Clubs and restaurants closed per executive order by Governeur Ron DeSantis within a few days. The magazine received a lot of cancelations. Restaurants whose ads were done and were willing to bat- tle the storm with less customers completely shut down. We followed their requests not to advertise their closed venues. What was left were 32 pages of articles and few advertisement. The King Center postponed a lot of the concerts in their ad. Please check their website. Victory Casino announced to be sailing again on April 1st, that ended up being an unintentional April fools joke. You will find updates on their Facebook page. All other advertise- ment should be correct. In these uncertain times, please call or visit websites to get the latest updates. We do not know when we can produce another print magazine as we need the support of our advertisers. But we will be back as soon as the pandemic is over and business has picked up. • The Roots Report: Please Take a Seat
The Roots Report: Please Take a Seat Okee dokee folks… This is a public service announcement for those who attend concerts. There are these things that theaters have installed and they are called SEATS. They are used to SIT in, relax and enjoy the performances. It seems as though quite a few people have a hard time comprehending how to properly utilize these strange padded devices. When you purchase a concert ticket you are assigned a SEAT. This is not to be used as an area for your interpretive dance number during the show, it is meant to SIT in. I get it, the music moves you, and that is fine and dandy, but common courtesy should come before all else. You are not transparent; you block the view of people behind you. Please do your groovin’ seated. You may not want to give a lap dance to the furniture and your writhing may appear like you have a bad case of hemorrhoids, but standing up in an area meant to sit is just plain RUDE. Folks spend good money on tickets to enjoy a show. If you do feel the need to stand, PLEASE go to the back of the room. I was at a show recently and the guy behind me was standing, as were the folks in front of me. I was sitting because I just wanted to relax and listen to the music. The guy behind me was dancing and holding a beer in one of those flimsy plastic cups. As if that wasn’t a precarious enough situation, his choreography included arm moves that had his beer waving over my head.

Phil Upchurch 1 A prolific guitarist whose distinctively funky, blues-steeped jazz style has graced well over a thousand recordings across the popular music spectrum, the legendary Phil Upchurch has also recorded 27 albums of his own leadership, as well as movie soundtracks. In developing his sound, Phil demonstrates no allegiance to any of his contemporaries and is indisputably one of the best in his field. In honor of Upchurch’s instrumental mastery, D’Angelico Guitars is soon to release a Second Edition of his signature Phil Upchurch Guitar. Adding to his media profile is Phil’s newfound second career as a fresh face for television advertising. Phil's most recent on-camera commercials have been Secured Horizon, "AARP," Tropicana and Verizon Wireless. He also has had, Cameo filmappearances in, “His Eyes Are Watching God” and White Men Can’t Jump” to name a few. Phil Upchurch has been a prominent figure in the blues, soul, R&B and jazz circles for more than 50 years. In addition to his work with the legendary Jimmy Smith, Upchurch has performed and recorded, in the United States and internationally, with some of the music industry’s biggest names. It all began when Alfred Lion went to the ‘Spirituals to Swing’ concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall a few days before Christmas 1938. A week or so later he went to Café Society, a newly opened club, to talk to Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis, who had seen them play at Carnegie Hall.
