Information Sheet – D152 – July 2015 INFORMATION SHEET – D152 – JULY 2015 What is D152? IMRO makes four major distributions for domestic income each year; in April, July, October and December. D152 is the second major domestic distribution for 2015. As a result of IMRO’s increase in the frequency of royalty payments in a number of revenue streams, this distribution relates to the following royalties: . Domestic Radio and Television Broadcasts (January – March 2015) . Tours and Residencies (January – March 2015) . RTE Performing Groups (January – March 2015) . Digital Royalties (October – December 2014) . Live Music Survey (January – March 2015) . Background Music (October – December 2014) . Discos (October – December 2014) . Cinema (January – December 2014) . Heritage (January – December 2014) Basis of Payment Run Information regarding the basis of payment for the above distribution elements can be found in the IMRO Distribution Policies document which is available online at www.imro.ie. A brief synopsis is outlined below. Domestic Radio and Television (including advertising) All TV and Radio stations are paid out on a duration basis. The broadcasting revenue is shared amongst all performances logged and matched (i.e. linked to a work on our repertoire database). Submissions of music logs received too late for inclusion in the distribution are added to the next available broadcast distribution. Unidentified performances may be claimed by members by visiting our Online Unidentified Performance and Commercial Claim facilities, which are available by registering on the IMRO website at www.imro.ie . Please contact Claire Egan or David Wilkinson at [email protected] for assistance with registering on the IMRO website. Sample Rates Stations are categorised either as full census, sampled or mixed. Where a station is sampled, the value paid for each play is correspondingly higher than it would be if the station were subject to a full census. If a station is on a mixed rate this means that they are delivering full census reports for all automated programming (i.e. where music is played out using an automated/play-out system) and are on a sample rate for all programming not delivered via an automated system (i.e. incorporating specialist programming). As it would not be economically viable to collect and process logs from Community radio stations, the small amount of revenue received from these stations is distributed as part of the RTÉ Radio 1 and 2FM pools. Tours and Residencies IMRO receives submissions from our members and affiliated societies informing us of gigs and residencies throughout the country. The Tours and Residencies payment relates to those submissions. As Tours and Residencies are distributed four times a year, we encourage you to regularly submit your live performance details and set lists online via the member’s area of www.imro.ie so that you do not miss the submission deadlines. The submission deadlines for the Tours and Residencies Scheme are as follows: Performances Period Submission Deadline IMRO Distribution January – March Mid-May July April – June Mid-August October July – September Mid-October December October – December Mid-February April RTE Performing Groups The RTÉ Performing Groups is comprised of the following: RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, RTÉ Contempo Quartet and RTÉ Cór na nÓg. Live Music Survey The Live Music Survey is an extensive survey of live music in bars and hotels throughout the country. IMRO uses an independent agency to conduct visits to live music venues and to report back to IMRO the actual music being played. Recorded background music Recorded background music pools are distributed on the basis of analogies. Rather than distributing on the basis of actual surveys of recorded music use throughout the country, IMRO uses a selection of record sales charts and radio station logs that best reflects the music being used and the amount of usage. Discos Revenue collected from commercial discos is distributed on the basis of an analogy selected from charts (including popular and dance) and various radio station broadcasts. Hotel Dances Hotel Dances are distributed on the basis of an analogy selected from various radio station broadcasts. Online (Ringtones/ Downloads/Streaming) In this distribution, IMRO is distributing revenue received from the following online providers: . UPC (October – December 2014) . iTunes Movies (October – December 2014) Cinema/Heritage Mainstream cinema royalties are distributed on the basis of box office figures returned by Rentrak EDI. Arthouse cinema royalties are distributed on the basis of performance logs returned by the IFI. Cinema advertising royalties are distributed on the basis of advertising logs provided by Carlton Screen Advertising. This distribution also includes Heritage Centre payments for 2014. • Communicorp Media January 2021 Executive Summary
Submission to the Future of Media Commission By Communicorp Media January 2021 Executive Summary Communicorp Media reaches 1.75 million weekly listeners and has a significant online, digital, and social audience. Independent Radio has 2.5 million listeners daily, close to double the daily reach of RTÉ Radio. Communicorp Media and Independent Radio have 800,000 more listeners aged Under 45 than RTÉ Radio and are vitally important in reaching a younger audience. 376,000 people listen to Communicorp Media radio stations only. Communicorp Media provides more than 12,000 hours of Public Service Content a year. Public Service Broadcasting is about the content broadcast rather than the ownership of the broadcaster. RTÉ is not the only provider of Public Service Broadcasting. Radio scored a trust rating of 79% in a recent IPSOS MRBI poll. This compares to 29% for Facebook and 34% for Twitter, showing radio’s importance in an era where fake news is prevalent. 70% of daily radio listening is to a non RTÉ service. This shows content on Independent Radio has a distinct public value. Digital now accounts for 54% of all advertising spend in Ireland with Google and Facebook controlling 40% of the market. Radio advertising spend is down nearly 30% in the last ten years. Submission to the Future of Media Commission By Communicorp Media - January 2021 Page 2 The funding of journalism on Irish radio is crucially important and must be supported, otherwise the dominance of global digital players in the advertising market will have an effect on the quality of journalism produced.

  • Terms & Definitions Used in the Reports
Terms & Definitions Used In The Reports REACH (Average Weekday Yesterday Listenership) ° Reach is about PEOPLE. ° The size of audience “reached” by radio in general (Any Radio) or by a specific station. This question measures the number of people who have an “opportunity to hear” an ad on a radio station. ° Reach can also be described as = the number of people who listened/tuned into a station yesterday (average day). It doesn’t matter if they tuned in for 2 minutes or for 2 hours – everyone who listened is counted here. ° Remember: Yesterday = Average Day WEEKLY REACH ° Weekly reach is the sum of “yesterday listening” plus “past week listening”. (It is not based on the sum of 7 days listening as our methodology is not diary based). MARKET SHARE (Minutes Listened). ° Share is about MINUTES – it measures a station’s share of all minutes listened to Irish Commercial Radio. ° If, for example, a respondent listened to two ¼ hour periods, this is calculated as 30 minutes. Each respondent’s listening activity is calculated and added together in this manner, resulting in a TOTAL number of minutes listened per day. ° Station share is then calculated based on the number of minutes listened to Station A vs. Station B. The market share table therefore will always add up to 100%. ° The share analysis is broken out into 3 time periods – share of minutes listened 7am-7pm, 7pm-midnight, and 7am-midnight. ° Market share is a better measure of loyalty as it shows the depth of listening to a station.
