The 3rd Annual Vatican Leadership Summit Answering the Call to Serve 16 - 22 March 2019, Vatican City About the 2019 Vatican Leadership Summit Introducing Harvard students to the philosophy of Servant Leadership through exploration of the Holy See’s work in communities around the world. Also, a chance to see spectacular historical sights and enjoy Italy in Spring! Our mission and hope is to enlighten and better prepare ourselves to act as global leaders and grow in service to others. The Holy See is uniquely positioned in the world, as both a state actor and a faith-based organization that transcends national boundaries, to address the burning issues of our time that require leadership. It has served as a source of inspiration and leadership to many people across geography and time. We believe we could learn from the Church’s work and would like to better understand the challenges it has encountered in these endeavors. As such, the trip will allow Harvard students to explore the Holy See’s work in a variety of areas. The agenda will be developed with the student group and proposed topics include: ● Climate Change as Moral Issue ● Church’s Commitment to Refugees and the Displaced ● Holy See as Mediator & Proponent of Peace in International Disputes ● Church’s Involvement in Ending Human Trafficking ● Compassionate and Wide-Reaching Healthcare ● Pope Francis’ Leadership and “Businessification” of the Church ● Church’s Financial and Business Organization ● Catholic School System ● Digitization and Future of the Church st ● Reform: How Does the Church Stay Relevant in the 21 C entury? ● Vatican-China Relations ● The Church in Africa Highlights of previous Summits include: ● Roundtable discussions with key stakeholders at the Vatican, including the Vatican Secretary of State and Vatican Bank ● St. Paul Parish Mass and Blessing ● Memorial Church Blessing at the Yard ● Dinner with U.S. Embassy officials ● Pope Francis Angelus (General Audience) ● Visit with Vatican Swiss Guards ● Opportunity to work on a pro-bono consulting project with the Vatican ● Private Vatican Museum Tour including Tour of the Sistine Chapel ● Tour and Lunch at the Pope’s Summer Residence (Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo) ● Rome’s many, many historic sites such as the Colosseum Logistics When: 16 – 22 March 2019; 23-24 March 2019 optional Where: Vatican City, Rome and possibly Tuscany We invite Harvard students of all beliefs, faiths and religions interested in the Summit to apply per the details below by October 31, 2018. Students are asked to pay a participation fee of $1,600 in full by November 30, 2018. The fee covers lodging, meals, and sightseeing activities of the participants but does not include the airfare or any out-of-pocket expenses that participants may incur during the trip. Please note that it is a personal responsibility of each participant to obtain travel health insurance and requisite visas. Participation will involve pre-summit preparatory sessions, panels and meetings with senior officials of Vatican City, the Italian corporate and non-profit sector, historic tours and visits to a less well known suburb of the Vatican, known as Rome!
