Quatorze projetos de conservação marinha apresentam espécies ameaçadas no dia internacional da biodiversidade O Dia Internacional da Biodiversidade é celebrado em 22 de maio.NoBrasil, quatorze projetos socioambientais de diversas regiões estão mobilizados numa ação coletiva de mídia em prol da conservação de biomas e espécies de fauna e flora presentes no Brasil, algumas ameaçadas de extinção. A ação #JuntosPelaBiodiversidade acontecerá nas mídias sociais dos projetos Albatroz, Baleia Jubarte, Coral Vivo, Golfinho Rotador, Ilhas do Rio, Mantas do Brasil, Meros do Brasil, Toninhas, Pinípedes do Sul, Ponta de Pirangi, Rebimar, Tamar, Uçá e Viva o Peixe-Boi Marinho. Por meio de vídeos com pesquisadores, cada projeto lançará um convite para outro projeto falar sobre a importância da conservação das espécies no Dia Internacional da Biodiversidade. Os vídeos serão publicados a partir das 8h30. Os projetos engajados na ação #JuntosPelaBiodiversidade são patrocinados pela Petrobras por meio do Programa Petrobras Socioambiental. O Projeto Tamar tem a parceria mais antiga com a empresa, há 36 anos fortalecendo o trabalho de conservação na costa brasileira, contribuindo com o início da recuperação das populações de tartarugas marinhas que ocorrem no Brasil. Para Guy Marcovaldi, oceanógrafo fundador do Projeto Tamar, quanto mais gente souber e apoiar a conservação dos oceanos e das espécies, mais resultados poderá ter o esforço de tantos conservacionistas que trabalham incansavelmente para proteger e pesquisar o mar. “Há mais de 40 anos, quando o Tamar era apenas um embrião, não poderíamos sonhar que tantas pessoas se uniriam para proteger as tartarugas e todos esses bichos do mar. Neste dia internacional da biodiversidade, celebraremos os esforços daqueles que conseguem manter-se firmes na conservação marinha, graças ao apoio da Petrobras”, diz Marcovaldi. -

A list of the marine fishes of the Azores is presented. The list is based on a review of the literature combined with an examination of selected specimens available from collections of Azorean fishes deposited in museums, including the collection of fish at the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores (Horta). Personal information collected over several years is also incorporated. The geographic area considered is the Economic Exclusive Zone of the Azores. The list is organised in Classes, Orders and Families according to Nelson (1994). The scientific names are, for the most part, those used in Fishes of the North-eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean (FNAM) (Whitehead et al. 1989), and they are organised in alphabetical order within the families. Clofnam numbers (see Hureau & Monod 1979) are included for reference. Information is given if the species is not cited for the Azores in FNAM. Whenever available, vernacular names are presented, both in Portuguese (Azorean names) and in English. Synonyms, misspellings and misidentifications found in the literature in reference to the occurrence of species in the Azores are also quoted. The 460 species listed, belong to 142 families; 12 species are cited for the first time for the Azores. -

CALIFORNIA MARINE FISH LANDINGS FOR 1972 LEO PINKAS Marine Resources Region 1.1. INTRODUCTION The protection, propagation, and wise utilization of California's living marine resources (established as common property by statute, Section 1600, Fish and Game Code) is dependent upon the welding of biological, environment- al, economic, and sociological factors. Fundamental to each of these factors, as well as the entire management pro- cess, are harvest records. The California Department of Fish and Game began gathering commercial fisheries land- ing data in 1916. Commercial fish catches were first published in 1929 for the years 1926 and 1927. This report, the 32nd in the landing series, is for the calendar year 1972. It summarizes commercial fishing activities in marine as well as fresh waters and includes the catches of the sportfishing partyboat fleet. Preliminary landing data are published annually in the circular series which also enumerates certain fishery products produced from the catch. -

In addition to a long-term research programme on turtles, tamar has striven to incorporate human and social issues into all of its conservation initiatives by using a wide variety of outreach activities that involve local communities as well as other stakeholders. The involvement of fi shermen, other members of local communities, and other interest groups at differ- ent socio-economic levels has been a successful long-term strategy, with most turtle nesting areas showing signifi cant increases in activity since tamar began its work on the Brazilian coast in 1980. tamar has shown that the use of sea turtles as a fl agship species to spread conservation messages not only to local communities, but also to government, the private sector and non-governmental organisations, through dif- ferent tools, such as educational, media, and public campaigns, is essential for ensur- ing long-term protection of these animals and their habitats. -

The list 24 is based on historical literature records and new revisions. The ichthyofauna list is 25 composed by 397 species very diversified in 2 superclass, 3 class, 35 orders, 139 1 1 families and 288 genus. The order Perciformes is the most diverse one with 37 families, 2 91 genus and 135 species. Gobiidae (19 species) and Sparidae (19 species) are the 3 richest families. Biogeographically, the Lusitanian group includes 203 species (51.1%), 4 followed by 149 species of the Atlantic (37.5%), then 28 of the Boreal (7.1%), and 17 5 of the African (4.3%) groups. We have recognized 41 new records, and 3 other records 6 have been identified as doubtful. -

In marine habitats, 965 species (plus two introduced) are found, with the Labridae, Serranidae and Gobiidae being the largest families; 56.7 % of these species live in shallow coral reefs, 33.7 % inside the fringing reef, 28.0 % in shallow rocky reefs, 16.8 % on sand bottoms, 14.0 % in deep reefs, 11.9 % on the reef flat, and 11.1 % in estuaries. 63 species are first records for Réunion. Zoogeographically, 65 % of the fish fauna have a widespread Indo-Pacific distribution, while only 2.6 % are Mascarene endemics, and 0.7 % Réunion endemics. Programa de Ecoturismo e Educação Ambiental do Projeto TAMAR - Fernando de Noronha: uma análise de 2013 a 2016 Ecotourism and Environmental Education Program of the TAMAR Project - Fernando de Noronha (PE, Brazil): an analysis from 2013 to 2016 Laissa Paloma Queiroz de Lima, Lourival Dutra Neto, Luciana Araújo de Holanda RESUMO: O arquipélago de Fernando de Noronha (PE), formado por ilhas, ilhotas e rochas de origem vulcânica no oceano atlântico sul, tornou um destino turístico de destaque no segmento de Ecoturismo em nível nacional e internacional. Em meio ao processo de turistificação da ilha, o Projeto TAMAR tem desenvolvido, desde 1984, ações de sensibilização ambiental. O Programa de Ecoturismo e Educação Ambiental, por exemplo, traz à tona a problemática de proteção ambiental e busca sensibilizar seus participantes sobre a importância da conservação da biodiversidade, tendo como agente principal as tartarugas-marinhas. O presente artigo se propõe a mensurar e analisar o fluxo de participantes no período de 2013 a 2016, bem como as atividades realizadas no âmbito deste Programa. Para tanto, adotou-se como procedimentos metodológicos a pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e de campo - caracterizada como pesquisa quantitativa de natureza descritiva. Os resultados apontam que, no quadriênio analisado, todas as atividades tiveram incre- mento de público e quase 160.000 pessoas participaram do Programa, no entanto as atividades que tiveram aumento da média mensal de participantes foram aquelas onde o público tem maior interação com o meio ambiente e as tartarugas marinhas.
