For many of us, Connecticut Coronation was the last time we “saw” each other. To be honest, when Covid hit, I thought Coronation 2021 would be the first ball when we would all be able to come back together. But alas I was mistaken and with every appendage crossed, I hope we will with a renewed sense of hope. I think I see a light at the end be able to in 2022. Nothing tests the mettle of a person more than being a figure head in a crises. Like walking in an earthquake, every step shaky Wand uncertain. You show yourself, and you grow yourself. I learned a lot about myself, and so did many others. In the bigger picture, our talents were not wasted, and we have ac- complished much. No one reigns alone, it’s always a group effort. Every emperor has his empress, and Talluleh has been wonderful to reign with. Hopefully next year we will get to travel together. Bryce and Joshua have been amazingly supportive through- out the reign, always ready to step in, or think of new ideas to run events. During my reign, Trevor served as board president and as my half, his kindness and patience with me were a bless- ing during all this stress. You and the rest of the board did a phenomenal job quickly adjusting to the new reality in mid- March. The board, the membership, all of us came together quickly to re-align all of our meetings and shows to be virtual. I also wanted to give a shout out to Joshua for coming up with streamyard subscription idea, because of you Josh, all the courts in the North East use Streamyard now. And a shout out to Miss Frank, for running all of our membership meetings so well and organizing our event forms, even through this challenging year. And a special thankyou, as some of you know, Miss Frank has basically filled in as my ICP this reign, I really couldn’t have done it without her support. I also want to congratulate her and Vu To my Drag Moms Cassandra Fiore, Gaye Banter, and for being elected as the new monarchs! GÖTZ VON BERLICHINGEN: SOLDIER, ENTREPRENEUR, RACONTEUR by Bradley M. Fansher A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts in History Thesis Committee: Dr. Suzanne Sutherland, Chair Dr. Molly Taylor-Poleskey Middle Tennessee State University August 2020 ABSTRACT This thesis is a study of the life and times of Götz von Berlichingen (1480-1562), a German nobleman known for his iron fist and his legendary feuds. It argues that three identities defined Götz: a soldier, an entrepreneur, and a raconteur. The different layers of Götz’s identity emerged in response to the challenges in his life that sprang from the changes of the sixteenth century. These changes included the growth of the state, the decline of the nobility, the divisiveness of the Reformation, and the advent of a world view based on measurement. Despite some costly missteps, Götz responded well to new circumstances, so that by the end of his life he was more prosperous than many of his noble peers. Through a close reading of Götz’s autobiography, a social network analysis, and a comparative spatial study, the thesis elucidates the means of and the mentality behind Götz’s success. ii TABLE OF CONTENTS INTRODUCTION............................................................................................................. 1 Historiography ................................................................................................................. 5 Sources, Methods, Structure ........................................................................................
