    IMPACT: International Journal of Research in Humanities, Arts and Literature (IMPACT: IJRHAL) ISSN (P): 2347-4564; ISSN (E): 2321-8878 Vol. 7, Issue 5, May 2019, 299-304 © Impact Journals POPULAR SHADES OF ‘COLOURISM’: AN ANALYSIS OF HUMOUR AND BODY POLITICSIN KERALA’S VISUAL CULTURE Liju Jacob Kuriakose Research Scholar, Department of English, NIT Puducherry, Karaikal, Tamil Nadu, India Received: 23 May 2019 Accepted: 24 May 2019 Published: 25 May 2019 ABSTRACT Indian cinema in general and Malayalam cinema in specific, with its unique beginnings in the realistic idealism of the black-and-white eraand its gradual shift in the 80’s to the imaginary male-centric spaces, is well critiqued upon as a shedding of social responsibility. Contemporary Malayalam cinema however, is praised for its‘new generation cinema’ wave, which ha sapparently shed both its fetish over rustic settings, anti-political undertones and patriarchal violence, to embrace an urban, post-political life of the supposed ‘new generation’ Malayalees. Such cinemas however, continue remain within the monochrome panorama of the old generation which refused to acknowledge the social other and continued to position the dark-skinned, short statured, plump bodies as a site of violence and humour where the physical body plays a part in the politics of subaltern subjugation. The indirect implication of course being that such bodies are not suited for a civil society, who remain incongruent with the realities of the modern spaces by either being violent and antagonistic or comic and out of place. The paper aims to broadly define and delineate the practices of casteism and visual untouchability being practiced in Malayalam visual media.

SARATE2* 1BIRBAL SAHNI INSTITUTE OF PALAEOSCIENCES, 53 UNIVERSITY ROAD, LUCKNOW-226007 2PLOT NO. 27, 3rd BUS STOP, GOPAL NAGAR, NAGPUR-440022 *Corresponding author e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT Palynofloral and palynofacies investigations have been carried out in borehole NP-74 from a Nand–Besur Block of the Nagpur District, Bandar Coalfield, Wardha Basin, Maharashtra. Palynofloral qualitative and quantitative analysis has revealed two distinct palynoassemblages I and II. The abundance of Scheuringipollenites spp. (40-51%) and sub dominance of Parasaccites spp. (25-30%) characterizes Palynoassemblage-I (277-283m). The dominance of Scheuringipollenites spp. (30-78%) along with Faunipollenites spp., Striatopodocarpites spp. and taeniates (13-28%) demarcates Palynoassemblage-II (102.5-271m). Palynoassemblage-I and II show its resemblance to the upper Karharbari and lower Barakar palynoflora of the early Permian age, respectively. On the basis of the recovered palynoflora, Artinskian age is assigned to these palynoassemblages (I and II). Four genera of megaspores have also been recovered at a depth of 202 m. By the palynofacies investigations, five distinct Palynofacies Association (A-E) has been identified. Palynofacies Association A is demarked by the predominance of the spore-pollen; Palynofacies Association B is characterized by the dominance of structured terrestrial; Palynofacies Association C is dominated by charcoal; Palynofacies Association D is distinguished by the dominance of degraded organic matter and Palynofacies Association E is marked by the predominance of amorphous organic matter.

Palynoassemblage – A abundantly occurrence of Scheuringipollenites along with other common taxa like Parasaccites, Ibisporites , Primuspollenites, Sulcatisporites, Rhizomaspora, Densipollenites and Corisaccites and Palynoassemblage – B dominated by Scheuringipollenites along with sub dominance of Faunipollenites, Striatopodocarpites , Parasaccites, Striatites, Tiwariasporis, Rhizomaspora, Verticipollenites , Platysaccus, Primuspollenites, Lunatisporites , Latosporites, Ibisporites and Distriatites. The above demarcated palynoassemblages are applied to correlate with other horizons of Lower Gondwana deposits of India and a lso to fix the relative age for the sediments under investigation. Presently based o n Gondwana floral remains like mega and micro fossil evidences can be applied to divide in to Lower Gondwana and Upper Gondwana sometimes Middle Gondwana with remains of Dicardium floral (mixed characters of both Monocot and Dicots) remains. Godavari Vall ey coalfield is a store house for non coking coal varity in Southern India.
