RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Graduate Student Research Fellow New York City, New York, USA Expected to start January – May 2020 The Center for Public Research Leadership (the CPRL Fellowship 2020) at the Columbia University • Analyzed qualitative data from participating school districts across the US in the Network for School Improvement initiative by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. • Presented a formative evaluation to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and participating school representatives and school districts in the Network for School Improvement initiatives. • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research as well as some consultation projects with clients (appointed public schools) in improving educational outcomes for students of color, students from low- income households or otherwise traditionally undeserved. • Enroll for several classes and academic seminars, skill building workshops and intensive consulting projects at Columbia University. • Construct program evaluation plans, evaluation tools, indicators and their measurements to measure students’ outcomes in these appointed public school at NYC. Graduate Research Assistant Nashville, Tennessee, USA August 2019 – Present Department of Leadership, Policy and Organization (LPO), Peabody School of Education and Human Development, Vanderbilt University • Collaborate and coordinate with Faculty, Tennessee Research Alliance researchers, postgraduate fellow across departments both in the LPO and in the Health Policy department to work together with the 1 Rian Rinaldi Djita Policy for Actions research (P4A RWJF project) that is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that is looking for a better understanding between students who are at risk (immigrant students, homeless students, low-income students, students who were exposed by the opioid) and their education outcomes and health outcomes. • Identify school districts with the highest number of immigrant students, homeless students, students from low-income families, and students who were exposed to opioids and what resources they have in district level and in school level. • Handle data management of several datasets provided by both Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE), Tennessee Department of Health (TDOH), Tennessee Education Research Alliance (TERA) such as Kindergarten Entry Inventory data for the Fall 2017 dataset, TNReady 2nd grade test scores dataset, alternative assessment data from 2017-2019. These data sets are going to be used to help analyze the student’s outcomes in education especially for the subpopulation of students who are categorized in the adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) category in Tennessee. • Create several new variables such as social workers, counselors, psychologists, health staff, special education teachers and staff and other related resources for homeless students across Tennessee by district and school level. These variables are going to be used to identify the resources available for the homeless students in each school district in Tennessee. • Provide graphics from the datasets about the needs of each school district and the resource of each school districts in accommodating immigrant students, homeless students, students from low-income families, and students who were exposed to opioids across Tennessee. • Conducted several relevant literature reviews related to homelessness of students in the US and its impact on education and health as well as initiatives that are implemented regarding these issues. Summer Research Assistant in Read to be Ready (R2BR) TN Nashville, Tennessee, USA June – August 2019 Department of Data and Research, Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) • Managed the application from schools in every district that participated in the state-wide initiative of Read to be Ready in the state of Tennessee. • Identified the Economically Disadvantaged (ED) students in the R2BR summer program by matching the students’ ID on the submitted application with the dataset from TDOE. • Collaborated with researchers on the research and data team at TDOE, researchers from TERA and any other employees across departments at the TDOE. Summer Graduate Research Outcomes Nashville, Tennessee, USA May – August 2019 Department of Research Outcomes, Biomedical Research and Education Training (BRET), Vanderbilt University • Managed the database of the alumni of the school of Medicine from 1995-2019 for more than 3000 alumni. • Identified the career type of the alumni of the school of Medicine from 1995-2019 who worked in the industry, research labs, government, academia, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations and other related sector. These findings could be used to understand better the trend of the career type of the alumni from the school of medicine and helped the school to know which part that they need to emphasize more on their curriculum. • Investigated on the number of publications made by the alumni upon their graduation date from the database and the official website of Orchid by looking at the unique number of each researchers and their publications. • Developed data visualization of several enrichment programs for first-year graduate programs in order to evaluate as to whether the mentoring program for first-year PhD students helped them in their first few years of graduate school or not. • Collaborated with researchers in the BRET office in preparing for the findings to be published on the official website of BRET office and for the AAMC-GREAT conference 2019 in Seattle WA. 2 Rian Rinaldi Djita Graduate Research Assistant Nashville, Tennessee, USA January – May 2019 Department of Teachers and Leaders, Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) • Collaborated with the team to develop the teachers’ evaluation survey in all districts in Tennessee especially in the Micro -Credentials Program. • Coded qualitative responses on Micro-Credentials Program evaluations. • Evaluated the impact of taking Micro-credentials’ topics as a replacement of conventional CPD on teachers’ performance in Tennessee. • Collaborated with TDOE employees who worked on this Micro-credential project in the teachers and leader’s division at TDOE. Education & Health Consultant and Program Evaluator Nashville, TN, USA & Migori, Kenya August 2018 – May 2019 Lwala Community Alliance Kenya • Collected data and information regarding three different projects in Migori county Kenya : the in-school girls program, the school mentoring program and the health and nutrition program. • Scheduled regular conference calls with the field officers in Kenya to request and clarify for information about the projects. • Created strategic plan and program evaluation plan for each project. • Developed several measurements and indicators to evaluate the main strategic issues of the programs. • Conducted literature reviews related to education in rural areas in Kenya, health conditions in Kenya and its policies as well as some indicator and measurements needed for the evaluation.
