Academic: General Education which includes literacy and math instruction: The Special Education program is for those with learning handicaps. Literacy/Remedial Reading (LRR) is for those functioning below the fifth-grade reading level. Adult Basic Education (ABE) is for offenders functioning between the fifth-grade level and eighth- grade level. General Education Development (GED) is for those at or above the eighth- grade level without a high school diploma; completion of GED earns the student a high school equivalency diploma. Counseling: This is a very broad category of treatment. It may include sex-offender, positive mental attitude (PMA), or pre-release counseling to ease the return to free society. Additionally, it may include anger management and many others, along with substance abuse. It offers programs for those with alcohol/drug programs and may include Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous (AA/NA) and other treatment modes. It also includes individual, group counseling modes and Specialized Intervention Units (SID) where the participants live together in treatment communities and assist each other to overcome their problems. 6 Program Descriptions Religious Activities: Offenders are assured religious freedom under the U.S. Constitution. Georgia Department of Corrections Chaplaincy Services will arrange to meet the need for any recognized faith, including services by and individual contact with ministers of that faith. Full-time and part-time chaplains also offer non-sectarian humanitarian assistance to any troubled offender. Religious instruction on the Bible, the Koran and other spiritual guides is available. Vocational/OJT: This section provides information on training for a particular job skill - classroom, shop and/or on-the-job training (OJT) requirements. Completion leads to the same certification or diploma offered by a free society training program. 7 North Region (LEE) ARRENDALE STATE PRISON 2023 GAINESVILLE HWY SOUTH POST OFFICE BOX 709 ALTO, GA 30510 (706) 776-4700 FAX: (706) 776-4710 PROGRAMS: Academic: Fast Track General Equivalency Diploma, Charter High School Counseling: Moral Reconation Therapy, Motivation for Change, Detour, Family Violence, Thinking for a Change, Re-Entry, Parenting, Relapse Prevention, Behavior Stabilization, Career Center, Children’s Center Recreation: General Recreation Religious Activities: Various Worship Services, Bible Study, & Pastoral Counseling Vocational/OJT: Small Engine Repair, Auto Mechanics, Auto Paint, Woodworking, Cosmetology, Electrical Wiring, Warehousing, Welding (Metal Fabrication), Food Service, Fire Department, Educational & Library Aides, Office Technology, Automotive Maintenance/Detailing, Farm Worker, and Veterinary Technician AUGUSTA STATE MEDICAL PRISON 3001 GORDON HWY GROVETOWN, GA 30813 (706) 855-4700 FAX: (706) 855-4958 PROGRAMS: Academic: GENERAL Education Diploma, Adult Basic Education, Literacy/Remedial Counseling: Motivation for Change, Thinking for a Change, Family Violence, Moral Reconation Therapy, Matrix Early Recovery Skills & Relapse Prevention, SOPP, Reentry Skill Building, Activity Therapy, TOPSTEPP, Specialized Groups for Mental Health Recreation: General Recreation Religious Activities: Various Worship Services, Bible Study, Prayer Group Vocational/OJT: Food Preparation, Barbering, Laundry Services, & Horticulture 8 North Region BALDWIN STATE PRISON 301 LAYING FARM ROAD POST OFFICE BOX 218 HARDWICK, GA 31034 (478) 445- 5218 FAX: (478) 445 – 6507 PROGRAMS: Academic: GED, ABE, Literacy Remedial Education, Special Education Counseling: HIV Awareness, Positive Mental Attitude, Re-Entry, T4C, Celebrate Recovery, Family Violence, Integrity Program, Numerous Mental Health Groups, M4C, AA Recreation: General Recreation Religious Activities: Various Worship Services, Gospel Music, Pastoral Counseling Vocational/OJT: Food Preparation, Horticulture, Graphic Arts, Meat Cutting, Maintenance, Fork Lift operation, Barber BURRUSS CORRECTIONAL TRAINING CENTER 1000 INDIAN SPRINGS DRIVE POST OFFICE BOX 5849 FORSYTH, GA 31029 (478) FORSYTH, GA 31029 (478) 994-7511 FAX: (478) 994-7561 PROGRAMS: Academic: General Education Diploma, Adult Basic Education, Literacy, Correspondence Courses, Title I and Special Education, Bartlett Reading, English as A Second Language Counseling: Family Violence, Motivation for Change, Re-Entry, Thinking for A Change, Moral Recognition Therapy Recreation: General Recreation, Wellness Walk Religious Activities: Various Worship Services, Bible Study, Confronting Self Concepts, Heads Up Kairos Reunion, Specialized Dorm “New Beginnings” Vocational/OJT: Custodial, Food Preparation, Horticulture, Customer Service, Teacher Aides, Veterinarian Assistant (Guide Dog Program), Warehouse Management, Forklift Driver, Barbering, Food Service Preparation & Cooks 9 North Region CENTRAL STATE PRISON 4600 FULTON MILL ROAD MACON, GA 31208 (478) 471-2908 FAX: (478) 471-2068 PROGRAMS: Academic: Literacy/Remedial, Adult Basic Education, General Education Diploma Preparation Counseling: Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous, Motivation for Change, Thinking for A Change, Case Management, Individual Counseling, Family Violence, Thinking For A Change, Moral Recognition Therapy, Lifer's Confronting Self Concept, Health Awareness Recreation: General Recreation, Wellness Program, Special (Mental Health/Mental Rehabilitation) Recreation Religious Activities: Various Worship Services, Pastoral Counseling, Religious Education Vocational/OJT: Carpentry, Plumbing, Building Maintenance, Correctional Industries Garment Manufacturing GEORGIA DIAGNOSTIC AND CLASSIFICATION PRISON 2978 HWY 36 WEST POST OFFICE BOX 3877 JACKSON, GA 30233 (770) 504-2000 FAX: (770) 504-2006 PROGRAMS: Academic: General Education Diploma, Remedial, Literacy, Adult Basic Education, OJT Counseling: Family Violence, Psychological Education Groups for Mental Health Offenders, Motivation for Change Recreation: General Recreation Religious Activities: Various Worship Services, Study Groups, Pastoral Counseling 10 North Region HANCOCK STATE PRISON 701 PRISON BLVD POST OFFICE BOX 339 SPARTA, GA 31087 (706) 444-1000 FAX: (706) 444-1137 PROGRAMS: Academic: General Education Diploma, Adult Basic Education, Literacy Remedial Counseling: Motivation for Change, Re-entry, Matrix Early Recovery Skills, MRT, Thinking for a Change, Relapse Prevention, SOPP, Individual Counseling, Confronting Self, and Lifers Group Recreation: General Recreation Volunteer Services: Heads-Up, AA Religious Activities: Activities: Seventh Day Adventist, Jehovah Witness, Catholic, Protestant, General Services, Jumah and Talim services weekly.
