[DNA analyser visar artuppdeln- ingen inom Stigmella salicis- och S. aurella grupperna och att det finns ytterligare kryptiska arter inom S. salicis (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae).] – Entomologisk Tidskrift 132 (4): 235-255. Uppsala, Sweden 2012. ISSN 0013-886x. We sequenced the mitochondrial barcoding marker COI and nuclear marker EF1-alpha for most Nordic and other European species of the Stigmella salicis and S. aurella species groups. In the S. salicis group both markers confirm the synonymy ofS. lappovimella with S. zelleriella. Specimens previously identified as Stigmella salicis and S. vimineticola are shown to form a complex of several cryptic species for which the taxonomy needs to be worked out. The species previously recorded as S. vimineticola from Norway represents probably an unnamed species. In the S. aurella group, the oligophagous Rosaceae feed- ers S. aurella and S. poterii are confirmed to be each a single oligophagous species. The synonymy between Stigmella ulmariae from Filipendula ulmaria and S. filipendulae from Filipendula vulgaris is corroborated. E.J. van Nieukerken & C. The larval mine of Stigmella lappovimella in leaves of Salix lapponum of different host leaf thickness is described and differences between the mine and the mines of Stigmella salicis on Salix caprea and Stigmella zelleriella on Salix repens are noted. The best diagnostic characters differentiating the mine of S. lappovimella from the two others was the almost unbroken frass line in the first half and the limited frass particle dispersion in the second half of the mine. Wing length was also measured and a small but statistically significant difference was observed between S. lappovimella and S. zelleriella. • STRESS TOLERANCE and HORTICULTURAL EVALUATION of the GENUS SALIX DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requiremen
STRESS TOLERANCE AND HORTICULTURAL EVALUATION OF THE GENUS SALIX DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Yulia A.Kuzovkina-Eischen, M.S. ***** The Ohio State University 2003 Dissertation Committee: Professor Martin F.Quigley, Adviser Approved by Professor Michael Knee Professor Steven Still ______________________ Professor Davis Sydnor Adviser Horticulture and Crop Science ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to investigate the adaptability of the genus Salix to stressful conditions and to promulgate its ornamental potential. This research has focused on Salix’s tolerance of natural and anthropogenic stresses, including flooded soils, soil compaction, heavy metals, and ozone pollution; all are common conditions in urban environments. I found that neither soil compaction nor flooding caused a significant reduction in the growth of willows, but that anaerobic conditions rapidly triggered a wide range of morphological adaptations. The copper and cadmium uptake study, conducted in a greenhouse hydroponic system, revealed a general tolerance of willows of increased metal in the solution and the translocation of metal into plant aerial organs; copper appears to be more toxic to plants and less mobile than cadmium. The response of Salix species to acute ozone exposure was studied in a fumigation chamber and it revealed marked interspecific differences; both ozone-sensitive and ozone-tolerant species were documented. The ornamental qualities of cut branches from twenty species and cultivars of shrubby willows were evaluated and described in detail, focusing on those attributes, and phenological sequence, important for the floral industry. More than fifty promising willow species for alpine and small urban gardens were selected based on multi-year observations.

  • Bibliography of Salix L. (Salicaceae) George W. Argus (7 April 2021)
Skvortsovia: 7(1): 1–164 (2021) Skvortsovia ISSN 2309-6497 (Print) Copyright: © 2021 Russian Academy of Sciences http://skvortsovia.uran.ru/ ISSN 2309-6500 (Online) Bibliography DOI:10.51776/2309-6500_2021_7_1_1 Bibliography of Salix L. (Salicaceae) George W. Argus Canadian Museum of Nature, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Email: [email protected] Received: 28 February 2017 | Accepted by: Irina Belyaeva 3 April 2021 | Published online: 7 April 2021 Edited by: Irina Belyaeva, Keith Chamberlain, Yulia Kuzovkina Abstract This bibliography comprises references to publications related to the genus Salix. The list was compiled by the author during his scientific career. The main focus of the list is on references related to willow nomenclature and taxonomy, but it also covers other biological aspects of the genus Salix and related genera. References are listed in alphabetical and chronological order. The titles of books and articles are given in full and checked against WordCat (2021). The names of journals are abbreviated according to Botanico-Periodicum-Huntiarum (BPH, 2021), the names of periodicals absent from BPH are marked with asterisks. This list was completed by the author in 2016 but has been much revised and checked by the editors of Skvortsovia since then. Keywords: bibliographic references, nomenclature, morphology, taxonomy, phylogenetics, Salix (Salicaceae) Introduction References mainly pertain to Salix L. This list was transcribed from hundreds of hand-written or typed index cards written by me or, sometimes, by my assistants. As this was done over many years and because some of the handwritten cards were difficult to read some typographical errors may have been introduced. The original cards were discarded after transcription and proofreading.
