Las películas a analizar serán: 3 Following (1998), Memento (2000), Insomnio (2002), Batman Begins (2005), El Truco final (2006), El caballero oscuro (2008), Origen (2010), El caballero oscuro: La leyenda renace (2012) e Interstellar (2014). OF MONSTERS Best looks on the small screen By Joe Nazzaro hoto by Jordin Althaus/AMC AND MEN P elevision really has become the new frontier as far as high-quality drama is concerned. Not only have numerous filmmakers made the increasingly effortless jump from big to small screen, but with the growing influence of on-demand programming, Tpay (and basic) cable and new means of content delivery popping up all the time, the quality gap between film and television is virtually imperceptible. With that in mind, Make-Up Artist catches up with a handful of today’s top small-screen series, from a departing favorite to a surprise streaming sensation. GAME OF THRONES ith Season Five of the fantasy series airing on HBO, and Season Six headed into production, it’s a busy time for prosthetic supervisor WBarrie Gower, who won an Emmy for the fourth-season episode “The Children” with make-up department head Jane Walker. “Going into Season Five, we felt much more confident about whatever they could throw at us, but it was probably double the amount of work as Season Four,” Gower says. “Episode eight, which is called ‘Hardhome,’ was on the scale of a huge movie, so this season has been a massive undertaking. “Our main returning character this season was the king of the White Walkers, called the Night’s King, played by Richard Brake, as well as three new White Walkers, all played by stuntmen, each wearing bespoke silicone prosthetics and lace wigs. We also had a new giant this season called Wun Wun, played by Ian Whyte, a major character in episode eight.

We do this to help businesspeople and policymakers, particularly those with investments in California, better understand the state’s place in the competitive business environment that is feature film production. • Operaharmony
#OPERAHARMONY CREATING OPERAS IN ISOLATION 1 3 WELCOME TO #OPERA HARMONY FROM FOUNDER – ELLA MARCHMENT Welcome to #OperaHarmony. #Opera Harmony is a collection of opera makers from across the world who, during this time of crisis, formed an online community to create new operas. I started this initiative when the show that I was rehearsing at Dutch National Opera was cancelled because of the lockdown. Using social media and online platforms I invited colleagues worldwide to join me in the immense technical and logistical challenge of creating new works online. I set the themes of ‘distance’ and ‘community’, organised artist teams, and since March have been overseeing the creation of twenty new operas. All the artists involved in #OperaHarmony are highly skilled professionals who typically apply their talents in creating live theatre performances. Through this project, they have had to adapt to working in a new medium, as well as embracing new technologies and novel ways of creating, producing, and sharing work. #OperaHarmony’s goal was to bring people together in ways that were unimaginable prior to Covid-19. Over 100 artists from all the opera disciplines have collaborated to write, stage, record, and produce the new operas. The pieces encapsulate an incredibly dark period for the arts, and they are a symbol of the unstoppable determination, and community that exists to perform and continue to create operatic works. This has been my saving grace throughout lockdown, and it has given all involved a sense of purpose. When we started building these works we had no idea how they would eventually be realised, and it is with great thanks that we acknowledge the support of Opera Vision in helping to both distribute and disseminate these pieces, and also for establishing a means in which audiences can be invited into the heart of the process too .

  • NVIDIA Quadro Powers All Five Academy Award Nominees for Best Visual Effects
NVIDIA Quadro Powers All Five Academy Award Nominees for Best Visual Effects "Alice in Wonderland," "Inception," "Iron Man 2," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1," and "Hereafter" Nominated for VFX Oscar SANTA CLARA, CA -- This year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences expanded the Best Visual Effects category to five nominated films, and it was another clean sweep for films that relied on NVIDIA® technology -- all Oscar nominees in this category were created by studios using NVIDIA® Quadro® professional graphics solutions. Double Negative (DNeg) created visual effects for several of this year's nominated films including "Inception," "Iron Man 2," and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1." Central to DNeg's effects workflow is their proprietary fluid simulation system, known as "Squirt," a component of which was recently rewritten to leverage the NVIDIA CUDA™ parallel computing architecture and Quadro graphics processing units (GPUs). "Moving our fluid solver onto the GPU allows our artists to get back the results of their simulations much faster," said Dan Bailey, lead GPU developer, DNeg. "Fluid simulations are now sent to a specialized GPU farm, giving artists more time to iterate and ramp up the complexity of a shot to achieve a more believable result for the big screen." "Iron Man 2" features spectacular visual effects work, much of which was delivered by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). "Working with NVIDIA Quadro, we're able to work faster and iterate more frequently, which hugely benefits our artists, and ultimately the quality of our project work on films like 'Iron Man 2,'" notes Ben Snow, ILM visual effects supervisor.
