Heat the 2 tablespoons butter and the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until the foam subsides. Stir in the garlic, pepper flakes, and collards. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Cook, stirring, for about 5 minutes to evaporate the liquid. Add the lemon juice and toss well. 3. Generously butter the outside of each muffin half, top and bottom. 4. Heat a large skillet over low heat and toast the cut sides of the muffins until lightly browned. To build the sandwich, place a piece of cheese on the top and bottom of each muffin. Place one slice of tomato on each bottom. Fill each sandwich with col- lard greens on top of the tomato. Place a muffin top on each sandwich. (The layers from top to bottom should be: bread, cheese, collard greens, tomato, cheese, bread.) 68 Oh Gussie! Friends 69.

Use this link to upload your recipe: ppld.librariesshare.com/ppldrecipes/ Some Fun Facts about Grilled Cheese ❖ Though similar recipes were mentioned in ancient Roman texts, the grilled cheese sandwich was technically invented in France in 1910, known as the Croque Monsieur. ❖ However, most experts agree that the first grilled cheese sandwiches were made in the United States in the 1920s when Otto Frederick Rohwedder invented a bread slicer that made distributing white bread easy and affordable. ❖ Shortly before that, processed cheese has been patented by James L. Kraft, whose pasteurizing process ensured that cheese would not spoil, even when transported great distances (the first Kraft plant opened in Illinois in 1914). ❖ During WWII, Navy Cooks prepared open faced grilled cheese sandwiches on Navy ships as instructed by government issued cookbooks. These sandwiches were called “American Cheese Filling Sandwiches.” ❖ In 1949, people finally began to add the second slice of bread to the top of this sandwich to make it more filling, and the sandwich we all know and love was born. ❖ The name “grilled cheese” wasn’t used until the 1960s; before then it was called “toasted cheese” or “melted cheese” sandwiches. ❖ Approximately 3/4 of people who buy sliced cheese make at least one grilled cheese sandwich per month. ❖ National Grilled Cheese Day is celebrated on April 12th! Allison’s Grilled Cheese Sandwich Ingredients: Bread Butter Cheese slices (thin) Optional (onion, apple, kale) Stone ground mustard --experiment with your own ingredients— Instructions: Butter bread slices on one side, flip slices over and add mustard to insides of bread.

  • An Alternative Guide to Kraków A.K.A
An Alternative Guide to Kraków a.k.a. how to discover the beauty of the city & avoid getting squashed by the hords of tourists 1. Take a stroll around the Main Market Square and discover the oldest bookshop in Europe, located at Rynek Główny 23, opened in 1610. You might even want to pop in as there is a selection of English books on offer. 2. See the Kanonicza Street, the most picturesque street in Kraków, leading to the Wawel Hill. Pop into Bona, the bookshop cafe, or visit Kanonicza 19, a flat-turned-museum once occupied by bishop Karol Wojtyła, later known as pope John Paul II. 3. Go up the Wawel Hill and enjoy a cup of coffee or homemade hot chocolate in the Słodki Wawel Cafe, located in the courtyard of Wawel Castle, with an outstanding view of the Wisła river. 4. See the Old Town in the evening or at night as it is truly spectacular at that time. Also, some really good street musicians tend to perform in The Market Square then. 5. If you are a jogger go for a run along the Wisła river or around the Błonia meadows in the morning. You will hardly meet anyone there at that time and both routes come with some pretty nice views of Kraków. 6. Visit Kazimierz, the Jewish District, and enjoy our pride and joy, namely Polish cuisine in the form of zapiekanki (open sandwich with mushrooms and grilled cheese, sold at Plac Nowy, Bar u Endziora) or homemade ice-cream at Starowiślna 83.
