Academic Year 2018-2019 COMMON ADMISSION TESTING PROGRAM (For students applying to 3rd and 4th grades in September 2018) Brunswick School, Sacred Heart Greenwich Greenwich Academy, Greenwich Country Day School King School, The Stanwich School Overview Many families in the Greenwich/Stamford area apply to more than one local independent school. Because all the schools in the program screen applicants using sections of the Educational Records Bureau, CTP 4, a common testing program eliminates multiple testing for the applicant and provides families greater flexibility in scheduling. Standardized testing is only one aspect of the admissions process. Consideration is also given to school records, school visits and family interviews. Observation of younger children and other special evaluations may also be required depending upon the school and grade level. Regardless of which school serves as the test center, parents may request test results to be sent to any independent school in the program. Scheduling Tests are offered 7 Saturdays between November 4, 2017 and January 20, 2018. We encourage applicants to take this required test as early as possible to provide make-up time in the event of unanticipated illness or a weather cancellation. Please check each school’s application deadlines, allowing 15 days for ERB to send test results to the schools. Description of Tests Applicants will be given sections of the Educational Records Bureau, CTP 4. These assessments include achievement tests in reading comprehension and mathematics. The tests are objective and multiple-choice in format. In addition, students will be assigned a writing sample on a given topic. Procedures Please arrive at the school where the test is being given between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Testing begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. No student will be admitted to the test after 8:45 a.m. No one may leave the classroom until the entire test is completed. Total testing time is approximately 2 hours. Rest periods are scheduled between tests. Applicants should bring a pleasure book to read in the event that some open time exists between sections of the tests. Each school provides a break and snack during the morning. Students are welcome to bring a special (nut–free) snack to eat, if desired, during the break. To register, please use the registration form on the attached page and return it to the school where the testing will take place. A registration fee of $75.00 must accompany the registration form. This co-ed team eventually split into girls and boys varsity programs in the mid -90's with both teams having consistent success in their respective leagues.     School Archives in Action: A Practiice-Based Research Approach SARAH A. BUCHANAN The Meadows School, Las Vegas, Nevada Abstract: School archives consist of documents, artifacts,, and ephemera such as artwork and uniforms which form the foundation for understanding and constructing an individual school's history annd broader educational memory. Successful school archives have implemented research recommendations which have established the archival value of preserving these matterials, and their utility in support of community identity and service-learning. This paper surveys the development of school archives within their innstitutions and reports on continuing professional development activities worldwide for school archivists. The concept of practice-based research is applied in order to identify archival programs and examine specific uses for the hiistorical materials found in school archives. Introduction While archival materials have been housed in schools for generations, their visibility has increased in recent years as scholarly cultural and historical research has shifted in visible ways from the study of bureaucratic and organizationaal records to tthe study of the daily lives and everyday activities of citizens. The primary sources for such cultural studies increasingly derive from local communities, schools, and family archives.1 Public and nonpublic schools in the United States have collected materials since their rapid establishment nationwide in the nineteenth century. When recognizing their founding through a centennial celebration or related anniversary, many school administrators today have chosen to devote renewed attention to their heritage by establishing and supporting an archival program. This practice-based research surveys the development of school archives and is contextualized by a school archives literature review and professsional analysis.
