We will begin with a return to First Avenue & 7th St Entry in Minneapolis this November 2021 to help them celebrate their (belated) 50th birthday. Though they've been eager to look back on their past releases these last few years, the Hold Steady have now shared two new songs ahead of four straight shows in New York this week. Both "Entitlement Crew" and "A Snake in the Shower" were recorded in Brooklyn earlier this month and can be heard in the player below. As they noted in a statement, the band "hope to play them at the shows, so we thought we'd share them in case you want to sing along." While the songs will hit streaming services next week, they're currently available for purchase through Bandcamp with all proceeds set to be donated to the K+L Guardian Foundation. The Hold Steady's four-night residency will see them take the stage at the Brooklyn Bowl from November 29 through December 2. The band's last full-length release came in 2014 with Teeth Dreams . THE HOLD STEADY’S NEW ALBUM OUT AUGUST 16. (New York, NY) The Hold Steady are releasing their new album, Thrashing Thru The Passion, via Frenchkiss Records on Friday, August 16. The Hold Steady’s seventh studio album is available now for pre-order. Fans can also receive access to exclusive album bundles, including such extras as limited edition clear vinyl, poster, lithograph and enamel pin set. All pre-orders will come with a free download of the new song, “Denver Haircut,” which is also available now at all DSPs. “’Denver Haircut’ is a story about a guy who has chance meet up that takes him to a few different locations before leaving him alone and cashless in a strange hotel room,” says the band’s lead singer Craig Finn. “Steve Selvidge (guitarist) brought in the music to this song and everyone felt it immediately, it was really fun to play. The story unfolded quickly too. When recording, we remarked that it sounded like it could kick off an album…and so here we are.” Thrashing Thru The Passion collects five new songs recorded this year alongside five acclaimed ones released digitally between November 2017 and March 2019. The album was recorded at The Isokon in Woodstock, NY with producer Josh Kaufman and engineer D. James Goodwin. Additional performers include Stuart Bogie, Dave Nelson, Jordan McLean and Michael Leonhart on horns and Annie Nero on backup vocals. "I’ve been saying for a few years now - since Franz came back- that this six piece lineup of The Hold Steady is the best band we’ve ever been,” says Finn. “The new songs recorded by this version of the band are super exciting to us. It’s been a very fun and creative period for The Hold Steady.” The Hold Steady will celebrate Thrashing Thru The Passion with “Constructive Summer 2019,” a series of live show weekends across the United States. These weekends take place in Seattle, WA’s The Crocodile (August 15-17), Chicago, IL’s Thalia Hall and Empty Bottle (August 22-24), Nashville, TN’s Basement East (September 5-7), Boston, MA’s The Sinclair (September 12-15), and the fourth annual “Massive Nights” event at NY’s Brooklyn Bowl (December 4-7). As in the case every year, there are some newer bands on the rise, veteran figures of the scene, and some bands where I don’t know how they made the ballot. The great thing about these polls is anyone can win. It’s not always the most deserving band or even the most popular band. It’s all about who can get out the most votes like anything else in America. Anyways here are our nominees for Breakthrough Band and don’t forget to vote at www.motifri.com. Gavage Gavage’s songs are reminiscence of 1970’s punk in the vein of The Adverts, early Damned, and Rocket From The Tombs. Loud guitars, vocals with a snarl, and they even recently augmented sound by adding a saxophone. Gavage play out regularly around town, including an appearance at last year’s Rocktucket Festival. Gavage are currently working on their debut release, which they’re recording at the home studio of another nominee, Jay Berndt’s.
