nspired by their new coach, Sydney United 58 Ihave their eyes on climbing the ladder with another big win when they host Sutherland Sharks on Saturday. Miro Valstelica has the Edensor Park based side firing on all cylinders once again as was shown in their 3-0 win against Sydney FC last round. Their opponents this week are in need of a win as Sutherland went down 2-1 to Wollongong in Round 15. The smarts of veteran striker Chris Payne helped the Reds to victory last week and the former A-League journeyman will play a vital role once again this week alongside the team’s maestro in Panny Nikas as well as Matty Sim. The Sharks will need former Wellington Phoenix stopper Jacob Tratt to be at his best to stop Payne and a resurgent United 58 attack. Sutherland are desperate for victory to stay in touching distance of a top five finish. It will be a close fought contest with plenty of intrigue for fans.

Sydney FC 0 – Sydney United 58 FC 3 at Lambert Park An inspired second half performance has helped Sydney United 58 to a 3-0 win against Sydney FC at Lambert Park on Saturday. After withstanding an impressive attacking onslaught from the home side in the opening 45 minutes, United 58 found their shooting boots to dominate the second stanza and claim all three competition points. Veteran striker Chris Payne opened the scoring in the 45th minute before a quality finish from Patrick Antelmi doubled the visitors lead with only seven minutes left on the clock. Payne wrapped up the result in the final moments in the game with a trademark goal from inside the edge of the penalty area to finish the match with a brace. The result cements United 58’s fourth position on the table, while Sydney FC remain at the bottom of the competition after 15 rounds.

Wollongong Wolves FC – Sutherland Sharks at JJ Kelly Park A last minute winner saw a determined Wollongong Wolves come from behind to defeat Sutherland Sharks 2-1 on a chilly Sunday afternoon at JJ Kelly Park. After a goalless first half, Adrian Vranic popped up to open the scoring for the Sharks with a poacher’s effort moments after the restart. Jordan Nikolovski, making his first start for the Wolves, levelled the scores on the hour mark with a magical lob from 30 yards before the experienced Nick Montgomery completed the turnaround with a powerful winner in added time to seal a hard earned three points for the hosts. The match was played in cold and windy conditions on the South Coast, with a win on the agenda for both sides as they sought to keep themselves in contention for finals football.

10 NPLNSW.COM.AU U20’S MATCH PREVIEW

ydney United 58’s season hangs in the Sbalance as the competition leaders Sutherland Sharks arrive at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday evening. The Reds were hammered 7-0 by Sydney FC last Saturday, a result that could prove to be a huge blow to United 58’s chances of a finals finish. As a result of the heavy defeat, United 58 are now six points behind fifth-placed Hakoah Sydney City East, and they can barely afford for that gap to extend with another defeat to the Sharks at home. United 58 will need to offer a big performance against the competition favourites and also be wary of a slightly wounded animal when the Sharks enter the fray in Edensor Park. A profligate Sutherland were edged 3-2 by Wollongong Wolves last weekend to cut their advantage over second-placed Sydney FC to just two points. With Sydney hitting their stride and Blacktown City lingering not too far behind and with a game in hand, the competition leaders might be starting to feel the pressure for the first time this season – and a victory to ease concerns will be of paramount importance.
