The fire spotted into the community but was quickly extinguished by crews in place to provide structure defense. The presence of these fire crews along with air support kept the fire on the east side of the Hwy. USDA Forest Service officials on the San Bernardino National Forest have confirmed the death of a firefighter on the El Dorado Fire. The incident took place on Thursday, September 17, 2020. The name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Our deepest sympathies are with the family, friends and fellow firefighters during this time. More details will be made available as they are confirmed. The fire continues to impact the communities of Angelus Oaks, Mountain Home Village, Forest Falls, and threatens the areas of Glen Martin School, San Bernardino Peak, Anderson Peak, Pinezanita, Horse Flats, Barton Flats, Anderson Peak, and Heart Bar.

Smoke from the blaze, dubbed the El Dorado Fire, could be seen across the desert. Evacuation orders were issued for some residents in the communities of Oak Glen, Forest Falls and Mountain Home Village — a trio of towns clustered near the base of San Gorgonio Mountain. Some residents in eastern Yucaipa, a city about 20 miles southeast of San Bernardino, also were ordered to evacuate, while others remained under evacuation warning. By Saturday night, some evacuation orders were lifted Oak Glen residents who live east of Pine Bench Road are allowed to return home, according to Cal Fire. About 30 homes, primarily located in Oak Glen, were threatened Saturday, but San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey said only one outbuilding was destroyed. Cal Fire San Bernardino Chief Shane Littlefield said 450 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was 5% contained as of 9 p.m. Saturday.

CAL FIRE Unit: MENDOCINO Unified Command Agencies: N/A Size: 863 acres Containment: 10% Expected Full Containment: Unknown Civilian Injuries/Fatalities: NONE Firefighter Injuries/Fatalities: NONE Residential Structures Threatened: 800 Structures Destroyed: 2 Structures Damaged: Unknown CURRENT SITUATION Situation Summary: Favorable firefighting conditions continue due to an inversion layer trapping smoke from the Mendocino National Forest August Complex fire. Firefighters are working in steep and rugged terrain. The fire is burning in a mix of grass, brush, oak and conifer trees. Crews will continue to complete and strengthen containment lines. Possible shifts in weather due to the inversion layer lifting, and a afternoon wind direction shift from the northeast to the southwest may challenge firefighting efforts. Indirect contingency lines are also being constructed outside the fire perimeter utilizing existing fuelbreaks. Evacuation Order: 3rd Gate (all), Brooktrails (all), Spring Creek (all), Schow Rd/Ryan Creek Rd, and Sleepy Hollow.     ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ News Headlines 09/09/2020 CAL FIRE California Statewide Fire Summary for Wednesday Morning, September 9, 2020 El Dorado Fire Wednesday: Containment Grows But New Evacuation Warnings In Place 1 CAL FIRE California Statewide Fire Summary for Wednesday Morning, September 9, 2020 Staff Writer, Gold Rush Cam Posted: Friday, September 9, 2020 September 9, 2020 - Yesterday, and overnight, wind conditions allowed many fires to grow significantly with extreme fire behavior. While containment on Cal firemany of last month’s lightning fires grows closer, several new wildfires ignited and were fanned by strong gusty winds. Today approximately 14,000 firefighters are battling 28 major wildfires across California. The newest fire, the Willow in Yuba County, broke out late last evening near the community of Dobbins, forcing evacuations. The Bear Fire, which is part of the North Complex, spread rapidly yesterday due to Red Flag conditions and moved towards multiple communities east of Oroville, and forced more evacuations. This year, wildfires have now burned over 2.5 million acres in California. There have been 8 fatalities and over 3,700 structures destroyed. While Red Flag Warnings remain in effect across much of the state, winds are expected to weaken as we go through the day. Wind gusts are possible up to 55mph in mountain and foothill areas. Minimum humidity will be mainly in the single digits and teens through Wednesday and will likely increase Thursday. Tomorrow, wind conditions improve and seasonal temperatures and dry conditions will persist into the weekend. Do you have a plan for all your family should a wildfire strike near you?
