DIII Track & Field Scholar Teams of the Year & All­Academic Teams Announced

NEW ORLEANS — Scholar Team of the Year and All­Academic Team honors for the 2015­16 NCAA Division III Track & Field seasons were announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The UW­Eau Claire men and Baldwin Wallace women, both national champions, were MEN’S SCHOLAR TEAM honored as Indoor Scholar Teams of the Year. That trend continued during the outdoor AWARD HISTORY season as the national champion UW­La Crosse men and Illinois Wesleyan women took Indoor Track & Field 2016: UW­Eau Claire home the laurels for Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year. 2015: UW­La Crosse 2014: UW­La Crosse In order to be in the running for Scholar Team of the Year, a team must finish highly at the 2013: UW­La Crosse 2012: UW­Eau Claire respective national championship and have at least a 3.10 cumulative team GPA. Jackets waged remarkable comebacks to win their respective national titles. UW­Eau Claire Outdoor Track & Field was led Josh Thorson, the Male Indoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year, while Baldwin 2016: UW­La Crosse 2015: UW­La Crosse Wallace was carried by Melanie Winters, the Female Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. 2014: UW­La Crosse 2013: UW­La Crosse This is the second Indoor Scholar Team of the Year Award for the Blugolds (third overall, 2012: UW­Eau Claire 2011: UW­La Crosse but first since 2012), while it’s the Yellow Jackets’ first in program history. 2010: Salisbury 2009: Whitworth 2008: Whitworth There was little denying UW­La Crosse and Illinois Wesleyan at the NCAA Division III 2007: UW Platteville Outdoor Championships in Waverly, Iowa. WOMEN’S SCHOLAR TEAM AWARD HISTORY The Eagles beat UW­Eau Claire by eight points (41­33) and ended the rival’s chance at a Indoor Track & Field Triple Crown (XC, Indoor & Outdoor titles in the same academic year), while the Titans 2016: Baldwin Wallace edged Baldwin Wallace by one point (42­41) thanks to the efforts of Amelia Glueck, the 2015: UW­La Crosse 2014: UW­Oshkosh Female Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. 2013: UW­Oshkosh 2012: Wartburg Counting this one, the past four Men’s Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year honors went to 2011: UW­Oshkosh 2010: Wartburg UW­La Crosse. Outdoor Track & Field 2016: Illinois Wesleyan All­Academic Teams 2015: UW­La Crosse 2014: Wartburg 2013: Wartburg In total, there were 112 men’s teams and 175 women’s teams honored by the Association 2012: Wartburg 2011: UW­Oshkosh for success in the classroom and in competition. 2010: Illinois Wesleyan 2009: Wartburg Fontbonne’s women had the best GPA out of every DIII team with a 3.84. The runner­up 2008: Illinois Wesleyan 2007: UW­Oshkosh women’s team was St. John Fischer at 3.645, followed by third­place tie between Carleton College and Whitworth at 3.63. Edgewood College rounded out the top­5 with its GPA of 3.62.

The top men’s team was Waynesburg University with a GPA of 3.7. Principia College followed at 3.599, narrowly topping MIT withi ts 3.5968. The fourth­place men’s team was Carleton College at 3.55 and fifth place belonged to Stevens at 3.524.
