Reddy, Director of Extension attended a work shop on “Strategies and action plans for double digit growth in horticulture sector under ‘Rythu Kosam’ in Andhra Pradesh ”and chaired different sessions on post harvest technology and production of high yielding varieties in fruits & vegetables held from 13-14th No- vember, 2015 at ICRISAT, Patancheru, Hyderabad. Sri.S.K.Tucker, Agricultural Production Commissioner, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh inaugu- rated the workshop as chief guest. Dr. David Bergvinson, Director General, ICRISAT and Sri Chi- ranjeev Choudary, Commissioner of Horticulture, Govt. of AP were the other distinguished guests for the workshop. Dr.B.V.K.Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort) and Head, HRS, Kovvur, Dr. K. T. Venkataramana, Principal Scientist(Hort) & Head, CRS, Tirupati and Dr.K.Giridhar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam also attended the meeting. with the officers of Department of Horticulture. Action plan for achieving double digit growth in horticulture sector in Andhra Pradesh was pre- pared during the workshop. 1 Donation for My Brick My Amaravathi Staff and students of HC&RI, Venkataramannagudem donated an amount of Rs. 4,100/- for the purchase of e-bricks towards con- struction of new capital city Amaravathi for the state of Andhra Pradesh. Dr K. Umajyothi, Professor(Hort) & Associate Dean i/c, Dr. D. V. Swamy, Associate Professor(Hort), Dr V. Sudha Vani, Assistant Professor(Hort) NSS Programme Officers and NSS Volunteers handed over the amount to Dr D. Srihari, Dean of Student Affairs on 07-11-2015 Farmers’ meet Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension attended a “Small farm- ers’ meet” Vizianagaram from 7-8th November, 2015 and deliv- ered a lecture on ‘Protected cultivation of vegetables’. The program was inaugurated by Sri.P.Ashoka Gajapathi Raju garu, Union Minister for civil aviation on 07th November, 2015. Dr.B.V.K.Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort) and Head, HRS, Kovvur participated in this Farmers meet and delivered a lec- ture on ‘Production technologies of papaya and banana’. Dr.P.Madhavi Latha, Scientist (Agro), HRS, Vijayarai and Dr.R.Rajyalaksmi, Scientist (Hort), MRS, Nuzuvid were the other scientists who participated in this meet to deliver lectures on oilpalm and mango respectively. The programme was organised by Pusapati Madhava Varma Foundation, Jonna- valasa, Vizianagaram district. Education RAWEP Activities Method Demonstration Final year students of HC&RI, Anantharajupeta conducted a method demonstration on ‘Postharvest treatment of banana fruits (Grand Naine)’ with Carbendazim @ 0.1% to avoid anthracnose during transport and storage under RAWEP at B.Kammapalli village on 13.11.2015. Dr. Ch. Ruth, Scientist (Pl. Pathology) Associate Dean Representative and Smt. T. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl.Pathology), Scientist-in-charge for RAWEP participated in this programme. Dr.K.Gopal, Associate Dean, Dr.M.Ramaiah, Associate Dean Representative, Smt.G.Sarada, Scientist-in-charge, RAWEP visited Mallaiahpalli and K.Gollapalli villages and suggestions were given on Bordeaux paste preparation & Neem seed ker- nel extract preparation to the RAWEP students. (Hons) Horti- culture students of HC&RI, Anantharajupet allotted to CRS, Petlur visited M/s. Cifal Herbal Products Pvt. Ltd., Goginenipu- ram village, Gudur mandal, SPSR Nellore district as a part of RAWEP programme to gain knowledge in organizational set up of industries. Mr.P.Ravi Kumar, Manager of the factory enlightened the students about preparation of citrus products like lime juice, pectin, fiber, black lime (drying unit) and lime oil (distillation unit). Research Rejuvenation of guava orchard Rejuvenated guava gar- den started responding well at KVK, Pandirima- midi. This garden was headed back in the month of July followed by fertil- izer application and irri- gation. These trees started sprouting and established well. Overcrowded branches were removed leaving sufficient space between the new branches. Monitoring visit Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research visited Citrus Research Station, Tirupathi on 07th November, 2015 to monitor the ongoing research and development activities at the research station followed by a review meeting with the scientists. He also visited the screen house and inspected the progress of work. Kisan mela Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento), Horticultural Research Station, Amba- jipeta participated in Kisan Mela organized by ICAR - KVK, Kalavacharla on 09-11-2015 and demonstrated the coconut climbing machine for nuts harvest and participated in Rythu Sadassu and clarified the queries