Este trabalho teve como objetivo principal realizar um levantamento desta família em ambientes de altitude da Serra do Mar no Sul do Brasil, bem como caracterizar morfológica, química e ecologicamente as espécies encontradas, proporcionar meios para a identificação das mesmas através de chaves, ilustrações e descrições e contribuir para o conhecimento liquenológico no Sul do Brasil. Foram realizadas excursões de coleta e observação a campo em nove pontos acima de 900 metros na Serra do Mar do Paraná e Santa Catarina e também foram analisados espécimes depositados nos herbários MBM e UPCB. Os exemplares coletados foram incorporados ao herbário UPCB. Em laboratório foram realizadas observações morfológicas e anatômicas sob microscópio estereoscópico e óptico. Para a análise de metabólitos secundários foram utilizados testes de coloração de talo, observação do talo sob lâmpada UV e cromatografia em camada delgada seguindo as técnicas padrões em liquenologia. Dos 858 espécimes analisados foram encontradas 52 espécies, sendo uma de Cladia e 51 de Cladonia, destas quatro são propostas como novas para a ciência: Cladonia mackii Charnei & Eliasaro, C. maculata Charnei & Eliasaro, C. quiririensis Charnei & Eliasaro e C. paranaensis Charnei & Eliasaro. Cladonia multiformis G. Merr. é novo registro para a América do Sul. Foram registradas cinco novas ocorrências para o Sul do Brasil: C. anaemica (Nyl.) Ahti, C. carassensis Vain., C. clathrata Ahti & L. Xavier, C. imperialis Ahti & Marcelli e C. uncialis (L.) F. H. Wigg., além de 14 novos registros para o Estado do Paraná e 11 para Santa Catarina. São mencionadas pela primeira vez as formas e as dimensões dos ascósporos de C. ahtii S. Stenroos e C. meridionalis Vain, bem como a forma e a dimensão dos conídios de C. calycanthoides (Vain.) Ahti & Marcelli. Para todas as espécies de Cladonia foram feitas descrições, comentários e ilustrações. Palavras-chave: Cladia. Cladonia. Paraná. Santa Catarina. Taxonomia. V ABSTRACT The family Cladoniaceae includes about 500 species, distributed in all continents, and has as main characteristic dimorphic thallus. This study had as main purpose to make a survey on this lichen family in altitude environments of the Serra do Mar in Southern Brazil, as well characterize the morphology, chemistry and ecologically of all the species found, provide means for their identification through keys, illustrations and descriptions and contribute to the lichenological knowledge in Southern Brazil. Collections and observations in the field were made in nine points above 900 meters in Paraná and Santa Catarina States and were also analyzed specimens deposited in MBM and UPCB Herbarium. The samples were incorporated to the UPCB Herbarium. In laboratory were made morphological and anatomical analysis under stereomicroscope and optic microscope. For the chemical analysis, spots tests of the thallus were made and also the observations the thallus under UV light and thin layer chromatography, following standard methods in lichenology. From 858 samples analyzed were found 52 species, one of Cladia and 51 of Cladonia, these four are proposed as new to science: Cladonia mackii Charnei & Eliasaro, C. maculata Charnei & Eliasaro, C. quiririensis Charnei & Eliasaro and C. paranaensis Charnei & Eliasaro. Cladonia multiformis G. Merr. is new record to South America. Were recorded five new records to the Southern Brazil: C. anaemica (Nyl.) Ahti, C. carassensis Vain., C. clathrata Ahti & Xavier Filho, C. imperialis Ahti & Marcelli and C. uncialis (L.) F. H. Wigg. and 14 species are new records to Paraná, as well 11 to Santa Catarina. Are recorded for the first time the shape and sizes of the ascospores of C. ahtii S. Stenroos and C. meridionalis Vain., as well the shape and sizes of the conidia of C. calycanthoides (Vain.)     A REVIEW OF LICHENOLOGY IN SAINT LUCIA INCLUDING A LICHEN CHECKLIST HOWARD F. FOX1 AND MARIA L. CULLEN2 Abstract. The lichenological history of Saint Lucia is reviewed from published literature and catalogues of herbarium specimens. 