It now begins on 29th August and finishes on 20th September. The race will cover 3470km over 21 stages. There are 2 rest days. Last year’s winner was Egan Bernal from Columbia with Geraint Thomas from Wales in second. In 1903, the Tour de France was the creation of Henri Desgranges to promote his newspaper. The winner’s jersey is yellow as this was the colour of the newspaper pages. What do the different coloured jerseys mean? The yellow jersey or maillot jaune is awarded to the leader or winner, the person with the lowest combined overall time across the stages. It's the most prestigious of the jerseys. The yellow jersey contenders don't have to win every stage. As long as the riders ahead of them are behind in the overall standings. The fastest sprinter is awarded the green jersey. Points are given to the first cyclists across the finish in each stage and for intermediate sprints along the way each day. The polka dot jersey is given to the best mountain climber. Points are awarded to riders who get to specific peaks first. The white jersey is awarded to the best young rider under the age of 26.

It has been a challenging few months and whether you are a key worker working all hours, home schooling, working from home or furloughed, it has no doubt been a strange time and hopefully everyone has been finding ways to cope and to stay sane. It has been a very positive message for cycling though with many people choosing it as there one form of exercise per day. Bike shops have never been busier and the turbo training scene has really taken off – see later in the newsletter for the club activities that have taken place on Zwift. The initial takeaways seemed to be that it is a time trial-light affair that will tend to suit the pure climbers, and that its multiple mountain stages will somehow offer bite-sized, endless entertainment for the short-attention-span millennial audience. A closer look suggests that it probably won’t be that simple. The general consensus is that 2020 will be one for the climbers, as the race features a large number of mountain stages with a healthy dose of summit finishes, just one 36-kilometer individual time trial, and only a handful of stages for the sprinters. Also, as in 2019, there will be time bonuses at the finish and on select penultimate climbs. These characteristics seem likely to combine to create a race that will favor riders who can climb with the best, who can handle technical descents, and who can make split-second tactical decisions on the road, particularly in the event of crosswinds. The problem with this narrative is that it doesn’t really take into account two of the most defining trends of the modern grand tour – (1) world-class time trialists slimming down to extremely light weights in order to win grand tours or, more rarely, (2) natural climbers honing their TT craft to the point where they don’t lose significant time in the race against the clock.

    RÈGLEMENT COMPLET DU JEU «Tour de France Fantasy by Tissot» Version Française (English version - page 20) N° 20180625-90356 Article 1- Organisation du Jeu 1.1. Amaury Sport Organisation, société ayant son siège social au 40-42 Quai du Point du Jour, 92100 Boulogne-Billancourt (ci-après « ASO »), organise le Tour de France et détient à ce titre l’exclusivité des droits d’exploitation de la course. A l’occasion du Tour de France 2021 qui se déroulera du 9 juin au 18 juillet 2021, ASO organise un jeu gratuit sans obligation d’achat intitulé « Tour de France Fantasy by Tissot » (ci-après le « Jeu »). 1.2. Le Jeu se déroulera du 9 juin 2021 à 14 heures (UTC +1) au 18 juillet 2021 jusqu’à la 21ème et dernière étape du Tour de France 2021 (date et heure française de connexion, telles qu’enregistrées par le système informatique faisant foi), sur un site internet accessible aux adresses suivantes : velon.cc/tour-de-france-fantasy-game et fantasybytissot.letour.fr ainsi que sur les sites internet des équipes participantes qui hébergent le jeu. Si la fin du Tour de France 2021 venait à être décalée pour quelque raison que ce soit, le Jeu serait alors prolongé jusqu’à la fin de celui-ci. Article 2- Conditions de participation 2.1. Participants 2.1.1. Le Jeu est ouvert (i) à toute personne physique majeure (ii) quelle que soit sa nationalité (ci- après individuellement ou collectivement, le ou les « Participant(s) »). Sont exclues de toute participation au Jeu, toutes les personnes ayant directement ou indirectement participé à l'élaboration du Jeu, les membres du personnel d’ASO, de même que leurs familles en ligne directe.
