Carleton Village Public School is located at 315 Osler St., north of Model Schools for Davenport at Osler and Connolly St. As of September 2010, the Inner Cities school serves approximately 350 students from Junior Carleton Village is Kindergarten to Grade 8. We foster a network of support for the Early Years through a variety of initiatives including: Parent Workshops; Welcome to Kindergarten Registration, Orientation and Resources; Link with Ontario Early Years Centre and STOP Community Centre; Vision/Hearing Screening; and Community Resources. Lunch Program The Lunch Program is designed to help parents who are unable to care for their children over the lunch hour (11:45 am – 12:45 pm) by providing supervision. The children are supervised in the school cafeteria by lunchroom supervisors. Students can bring their own lunch from home, or purchase a freshly prepared hot lunch using our cafeteria services. Music at Carleton Village Students in grades 5-8 can choose to receive music instruction in steel pans or in strings. Both programs have developed an excellent reputation based on the performance abilities and responsible attitudes of our students. Our Steelband receives many requests from our community to perform at various events. There is a primary choir open to all students in grades 1 to 3. House System Carleton Village has a house system that creates a sense of community for students through intramural events and house league events. The four houses are Falcons, Hawks, Eagles and Owls. Some of the activities for students include: An Invention Convention; Concerts /Performing Arts/Drama; Social Justice/Me to We Day/Free the Children; Student Council; Literacy and Numeracy Tutoring; and Athletics (Basketball, Cross Country, Swim, Volleyball, Soccer, Track and Field). Parent and Community Engagement Carleton Village Public School embraces parent engagement and the school as the hub of the community through a variety of activies including: Parent Council; Parent volunteers in the school; Parent Resource Room; Partnerships with Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood Centre; Using the Toronto Police Community Liaison for classroom presentations; Collaboration with the Model Schools for Inner Cities Community Support Worker; Peer mentoring with Ursula Franklin Academy students in the classrooms on Wednesdays; and Supporting the pathways of high school students through Cooperative Education placements.
