Josh McDaniels fiasco, anthem protests are examples why the NFL misses Pat Bowlen right now By Paul Klee Colorado Springs Gazette Feb. 11, 2018 Robert Kraft is the real villain in the Josh McDaniels-Colts fiasco. With great power comes great responsibility, and no owner uses his for self-serving interests more frequently than the Patriots’. Some of the NFL’s most prominent issues — national anthem protests, distrust between players and owners, the fallout from continued and necessary CTE studies, all that — are a direct result of the league’s knee-jerk reaction to almost anything that threatens to tarnish the shield. I call it the CYA plan. Instead of working together to advance the greater good with a sensible solution, the men in charge seek to cover their own backside. The anthem protests are the perfect example. The NBA quickly and successfully identified a solution in the form of a blanket decree that all teams must stand for the anthem. And when’s the last time you read a report on anthem issues in the NBA? There haven’t been any. There’s been zero blowback from a league roster that’s 70 percent black. The NBA’s all good. This isn’t hard. Meantime, the wishy-washy NFL tried to appease this group ... and that group ... and that other group ... and the end result has been distrust from players and alienating a sizable chunk of its fandom. Nobody follows the CYA plan — ignoring what’s best for the league in order to help itself — better than Kraft. That brings us to McDaniels, who reneged on a promise to join the Colts as coach.

Sanderson • John J. Siegfried Ó Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2017 Abstract In this essay we consider why American colleges and universities par- ticipate in big-time commercialized intercollegiate sports, and how sports came to play such a prominent role on American college and university campuses. We also review how the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) developed as a body to regulate player safety and transformed itself into an economic regulator, the means by which the NCAA attempts to maintain its control, increase revenues, and reduce costs for college sports programs. We also examine how the organization succeeds in the face of institutional characteristics that imply that its cartel activities would be doomed. Finally, we speculate on what changes might be on the horizon for the NCAA and college athletics. • 2. Díl – Tryskový Muž Aneb Jaké Je to Létat Jako Pták Poměrně Náročnou Otázkou Pro Mě Bylo, Kterým Zajímavým Projektem Nebo Rekordem Začít

  • Iran, Gulf Security, and U.S. Policy
Iran, Gulf Security, and U.S. Policy Kenneth Katzman Specialist in Middle Eastern Affairs August 14, 2015 Congressional Research Service 7-5700 www.crs.gov RL32048 Iran, Gulf Security, and U.S. Policy Summary Since the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, a priority of U.S. policy has been to reduce the perceived threat posed by Iran to a broad range of U.S. interests, including the security of the Persian Gulf region. In 2014, a common adversary emerged in the form of the Islamic State organization, reducing gaps in U.S. and Iranian regional interests, although the two countries have often differing approaches over how to try to defeat the group. The finalization on July 14, 2015, of a “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action” (JCPOA) between Iran and six negotiating powers could enhance Iran’s ability to counter the United States and its allies in the region, but could also pave the way for cooperation to resolve some of the region’s several conflicts. During the 1980s and 1990s, U.S. officials identified Iran’s support for militant Middle East groups as a significant threat to U.S. interests and allies. A perceived potential threat from Iran’s nuclear program emerged in 2002, and the United States orchestrated broad international economic pressure on Iran to try to ensure that the program is verifiably confined to purely peaceful purposes. The international pressure contributed to the June 2013 election as president of Iran of the relatively moderate Hassan Rouhani, who campaigned as an advocate of ending Iran’s international isolation.

Yves “JetMan” Rossy “When I grow up, I’m going to be pilots. With an S”. A profession of faith made as a child that was instilled in Yves Rossy the day he found himself on the branch of a tree unable to get down unaided. Today, he has become Jetman, the first man in the world to attach jet engines to a single wing and fly like Icarus. His story. Yves Rossy was born on the 27 of August 1959 in Neuchâtel (Switzerland). With his head in the clouds and his feet on the ground, Yves Rossy followed a technical apprenticeship and then graduated in engineering. An accomplished sportsman, his past and present pastimes include surfing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, skysurfing, parachuting, aerobatics, motorbike riding, rafting and hang-gliding, to name but a few. Flying under a jet wing is the culmination of a 30 year career interspersed with exploits and firsts. Fighter pilot Discovering the Mirage III supersonic fighter plane was certainly one of the high points of Yves Rossy’s career. He flew the aircraft for 17 years while at the same time piloting historic aircraft such as the Hunter and the Venom, one of England’s earliest jet fighters. In 1991 the idea arose to complete a multi-activity tour of Switzerland in a single day. On 3 July that year he began the day at the controls of a DC-9 and completed the challenge by riding a motorbike, snowboarding, skiing, mountaineering, paragliding, mountain biking, bungee-jumping, flying a helicopter, skydiving and white water rafting, followed by kayaking, driving a racing car, hanggliding, horse riding, running barefoot, water-skiing, wakeboarding and piloting a speed boat.
