Safe And Sound Musicians: Sully Erna: lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards, drums, percussion, Tony Rombola: lead guitar, backing vocals Robbie Merrill: bass, Shannon Larkin: drums, percussion Godsmack may never garner the kind of praise that's bestowed upon its obvious influences (Metallica, Alice in Chains, Tool), but the hard-working Boston quartet has managed to stay at the top of the alternative metal heap for nearly eight years. IV, produced by frontman Sully Erna, doesn't stray too far from the formula, relying on big midtempo brooders and heavy, drop-D riffs to work in the usual themes of loneliness, betrayal, and the overuse of the word "bleeding." For the most part it's cliché done well -- the record opens with an audio collage of children saying their prayers before bed -- and the band can turn it up to 11 with the best of them. Stadium-sized cuts like "Speak," "Enemy," and "Temptation" are sure to please the masses -- 1 / 2 Godsmack – Godsmack IV (2006) Written by bluesever Tuesday, 12 April 2011 19:06 - Last Updated Wednesday, 21 March 2018 22:06 they even bring out the vocoder for "No Rest for the Wicked" -- and fans brought into the fold with 2004's acoustic Other Side EP will eat up the pensive, mandolin-led "Hallow," but there's little growth to be found, resulting in a textbook-executed slice of commercial aggression.

  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Whitaker Center Welcomes Sully Erna This
Media Contact: Ashlee Hurley Director of Marketing and Sales 717-724-3879 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Whitaker Center Welcomes Sully Erna This Fall Singer, Songwriter, and Multi-Instrumentalist Plays Intimate Acoustic Performance Harrisburg, PA- Whitaker Center, in association with SLP Concerts, announces musician Sully Erna at Sunoco Performance Theater on Tuesday, November 15 at 8:00 pm. The singer, songwriter and multi- instrumentalist is launching his ‘Hometown Tour’ in celebration of the release of his new solo album Hometown Life, due out Friday, September 30 via BMG. Only this time, Erna plans on stripping it down for an intimate acoustic evening with guitar-player and band member Tim Theriault. Composed by Erna on piano and acoustic guitar and produced in his New England-based studio, the 10 songs on Hometown Life are a powerful mix of blues, country and adult contemporary, all layered with orchestral overtones offering another stylistic left-hand turn from his first solo album Avalon as well as the music he creates as front man for the multi-platinum rock band Godsmack. Case in point, the powerful and emotional first single "Different Kind Of Tears" written with songwriter/producer Zac Maloy (Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood). A personal, confessional, raw work, Hometown Life offers a wide-ranging glimpse of Erna’s eclectic musical tastes--from singer-songwriter Billy Joel/Bruce Springsteen, to the bossa nova touch of “Take All of Me,” to the breezy island feel of “Your Own Drum,” the finger-snapping Motown bass lines of the bluesy “Turn It Up,” the country flavors of “Different Kind of Tears” and the wide-screen canvas of mini- symphonies such as “Blue Skies” and “Forever My Infinity.” All of them are tied together with Erna’s unflinching view of the emotional roller-coaster of his life, drawing us into a very intimate space.

By the same token, we tear down the relics of the past in order to make way for the innovations of the future. As every rebirth requires reinvention, GODSMACK— Sully Erna [vocals, guitar], Tony Rombola [guitar], Robbie Merrill [bass], and Shannon Larkin [drums]–continue a similar cycle on their seventh full-length and debut for BMG, When Legends Rise. The multiplatinum four-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated Boston bastion of hard rock raises its voice louder than ever on their first album in four years. “You’ve got to burn it down to build it up,” affirms Erna. “When Legends Rise is a metaphor. Life can get challenging at times. It can knock you onto the ground. However, if you reach inside of yourself, find that inner strength, and rise up again, you’ll flourish. Over the past few years, I went through a really tough time, but I learned this firsthand. Coming out on the other side, we’re going to do this bigger and better than we ever have. We’re ready to work.” Truth is, the members of GODSMACK have never been afraid to put in the work… Like the city they call home, these musicians speak louder, fight harder, and grow stronger each day. Through an uncompromising attitude and uncanny knack for a hummable hook, they quietly became one of modern rock’s most reliable and resonant institutions.

  • November 2020 Newsletter
Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, & Mexico November 2020 Region 6 Updates from Director Jeff Davis I hope many of you were able to participate in the virtual VenueConnect a couple weeks ago. While I missed seeing many of you in person in the traditional format, it was good sharing ideas and learning from each other as we all work to navigate to the current state of our industry. I would like to take a few minutes to share with you some of the work your Region 6 Leadership has before us. We have had several people reach out regarding the new State/Country representative positions. In the coming weeks, the region officers will be reviewing the interest and adding these roles to help us better connect with all of you, our membership. As many of you know, we canceled our Region 6 Conference back in April due to the pandemic. Our officers are looking at the feedback from the virtual VenueConnect conference and exploring options for a potential 2021 conference. As part of our planning process, we’ll be reaching out to get your feedback. Watch for additional communications on this. As a result of the pandemic, we’ve had a change in a couple of our officer positions. Meredith Imes was offered a new role at Texas Tech with their emergency management operations working on the University’s COVID response. We’re certainly excited for her in this new role. With her departure from our region leadership, Nick Zazal is stepping up to fill the Assistant Director role for Region 6.

(Photo by Jeff Hahne/Getty Images) Godsmack frontman Sully Erna is talking about current tour mates Shinedown when he says it’s hard to change things up after some success. He could just as easily be talking about his own band though. The Massachusetts band has recently released its seventh album, When Legends Rise, in their 23-year history. The album is the sixth top 10 in a row for the hard rock heroes. So why should Godsmack, as Erna says, “Burn it down to the ground and rebuild it in a much different way”? It starts with the epic 10-minute video for the track “Bulletproof,” a hilarious clip starring Erna and his "cousin" Salvatore Pasquale. There's a DIY aspect in the form of the band’s actual manager Paul Geary, who plays the manager in the clip, and also from band management, classic video vixen, Lauren Albanese, who, in the '80s, would have been the dream girl for every hard rock music video. For Erna, the band is about having fun these days. It does not mean, by any stretch, they have lost their edge as he explains.

System Of A Down and Sacramento natives Deftones headlined the 7th annual festival, joined by Alice In Chains, Incubus, Godsmack, Shinedown, 311, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators, At The Drive In, Seether and many more. Even with expanded capacity for this year’s festival, weekend passes for Monster Energy Aftershock were sold out months in advance. The festival wrapped up with an unforgettable performance from System Of A Down, who made their Monster Energy Aftershock debut with one of their first appearances in the States in three years, as the band celebrates the 20th anniversary of their landmark self-titled first album. Saturday night was capped off by local favorites Deftones, who headlined the festival for the first time (after appearing previously in 2012 and 2015), nearly seven years since their last headlining hometown performance. On Saturday afternoon, Monster Energy Aftershock performers and special guests also came together to pay tribute to the late Vinnie Paul, who had been scheduled to play Aftershock with his band Hellyeah before his unexpected passing in June. Hosted and curated by SiriusXM’s Jose Mangin, and anchored by Hellyeah’s Kyle Sanders on bass and KYNG’s Pepe Clarke playing Vinnie Paul’s own Hellyeah drum kit, the tribute featured a revolving cast of guitarists and vocalists playing songs from Damageplan and Pantera.
