Abstract Ammonite faunas of the Sarasini Subzone (Upper Barremian) from the Baronnies (Drôme, France).- A rich ammonite fauna, taken in the Curnier region (Drôme, France) and dated from the Upper Barremian, Giraudi Zone, Sarasini Subzone, is described and studied here. Fifteen generic units, represented by more or less important samples, have been recognised : Phylloceras (Hypophylloceras), Phyllopachyceras, Protetragonites, Eulytoceras, Barremites, Melchiorites, Pseudohaploceras, Silesites, Macroscaphites, Audouliceras, ?Pseudocrioceras, Martelites, Heteroceras, Ptychoceras and Ptychohamulina. The genera showing a sufficiently significant sample have allowed to study the intraspecific variability of the species, especially the ones belonging to the genus Martelites. The sexual dimorphism between the taxas Macroscaphites yvani (PUZOS) and Costidiscus recticostatus (D’ORBIGNY) is confirmed with an ontogenetic and biometric study.Ptychohamulina testeorum nov. sp., new specie of the Hamulinidae GILL family, is introduced. ABSTRACT This study ocuses on the lower Aptian desmoceratid auna o Oliete sub-basin (Teruel province). The systematic revision o these biostratigraphy well constrained ammonites, allowed us to work on two issues. On the fist place, we improved the systematic and taxonomic knowledge about Pseudosaynella raresulcata (d’Orbigny, 1841), Pseudosaynella bicurvata (Michelin, 1838) and Pseudohaploceras liptoviensis (Zeuschner, 1856) whose definitions, previous to this study, were based on scarce material and ew studies on their ontoge- netic variation. On a second place, we constrained their stratigraphical ranges, especially or the Pseudosaynella species, and their correlation with the lower Aptian standard ammonite Mediterranean zonation. Keywords: lower Aptian, ammonoids, systematics, biostratigraphy, Oliete sub-basin, Iberian Chain, Te- ruel, Spain. • First Record of Non-Mineralized Cephalopod Jaws and Arm Hooks
Klug et al. Swiss J Palaeontol (2020) 139:9 https://doi.org/10.1186/s13358-020-00210-y Swiss Journal of Palaeontology RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access First record of non-mineralized cephalopod jaws and arm hooks from the latest Cretaceous of Eurytania, Greece Christian Klug1* , Donald Davesne2,3, Dirk Fuchs4 and Thodoris Argyriou5 Abstract Due to the lower fossilization potential of chitin, non-mineralized cephalopod jaws and arm hooks are much more rarely preserved as fossils than the calcitic lower jaws of ammonites or the calcitized jaw apparatuses of nautilids. Here, we report such non-mineralized fossil jaws and arm hooks from pelagic marly limestones of continental Greece. Two of the specimens lie on the same slab and are assigned to the Ammonitina; they represent upper jaws of the aptychus type, which is corroborated by fnds of aptychi. Additionally, one intermediate type and one anaptychus type are documented here. The morphology of all ammonite jaws suggest a desmoceratoid afnity. The other jaws are identifed as coleoid jaws. They share the overall U-shape and proportions of the outer and inner lamellae with Jurassic lower jaws of Trachyteuthis (Teudopseina). We also document the frst belemnoid arm hooks from the Tethyan Maastrichtian. The fossils described here document the presence of a typical Mesozoic cephalopod assemblage until the end of the Cretaceous in the eastern Tethys. They are preserved in situ in the body cham- ber and characterized by a widely open outer lamella with a nearly flat rostral portion. The outer lamella consists of an inner “chitinous” layer sculptured by a median furrow in the anterior to mid-portions and an outer calcareous layer with prismatic microstructure. The lower jaw features of the two Menuites spe- cies are shared by other species of the Pachydiscidae described in previous works, indicating that they are diagnostic characters of this family. In view of the shovel-like shape without a pointed rostrum, the lower jaws of the two Menuites species were likely used as a scoop to feed on microorganisms. ABSTRACT: Walaszczyk, I., Kennedy, W.J. and Paranjape, A.R. 2018. Inoceramids and associated ammonite faunas from the uppermost Turonian–lower Coniacian (Upper Cretaceous) of the Anaipadi–Saradamangalam region of the Cauvery Basin, south-east India. Acta Geologica Polonica, 68 (4), 663–687. Warszawa. The lower (but not lowermost) part of the Upper Cretaceous Anaipadi Formation of the Trichinopoly Group in the area between Kulatur, Saradamangalam and Anaipadi, in the south-western part of the Cauvery Basin in south- east India yielded rich inoceramid and ammonite faunas. The ammonites: Mesopuzosia gaudama (Forbes, 1846), Damesites sugata (Forbes, 1846), Onitschoceras sp., Kossmaticeras (Kossmaticeras) theobal dianum (Stoliczka, 1865), Lewesiceras jimboi (Kossmat, 1898), Placenticeras kaffrarium Etheridge, 1904, and Pseudoxybeloceras (Schlueterella) sp., are characteristic of the Kossmaticeras theobaldianum Zone. The absence of Peroniceras (P.) dravidicum (Kossmat, 1895) indicates the presence of only lower part of this zone, referred to the nominative Kossmaticeras theobaldianum Subzone at the localities studied.

