  • Artist Retreat Workshop
JAMES COE UPDATED 3/3/16 PAGE 1 Texart Oil Painting Workshop with James Coe Using Plein Air Landscapes to Improve Your Wildlife Paintings MATERIALS LIST 1. OIL PAINTS — any brand, artist’s grade preferred. RECOMMENDED BASIC COLORS: White (Titanium or Titanium-Zinc) Ultramarine blue Cadmium Yellow Pale, Light, or Lemon (shade varies with manufacturer: Gamblin or Williamsburg Cad. Yellow light are equivalent to Winsor Newton or Utrecht Cad. Yellow lemon) Yellow Ochre (or Mars Yellow) Burnt Sienna (or Transparent Red Oxide) Cadmium Red Light or Medium (shade varies with manufacturer), Permanent Crimson, Permanent Rose Deep, or Quinacridone Rose (all modern synthetic equivalents to Alizarin Crimson, which is no longer rated as light-fast) º ADDITIONAL OPTIONAL COLORS: Cadmium Yellow Deep or Orange (a warm yellow) Viridian (cool green), and Cobalt or Cerulean Blue (both cool blues; I sometimes use one or the other) º Other EARTH colors, such as Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna and Raw Umber can be convenient additions to the palette, individually. I prefer Burnt Sienna and Yellow Ochre as my only earths, and sometimes I omit the Ochre. Any of the earth hues can be mixed from the primary pigments on the palette listed above – but the genuine earths have other tactile qualities that make them useful, and are convenient. º Naples Yellow - I recently added this color back to my palette and appreciate its usefulness in mixing soft grays and greens. Historically, Naples was ground from the toxic compound, Lead Antimony. That formulation is no longer available. Today most brands of Naples Yellow are mixes of yellow ochre, cadmium or hansa yellow and white.

  • Art Materials That May Not Be Purchased for Use in Kindergarten
ART AND CRAFT MATERIALS THAT CANNOT BE PURCHASED FOR USE IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 6TH GRADE Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment – California Environmental Protection Agency October 2014 California Education Code Section 32064 prohibits the purchase of art or craft materials containing a toxic substance for use by students in kindergarten and grades 1-6. The law also requires the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) to develop a list of products that cannot be purchased for use by students in K-6. This list (attached) is intended to assist schools, school districts, and governing authorities of private schools in complying with the purchasing requirements. Purchasers must ensure that all art and craft materials to be purchased for use by students bear a statement of conformity to ASTM D-4236, as required by federal law. Items to be used by students in grades K-6 must not bear acute or chronic health hazard labels. Although not required by law, avoiding art materials that bear acute or chronic health hazard labels when purchasing for grades 7-12 is a good precautionary measure. Schools are encouraged to inventory existing art and craft supplies and remove materials bearing health hazard labels from K-6th grade classrooms. For further information, please see Art and Craft Materials in Schools: Guidelines for Purchasing and Safe Use, accompanying this list or available online (see below). Due to resource limitations, OEHHA compiled the attached list based on product evaluations conducted by other entities1 according to federal requirements. Any art and craft materials recalled in the past five years2 are also included (no such products are listed at this time), as are products available for sale that have been brought to OEHHA’s attention as bearing health hazard labels.

  • Design I: Sophomore Studio Supply List
ARCH 21111 DESIGN I: SOPHOMORE STUDIO UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE SUPPLY LIST The following is a list of supplies that will be used through the fall studio and throughout future studios in the School of Architecture as well, so while one needn’t spend more than necessary, it is a good idea to invest in quality supplies when possible. WHERE TO PURCHASE SUPPLIES Items can be purchased at most drafting or art supply retailers; and don’t forget to check if the store offers a student discount. The Notre Dame Bookstore carries some of the items, but it is advisable to purchase your supplies from other vendors as the Bookstore’s stock can be unpredictable or lacking entirely. Some recommended sources include: Online Dick Blick Art Materials www.dickblick.com Utrecht Art Supplies www.utrechtart.com Artist Crafstman Supply artistcraftsman.com On/Near Campus United Art & Education Mishawaka, IN Michael’s Mishawaka, IN Hobby Lobby Mishawaka, IN Please note that these resources are recommended because not all drafting and art supplies are created equal. Amazon and other retailers certainly carry supplies, but one must be certain that each thing is precisely the same item being sold—a professional tool and not a knock-off. If there are any questions about the necessity of a specific item or about the quality of a particular choice, please don’t hesitate to contact your instructor. Links to individual items have been included here to help students understand the items that are intended by this list. Please be sure to inquire about a student discount where you shop.
