₪ Call for Expressions of Interest – Professional Development Workshops Mackay Regional Council would like to provide a series of professional development workshops for artists and arts and cultural organisations across the region. The dates for these workshops are yet to be confirmed however it is likely to be happening from August 2008 onwards. We are currently seeking expressions of interest from people wanting to participate. The proposed workshops will include:

• Grant Writing and Project Development; • Oral History Collection and Management; • Strengthening Business Arts Partnerships.

☼ Boundless: Artists’ Books from the Mackay Regional Council Collection / Until November 2008 Since Mackay City Library began purchasing Australian and international artists’ books in 1995, Mackay Regional Council’s collection has continued to grow, and is now considered to be one of ’s most significant. In addition to providing a snapshot of highlights from this collection of artists’ books, the 60 works selected for display in Boundless exemplify the diversity and inventiveness of a growing number of artists exploring this artform, one that consistently confounds and defies simple definition. NEW ☼ ABC Radio National: Marvellous Museums Awards / Closes 20 June, 5pm ABC Radio National has invited regional museums around Australia to enter the inaugural Marvellous Regional Museums Award. The museum that is judged the overall winner will have an ABC Radio National program broadcast from their location, wherever that might be in Australia. In addition, they will honour an Indigenous Cultural Centre / Keeping Place with an Awaye! program focusing on the winner's site. NEW ☼ Call for Proposals: Experimentopia / Applications close Friday 25 July 2008. Works to be completed by 1 May 2009. Experimentopia is the theme of Experimenta's next International Biennial of Media Arts in 2009. Experimenta will be commissioning new works for up to $6,000 each to be included in the exhibition of exceptional Australian and international media artworks. Successful proposals for the commissions will respond to the exhibition theme, engage audiences, use technology creatively, and can be audio/visual, installation, or object-based. Preference will be given to proposals for interactive works. Experimenta is inviting artists to create media artworks that allow audiences to engage with, act out, inhabit and experience utopic / dystopic scenarios and environments. ☼ Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize 2008 / Entry Form Due Friday 25 July 2008 The Tattersall’s Landscape Art Prize is one of Australia’s most lucrative Landscape Art Prizes. The Arts Prize is acquisitive. The winning entry will receive: $20,000; Highly commended: two business class airfares to Europe sponsored by Emirates; and Members Choice: $5,000 gift voucher for Hardy Brothers Jewellers.

The artist is required to submit a painting relating only to the landscape theme which refers to any aspect of landscape executed in traditional or contemporary painting style and may include figures in landscape. There MUST be an element in the painting that refers to land. Only one entry per artist. An entry fee of $44 is required to be forwarded with the entry form by Friday 25 July. Artists are requested to submit an image of their painting either electronically (JPEG ONLY), or by CD, disk or photographic print and must be received by Art Promotions Queensland no later than Friday 8 August 2008.

☼ Jada 2008 – Entries open for Australia’s richest regional drawing award / Entries close 4pm Friday 1 August 2008. Entries in the 2008 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award is open to all artists who are residents of Australia who can submit up to two drawings. In 2008 the award celebrates 20 years of promoting innovation and excellence in Australian drawing and has increased to $30, 000 to coincide with this important anniversary. The major award of $15,000 is acquisitive, along with further acquisitions to the value of $15,000. ☼ Smithsonian Fellowship Program / Applications close 5pm Friday 1 August 2008. The Program provides Fellowships each year to enable Queenslanders to undertake research projects at the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum complex and research organisation. The Program seeks to foster an interchange of knowledge and skills between Queensland organisations and the Smithsonian and supports the Queensland Government's Smart State Strategy through the development of international alliances and networks. Up to three Fellowships will be awarded in 2008. The duration of a Fellowship is for a maximum of 26 weeks and a minimum of 13 weeks with a maximum award of $30,000. Applications are open to Queenslanders working in any area of mutual interest with the Smithsonian, including evolutionary, systemic, behavioural and environmental biology; biodiversity, conservation and climate change; earth, mineral and planetary sciences; astrophysics; anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and indigenous and cross-cultural studies; material and folk culture; science and technology; art, design and crafts; materials conservation; and museum practice, education and outreach. ☼ Far North Queensland Contractor for Creative Production Hubs in Queensland / Offer Closes: Thursday 21 September 2008, 2pm. Arts Queensland invites proposals from suitably qualified contractors to undertake planning, regional research, consultation and project development in the Far North Queensland area to contribute to the development of Creative Production Hubs in Queensland.

This project will investigate the potential for producer hubs that can act as an interface between creators and presenters, servicing independent / small group artists in all areas of their work: networking, audience development, tour coordination, audience development, administrative, production and marketing, thus enabling the artists to focus on the creative side of their work.

The successful contractor will need to demonstrate: • Track record and knowledge on performing arts producing and touring: particularly in the independent and small to medium sectors. • Significant networks and contacts across relevant and appropriate stakeholders in north and far north Queensland • Superior writing, analytical and communication skills • Ability to complete project within mutually agreed timeframe and budget

☼ Club Development Program / Applications Close 27 June 2008 The Club Development Program provides funding to eligible organisations to undertake education and training initiatives, participation initiatives and organisational planning and to recognise volunteer support. Eligible organisations can apply for up to $4,000 (GST Exc) towards project costs, or $5,000 (GST Exc) if located in a rural or regional area (please see guidelines for a full list). You can apply for funding under one category or across multiple categories. Projects must have a minimum total eligible project cost of $500. Key Dates: 1 October 2008 - Start of funding period (projects can commence) / 30 September 2009 - End of funding period (projects must be completed and funds spent). Your contribution must be a minimum of 33% of the total eligible project cost (where applicable) as well as any ineligible costs or cost overruns. The Q150 Community Funding Program is a $4 million grants program open to not-for-profit incorporated community organisations, local councils, schools, and tertiary institutions throughout Queensland. ☼ LAUNCH: Clayton Utz Travelling Scholarship / July & December 2008 LAUNCH consists of two bursaries each totaling $5,000 for artists based in Queensland (or with a close connection to the state) who are building a career in the visual arts in the areas of painting, photography, drawing or wall based practice. The scholarship provides assistance towards professional development and aims to promote audience development. The bursaries will be awarded twice in 2008, one in July and one in December. An exhibition of 25 shortlisted artworks will accompany each of the bursaries. The 25 finalists' artworks will also be featured in a catalogue that will complement the LAUNCH exhibitions held at Metro Arts and Clayton Utz Brisbane. ☼ Visions of Australia / Applications for Round 31 close on 1 September 2008 for projects commencing on or after 2 February 2009. Visions of Australia aims to enable more Australians to enjoy our diverse culture by accessing high-quality exhibitions of cultural material. It provides funding to eligible organisations to develop and tour exhibitions of Australian cultural material across the country, in particular regional and remote areas. Exhibitions should have a predominantly Australian source or theme. All applications must be in the required format and must be received by the advertised closing date. Late applications and applications that are emailed or faxed will not be accepted. Funding is not available for projects that commence before the indicative commencement date. ☼ Indigenous Small Grants / Next Assessment date is 14 October Indigenous Small Grants provides an opportunity for Indigenous organisations and organisations that work with young Indigenous people and communities to support new initiatives or expand existing successful initiatives. Applications will be accepted from non-profit organisations (including local government and schools).
