0 mm), and elytral coloration and markings appear to be lighter than that of the males. Discussion This record demonstrates how poorly we know the biodiversity of the Philippines, especially for majority of the beetle fauna in Mindanao Island. Despite the new records, almost nothing is known about S. philipinus and information regarding its feeding, host plant, and ecological importance is yet to be understood. Fulfilling this initiative will eventually make its ecological and economic importance clearer to science by providing a substantial data to support species conservation (Kariyanna et al., 2017). It is of utmost importance to expand scientific expeditions specifically in unexplored areas to have a better view on the extent of distribution of this genus in the Philippines. ZooKeys 911: 113–137. https://doi.org/10.3897/zookeys.911.48684 Abstract Aurivillius’s work entitled “Neue oder wenig bekannte Coleoptera Longicornia” was published in parts over a period of over four decades. There were two page numbers on most pages of these publications, one ordered by Aurivillius, the other by the journal. Historically, different authors have used different page numbers, and sometimes different years for these publications, which has caused chaos in the citations. Herein, accurate dates of publications for this work, and correct page numbers that should be used are provided and discussed. Keywords Correction, misunderstanding, publication date, reference, years of submission, Zoological Record Introduction Christopher Aurivillius (1853–1928) was a very important Swedish entomologist, who published 67 references regarding Cerambycidae from 1886 to 1929 (Tavakilian and Chevillotte 2019).

All genus-group names, including synonyms and subgenera, are given with their type species. All species-group names and synonyms, specify their original genus. For each species and subspecies from Borneo, their extralimital distributions are included, if applicable. Citations are presented for each name. References for identification keys and illustrations are cited, if available. Complete bibliographies for all cited references are given. There are no proposed changes to nomenclature. Comments about biogeography and taxonomic problems are given. Species that are excluded from the Bornean fauna are listed. An index is included for all genus-group names. Longhorned beetles include the family Cerambycidae, although some taxonomists treat certain subfamilies as families. In this catalog, the work of Lawrence and Newton (1995) is followed which recognizes thirteen subfamilies in the world: Oxypeltinae, Disteniinae, Philinae, Anoplodermatinae, Parandrinae, Prioninae, Spondylidinae, Vesperinae, Apatophyseinae, Necydalinae, Lepturinae, Cerambycinae and Lamiinae. There has been, and certainly will always be disagreement on the number and relationships of these subfamilies.

  • A Catalog and Bibliography of Longhorned Beetles from Borneo (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae, Disteniidae and Vesperidae)
A Catalog and Bibliography of Longhorned Beetles from Borneo (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae, Disteniidae and Vesperidae) Electronic Version, 2013.1 by Daniel J. Heffern Abstract A catalog and bibliography are presented for the longhorned beetles of Borneo. All genus-group names (including subgenera and synonyms) and species-group names (including synonyms) of taxa known from Borneo are summarized. The type species for each genus-group name is specified with the method by which its type species was designated. Species-group names include the name of the genus used in the original description. The full distribution of each species or subspecies which occurs in Borneo is included. Citations of original descriptions and bibliographies are provided for all taxa. Species which have been incorrectly recorded from Borneo are listed. Introduction In recent years, taxonomists have separated longhorned beetles into three families: the Cerambycidae, Disteniidae and Vesperidae. These beetles are popular with collectors, entomologists, and naturalists, for many reasons including their striking appearance, diversity, relationship with host plants and interaction with other species, including mimetic behavior. Borneo, which has not been heavily collected, still contains many species that are undescribed or difficult to identify. In the past 20 years, Mr. Steven Bosuang has provided many specimens of all Coleoptera to the scientific community which has resulted in dozens of publications concerning the fauna of Northern Borneo. The purpose of this catalog is to present a consolidated list of all known longhorned beetles from Borneo. Some unpublished records are included, mostly from the collection of the author, which have been identified by the author or other specialists.