posed by the farmers on various horticultural crops. Volume-I, Issue –12 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 1st –15th November, 2015 3 Extension Santhalo girijana sadassulu Dr.A.Srinivas, Programme Coordinator, Sri V.Govardhan Rao, SMS(Pl.Pathology) and Dr.K.Ravi Kumar, SMA(Hort), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pandirimamidi attended ‘Santhalo girijana sadassulu’ at Rampachodavaram, East Godavari district con- ducted by ITDA-Rampachodavaram on 15-11-2015. Sri K.V.V.Chakradhara Babu, I.A.S., Project Officer, ITDA and a team of Govt. Officers visited the shops in the Santha (Mandi) and interacted with sellers and consumers regarding price, quality and quantity of various goods. The Project Officer – ITDA conducted an interaction meet- ing with department officials and tribal people. Project Proposal Dr.E.Karunasree, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Venkataramannagudem met Sri K.V.V. Chakrad- hara Babu, IAS, Project Officer, ITDA, Rampachodavaram on 05-11-2015 and submitted a project proposal for millet based micro enterprise establishment. During the discussion Project Officer, ITDA requested to submit a proposal by KVK, Pandirimamidi to take up millet processing activity by tribal women in two mandals on Pilot basis with the technical support from KVK, Venkatara- mannagudem Training Programmes Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta organized a six days vocational training programme on “Coconut Hybridization” from 2nd to 7th November, 2015 at KVK, VR Gudem in collaboration with KVK, Venktaramannagudem and HRS, Vijayarai. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension in the presence of Dr. J. Dileep Babu, Director of Research and Dr.B.V.K.Bhagawan, Zonal Research Head(Coastal Zone-1). Scientists of HRS, Amba- jipeta and KVK, VRGudem conducted technical sessions on hybridization technique in coconut and various steps involved in hybridization such as selection of elite mother palms, emascula- tion, bagging, collection of pollen, storage and pollination etc. along with production and protection technologies of coconut. During the training programme emphasis was given for devel- opment of practical skills for successful production of coconut hybrids. Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Registrar was the chief guest for the valedictory programme on 7th November 2015 and distributed certificates to the participants. A total of 30 participants from three different places viz., Venkatra- mannagudem, Vijayarai and Ambajipet participated in this programme. Volume-I, Issue –12 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 1st –15th November, 2015 4 Visit of NGO –Consultant from Switzerland Dr.Thobia Heks, NGO consultant from Switzerland visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pandirimamidi along with Sri N.John Victor, Director – Pragathi NGO, Addateegala on 06.11.2015. Pragathi NGO has been working with tribal farmers in Pamugandi, D.N.Palem, Pedduru, Mulakalagudem and Kothuru villages of Devipatnam mandal with financial assistance from Heks, NGO and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pandirimamidi providing technical support in cashew pro- duction and protection aspects. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pandirimamidi is conducting Sorghum demonstrations in Devipatnam mandal. Dr.Thobia Heks, NGO consultant made a visit to know the cooperation between Pragathi NGO & Govt. Institutions. Dr.A.Srinivas, P.C.-KVK explained the activities of KVK in the agency areas. Sri V.Kabhodi, DSO-ITDA, Sri K.Krishna Reddy, Zonal Manager – Jobs – ITDA, Sri D.Partha Saradhi, DPD-IKP-ITDA, Rampachodavaram and CBOs have participated in this programme and shared their experiences. Capacity building programme Dr. A.Srinivs, Programme Coordinator, Sri.V.Govardahan Rao, SMS(Pl.Pathology), Dr.Ravikumar, SMA(Horti), Sri.Venkatata Ramana, SMA(SSAC) conducted a training programme on turmeric cultivation at Koyyalagudem village of Rampachoda- varam mandal, East Godavari district on 07-11-2015. Sri B.K.V.Mallikarjunarao, ADA – Rampachodavaram, farmers of the village, representatives of Laya and Pragati NGOs partici- pated in this programme. Field visit of Project Officer, ITDA Sri. K.V.V.Chakradara Babu, IAS Project Officer – ITDA, Ram- pachodavram visited sorghum fields at Musurumilli village of Rampachodavaram, mandal and Pamugandi, Pedduru and D.N.Palem villages of Devipatnam mandal on 04-11-2015 being organized by KVK, Pandirimamidi with support from Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad. Presently Sorghum crop is at grain filling and harvesting stage. The Pro- ject Officer interacted with the tribal farmers and the farmers responded positively