The Middle Turonian lime- stones of the Stara Bystrzyca quarry contain an abundant assemblage of inoceramids (Inoceramus cuvieri Sowerby and I. lamarcki Parkinson) and other bivalves, including oysters, as well as brachiopods and trace fossils. Micropalaeonto- logical data show the presence of foraminifers and siliceous sponge spiculae, bryozoans, ostracods and fragments of bivalves and gastropods. The Middle Turonian calcareous deposits belongs to the upper part of the Inoceramus lamarcki Zone (late Middle Turonian) and were deposited on a shallow, subtidal offshore shelf. They overlie the Middle Turo- nian Bystrzyca and Długopole Sandstones, which represent foreshore-shoreface delta deposits. New ammonite faunas consisting of 13 taxa provide the first reliable biostratigraphic dating of the Debarsu Forma- tion of the Yazd Block, west-central Iran, indicating several levels in the Upper Albian and Lower Cenomanian, while a foraminiferal assemblage places the top of the Formation in the Middle Turonian. Among the identified ammonite taxa, Acompsoceras renevieri (Sharpe, 1857) is recorded from Iran for the first time. The upper part of the lower Up- per Albian is proved by the occurrences of mortoniceratines of the Mortoniceras (M.) inflatum Zone in the lower- most part of the Debarsu Formation. For the upper Upper Albian (traditional Stoliczkaia dispar Zone), the M. (Sub- schloenbachia) rostratum and M. (S.) perinflatum zones are proved by their index taxa.

ABSTRACT The pachydiscid ammonite Menuites fresvillensis, which is known from the Abathomphalus mayaroen- sis planktonic foraminifer zone, is considered an index taxon for the lower part of the Upper Maastrich- tian (Upper Cretaceous), with records from Europe, Australia and South America. Two unusually large specimens are described here one of them being the largest individual ever recorded, with a diameter of 425 mm. Previously, the Quiriquina Formation has yielded specimens that reached diameters of 360 mm. Based on the new material and specimens described previously in the literature, it is now possible to reconstruct the later growth stages of M. fresvillensis, in particular for specimens with diameters >117 and up to 425 mm. These data demonstrate that M. fresvillensis maintains its characteristic mor- phology, albeit slight variations, throughout ontogeny, including the largest specimens described here. Accepted 14 December 2011 Four species of the distinctive desmoceratid ammonite Hauericeras (Gardeniceras) Matsumoto & Obata, 1955, are described from KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape Province: the type species, H. (G.) gardeni (Baily, 1855), from the Santonian to Lower Campanian, H.(G.) pseudoangustum Collignon, 1961, and H. (G.) madagascariense Collignon, 1961, from the Lower Campanian, and H. (G.) rembda (Forbes, 1846) from the upper Upper Maastrichtian. Keywords: ammonites, Hauericeras (Gardeniceras), Santonian, Campanian, Cretaceous, KwaZulu, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. INTRODUCTION Mossamedites Cooper, 2003a, and Oiophyllites Spath, 1953, Hauericeras (Gardeniceras) gardeni (Baily, 1855) is one of have been referred to the Hauericeratinae. The latter is the most distinctive and immediately recognizable based on tiny desmoceratoidean nuclei and is best treated ammonites from the Santonian–Campanian Mzamba as a nomen dubium. Boreal/Subboreal basins during the Bathonian–Albian with special focus on new records and the relationship between Keywords Aptychi Á Jurassic Á Cretaceous Á Ammonites Á the evolution of ammonite conch and aptychi. For the first Evolution time we figure aptychi that belong to Aulacostephanidae, Virgatitidae, Deshayesitidae, Craspeditinae and Laugeiti- nae. A strong difference between aptychi of micro- and Introduction macroconchs of co-occurring Aspidoceratidae is shown, which, along with their shell morphologies suggests niche Aptychi are organic (in some cases with calcite layers of divergence of these dimorphs.
