SMGW is the large object and library & archives store for the SMG. The site is not open for public access, though research visits can be arranged to use the library & archive facilities, or to view the stored collection, by appointment. The new building will be a fit-for-purpose facility that will house and manage the SMG collection and accommodate managed public visits, support object conservation work and provide staff facilities. The building will utilise the existing vehicular access to the site and its functions will also be supported by the existing SMG operational buildings on the wider site. The information in this statement includes a description of the proposed facility and development site, an analysis of the design approach and application drawing extracts showing the location of the facility and it’s layout. Supporting documentation will be included with this application comprising - • Sustainability Statement • Planning Statement • Statement of Community Engagement • Environmental Statement • Environmental Statement Non-Technical Summary • Ecological Impact Assessment • Transport Statement • Flood Risk Assessment • Desk Top Land Contamination Assessment • Earthworks Strategy • Infrastructure Statement • Drainage Strategy • External Lighting Assessment © gwparchitecture 2017 www.gwp-arch.com [email protected] Section 2.0 The Site SMG BUILDING ONE | DESIGN & ACCESS STATEMENT DESIGN & ACCESS STATEMENT | PAGE 8 SCIENCE MUSEUM GROUP - BUILDING ONE 2.1 SITE LOCATION Swindon Wroughton Overtown Newbury Aerial View Extract from Science Museum Group One Collection Facility Client Technical Brief - Dated August 2017 Aerial view of solar farm View of buildings A1, D4, D3 Building A1 Building D4 Motor Vehicle collection in Building D3 © gwparchitecture 2017 www.gwp-arch.com [email protected] 49 Posts Ponds Tank Pond Path Elm Rise Spring 4 6 Ailsa C 59 Bethen 0 Dr 7 r ain aig 66 The Ivery y 6 1 a 6 6 1 6 7 2 SNAPPS CLOSE Reservoir 8 137.2m 1 Elcombe Hall 78 ESS 9 6 y 82 9 y-b 6 La 142.6m a Windshot 3 7 4 361 8 A 4 P ath (um) 0 161.5m 9 Markham Hill Adit 7 3a ack r Track Pond T 75 2 9 4 Path (um) 9 Sinks 77 Issues 157.9m Issues Spreads Issues Issues Elcombe ath (um) P 9 7 Pond The 7 Lodge 8 163.4m 5 8 P ath (um) O 164.9m VER T O Issues W N HIL 159.4m Adit Pa th (um) DESIGN & ACCESS STATEMENT | PAGESluice 9 L SCIENCE MUSEUM GROUP - BUILDING ONE Pond PRIOR'S HILL ath (um) P 172.5m Adit ath (um) P ain Issues Dr 49 Posts Dr 2.2 SITE LOCATION PLAN Ponds Tank ain LB Pond MS Path Elm Rise Spring 4 6 Ailsa Cr 59 Bethen Dr 70 ain aig 66 The Ivery Coombe Bottom y 1 6 key a 6 6 Path (um) 1 6 7 2 SNAPPS CLOSE Reservoir 8 137.2m 1 181.1m 186.2m Path (um) Elcombe Hall 78 ESS 9 6 application site boundary Shaft y 82 Pump 6 a y-b 9 La House 142.6m Windshot 3 7 4 Stables 8 Reservoir 12a A 4361 12 P th (um) (covered) a 0 Issues 161.5m 9 Markham Hill Adit 73a site ownership boundary Overtown ack r Track Pond T Manor Path (um) 75 Lay-by 2 9 4 Path (um) 9 Sinks 77 Issues 157.9m PROJECT LOCATION Issues Spreads Springs 187.1m Issues Issues Elcombe ath (um) P 7 Pond The Engine Shed 9 Lodge 8 Clouts Wood 7 163.4m 8 5 P a O th ( 164.9m VER The facility will be located in the northern section um) White House 201.2m T O kham Hill Cottages Issues W Langton Park (Stables) N H Mar 159.4m Adit 1 P ath (um) I 2 LL Sluice T r k c Pond a HILL 'S RIOR 183.2m P Spring ath (um) P of SMGW.