238 lichens and 2 lichenicolous fungi are reported. Of these 145 species are known only from single localities in Saint Lucia. Important her- barium collections were made by Alexander Evans, Henry and Frederick Imshaug, Dag Øvstedal, Emmanuël Sérusiaux and the authors. Soufrière is the most surveyed botanical district for lichens. Keywords. Proceedings of the Indiana Academy of Science 126(2):129–152 LICHENS AND ALLIED FUNGI OF THE INDIANA FOREST ALLIANCE ECOBLITZ AREA, BROWN AND MONROE COUNTIES, INDIANA INCORPORATED INTO A REVISED CHECKLIST FOR THE STATE OF INDIANA James C. Lendemer: Institute of Systematic Botany, The New York Botanical Garden, Bronx, NY 10458-5126 USA ABSTRACT. Based upon voucher collections, 108 lichen species are reported from the Indiana Forest Alliance Ecoblitz area, a 900 acre unit in Morgan-Monroe and Yellowwood State Forests, Brown and Monroe Counties, Indiana. The lichen biota of the study area was characterized as: i) dominated by species with green coccoid photobionts (80% of taxa); ii) comprised of 49% species that reproduce primarily with lichenized diaspores vs. 44% that reproduce primarily through sexual ascospores; iii) comprised of 65% crustose taxa, 29% foliose taxa, and 6% fruticose taxa; iv) one wherein many species are rare (e.g., 55% of species were collected fewer than three times) and fruticose lichens other than Cladonia were entirely absent; and v) one wherein cyanolichens were poorly represented, comprising only three species. Taxonomic diversity ranged from 21 to 56 species per site, with the lowest diversity sites concentrated in riparian corridors and the highest diversity sites on ridges. Low Gap Nature Preserve, located within the study area, was found to have comparable species richness to areas outside the nature preserve, although many species rare in the study area were found only outside preserve boundaries. Sets of rare species are delimited and discussed, as are observations as to the overall low abundance of lichens on corticolous substrates and the presence of many unhealthy foliose lichens on mature tree boles.

Consequently, the exsiccata contains both highly host-specific and pluri- vorous species, as long as the individuals clearly grow upon a lichen and the col- lection is homogeneous, so that identical duplicates can be prepared. Academic Editor: Joel Boustie Received: 1 March 2017; Accepted: 11 May 2017; Published: 17 May 2017 Abstract: Microscopic and molecular studies suggest that lichen symbioses contain a plethora of associated fungi. These are potential producers of novel bioactive compounds, but strains isolated on standard media usually represent only a minor subset of these fungi. By using various in vitro growth conditions we are able to modulate and extend the fraction of culturable lichen-associated fungi. We observed that the presence of iron, glucose, magnesium and potassium in growth media is essential for the successful isolation of members from different taxonomic groups. According to sequence data, most isolates besides the lichen mycobionts belong to the classes Dothideomycetes and Eurotiomycetes. With our approach we can further explore the hidden fungal diversity in lichens to assist in the search of novel compounds. [email protected] (Received June 10, 2008; Accepted November 5, 2009) Abstract This study uses a set of PCR-based methods to examine the putative microbiota associated with lichen thalli. In initial experiments, generalized oligonucleotide-primers for the 16S rRNA gene resulted in amplicon pools populated almost exclusively with fragments derived from lichen photobionts (i.e., Cyanobacteria or chloroplasts of algae). This effectively masked the presence of other lichen-associated prokaryotes. In order to facilitate the study of the lichen microbiota, 16S ribosomal oligonucleotide-primers were developed to target Bacteria, but exclude sequences derived from chloroplasts and Cyanobacteria. A preliminary microbiotic survey of lichen thalli using these new primers has revealed the identity of several bacterial associates, including representatives of the extremophilic Acidobacteria, bacteria in the families Acetobacteraceae and Brucellaceae, strains belonging to the genus Methylobacterium, and members of an undescribed lineage in the Rhizobiales. This new lineage was investigated and characterized through molecular cloning, and was found to be present in all examined lichens that are associated with green algae. There is evidence to suggest that members of this lineage may both account for a large proportion of the lichen-associated bacterial community and assist in providing the lichen thallus with crucial nutrients such as fixed nitrogen.
